Automated Ordering Machines are now being used at Pecos Bill in the Magic Kingdom. You can place your order for any item on the menu using these machines if you are not using cash (i.e., Credit Card, Room Charge, Disney Dining Plan, and Disney Gift Cards/Disney Dining Cards). The machines cannot handle special orders, although with Pecos Bill's extensive topping bar, there should be less need for special orders here than other counter service restaurants.

Has anyone had any experience with these yet?

Haven’t tried it but it goes under another service that i wont be able to get to work correctly.....it will be joining the list of self checkout at the grocery, check in at the airport and automated movie tickets....

For some reason I’m not automated friendly

I saw this last week too. We didn't use it because the lines were short when we were there. I remember them testing this back in 1995 at Pecos Bills also. We used it then and it was easy.

They have an Automated Ordering system at Taste Pilots Grill in California at DCA, a CS restaurant. I have used it a couple times there and it seems to work OK - not too difficult to use. Those could handle some special orders (I could order no mayo on grilled chicken sandwich). Of course, being a programmer I like techie things.

Let's all take a moment to pray that they are NOT like the "self check-outs" at the grocery store! :scared1:

The best strategy for defeating these things is to steadfastly refuse to use them. Either that, or use them but purposely do something that requires outside intervention. Once they see that these machines aren't a substitute for a real live person helping the customer then they will go away.

I like them. I find that a lot of people are afraid to use them and that makes their line shorter.

Why would we want them to fail? At least maybe they will be able to speak clearly enough so we can understand what they're saying! And I believe they also have a display of the order so we can confirm it. Now we won't have to try to understand someone who doesn't try to speak understandably. Of course I also like the automated check outs in grocery stores!

Like one of the previous posters, I have used these at DCA and found them very easy to use. No lines and things seemed to move pretty smooth. I wouldn't mind seeing theses in a few other places as well. I have no reason to see them fail. If it makes things faster and more efficent, why would I want it any other way. I don't need a "real live person" to give me customer service. If my needs are being met, then Im happy.

We had them for a while at Taste Pilot's Grill at DCA, they took them out because they slowed things down WAY too much. But I find it interesting that the newer machines can't handle special orders when they had upgraded ours to handle them because that was the #1 complaint about them. Of course ours also handled cash and coin, but not Disney Dollars.

Used them last week. Found them quick and easy to use and much quicker than waiting for other lines. Was able to order 2 adult CS and 2 child CS all with different combinations with no difficulty using DDP. As long as the option of ordering from a CM is not removed completely (There are always times when personal assistance will be required) then I am all in favour of this system being expanded.

1/2 computer terminals, 1/2 CMs...kinda reminds me of airport check-in. I'm heading back to WDW for a long weekend next week and am going to try 'em out. Do they hand out pagers like they do at Capt. Cook's to tell you when your food is ready or do you simply key in your order and proceed to the counter?

Just proceed to counter in normal way and the CMs will be already getting your order together. Hand in reciept givien by machine and away you go.

I too had tried this last year at Taste Pilots in California Adventure and thought it was a great idea. It doesn't forget to upsell items, ask if you'd like anything else, etc, etc. Far more efficient than a human, actually.

For years I have been wishing for the same thing at chain restarants. I much rather order what I want from the table on a push button screen than wait (and wait) for a server to come around.

I love the self-check outs. I can see exactly how much each item rings up for and I can stop if I need to. SO I would love the ordering machines! Not for everyone I am sure, but for a simple order, works for me!

They have machines like this when you order food at WaWa, except you don't pay at them. They handle custom orders just fine, I'm shocked Disney couldn't get something more efficient, since well, they're Disney!

I like the idea.

The deli dept has something similar at my grocery store.

I was going to mention this too, however, the machines are now gone. We were just there last week (and last night :goodvibes ) and they've removed the machines. Don't know if it's permanent, or not. :confused3
