So I have read that you don't want to use regular pens for autographs because the characters can't hold them very well. Someone suggested to use the big fat sharpie, but doesn't the marker bleed onto the other side of the page?
I take a pake of the washable markers, either flip top or twistable. This way you don't lose the top, your child can pick which color to take each day, and if it gets on their clothes as they are waiting it will come out.
I have use the Ultra Fine Retractable Sharpie and they worked great! The characters seemed to appreciate the fact that it was retractable and it was a bonus for us too, since there was no cap to mess with. Have fun!!
We used the retractable sharpie. Worked well, didn't bleed, but make sure you had it to the character and take it from them when done if you have small children. My 4 yr old niece had marker all over her shirt.
We used the broad point chisel shaped fat markers. It bled through the back side of the page, but not onto the next page. I liked having a variety of colors. The fun part of autographs for me were the silly antics some of the characters did --- goofy signed the book behind his head.... Chip signed both his name and Dale's and put "STINKS" with an arrow pointed to Dale's name.... and then Chip and Dale started fussing with each other about it and Chip was laughing......

I found a sharpie four-pack that comes on a key ring on sale for like $1.50. I like this idea and the price, but the sharpies are about 1/2 the length of regular thin sharpies. Is this a big no-no? I'm a little worried about whether the characters like Mickey will be able to hold them?
There were lots of people using regular pens when we were there in September. We went the retractable Sharpie route and had no issues with ink bleeds. I guess this would largely depend on the thickness of the paper in the book you're going to be using.
We had a larger pad that we used and the characters loved it, many of them made gestures about the size of the book and then clapped their hands. It has to be challenging writing the bigger names in the small authograph books!

I agree with all cause i was at the soft opening to DWD and pluto had a hard time holding a regular pen . And i felt bad cause i have the long retractable sharpies at home , and i think those are the best for the charecters
We use the fat, retractable, permanent markers. The sharpies work well but do bleed through unless you use heavier cards or pages. I have had pretty good luck with the store brand/generic ones at Wal-Mart. They come in lots of colors and the characters don't have any trouble holding them, even with big gloves on. The fact that they are retractable means that I don't have to keep track of caps.
We picked up fat pens at Books a Million (our local bookstore chain) for $1. We got Cinderella, Belle, and Tink pens (1 of each of the characters) that are fatter than the learning pencils (what we used to call kindergarten pencils). They were so inexpensive that getting 3 different ones was still OK budget-wise.
