Im not sure if my son will really understand the whole collecting autograph thing but I think it would be cute for him to look at later with the photos we take.

I know you can buy autograph books but i think id rather make one. We dont have much time so most of it will be done when we return like a scrap book with his photos and the signatures.

Im not sure exactly how to do the actual signing though. Do you take something that has page protectors and take the pages out to be signed? Do you take a bound book?

Ive seen pics of kids with the characters signing and the pages look like they are in the book, yet that wouldnt work if there were page protectors. Do you take them out and set them on the protector so it looks like they are actually signing the book in the photo?

What is the best paper to use? I was thinking regular scrapbook cardstock and a sharpie or a scrapbook marker. What do you use?

Any other tips?? (we leave Saturday so I need tips FAST)
TIA
Erin

I saw some great ideas on the Creative DISigns board and used them to make mine. I bought an Artists Sketch Book (5X7) at Wal Mart for $5 and then used some Disney Scrapbooking stickers to decorate it with. I can tear the sheets out afterwards and match them with pictures of the boys and the characters. It was cheap and easy and cute - perfect for a preschool who may not "get it" :)

you can also check over at the Creative DISign board, a number of people DISign autograph pages, many you can have printed at any 1 hour photo place as a 4x6 image then take it to a place like office max, or kinko's or insty prints and have them bound together as a book for around $3 or $4 then after your trip you can take the pages off and use them in your scrap book.

thanks for the help. I think Im just going to find a sketch book or a pad of cardstock and use that.

I got a sketchbook on clearance at B&N with the perferated pages. My plan is to have the characters sign in there then when I get home I can tear the pages out and put them in DD's scrapbook with the pictures we take.

I actually just made 2 books one for DD2 and DS1. I took lightweight cardboard for the back, white cardstock for the pages for DSs and patterned cardstock for DDs, then a heavier weight piece of cardstock or something pretty for the covers. I used scrapbook letter stickers to put their names disney 2009 autographs. I then took a little hole punch and punched up one side like a spiral notebook (same spacing) unwound the binding from a old notebook, and then rolled it back in. With kid interuptions it only took me about 2 hours to do both. MAybe a project for the drive to WDW... I just have to pick up disney stickers for the covers and a sticker border for DS since his is more plain. Will try and post pics of them when they are complete.

I dont' have any hints for making one BUT someone on here suggested getting characters to sign a favorite disney story book. I found a great board book for my 2 year old. It has 5 pages in it each one for a magnetic princess so there is a lot of empty space just perfect for an autograph!
My older daughter is going to get a photo mat board signed for a special photo. Another idea from a DISer here!

I have gotten great ideas from the Creative DISigns board and have made at least a dozen autograph books over teh past 2 years, for my kids, family & friends - all with great feedback from the CMs & characters.

One piece of advice - the retractable Sharpie pens are THE BEST for autographs. No cap to lose & they are easy for the characters in costume to write with.

Have fun!

And BTW - your pre-schooler just may get it more than you think. DS was frightened last year at nearly 2, but this past July at nearly 3 was ALL ABOUT meeting as many characters as he could. he was more patient in line for characters than he was for rides.

The best thing to do is go to an arts and crafts store and get a small drawing notebook. This way there are no lines. You will be able to keep the signatures nice and there will be a hard surface for them to write on. After you get home, you can carefully remove each one and trim the edges and add them to you scrap book. I do this for sporting events!

I went to Meijer and bought a 4x6 artist sketch book and then covered it with scrapbook paper. I didn't go to a crazy extent as like you, I had a preschooler and wasn't quite sure how he'd react. But I did know that I intended to pull the autographs out and put them in the scrapbook from our trip (along with pictures of course!).

The idea went over like gangbusters! He got over 20 autographs and was proud that he got to carry around his own book (cleverly covered by a ZIPLOC BAG!!) and it wasn't massive. I let him pick out his own fat pen too. It was nice b/c it had a clip on the top so we could keep it attached to the book and not loose it.

Here is a picture of the two that I have done. The one on the right was DSs from our family trip and the one on the left is one that I made for Dneph (for next week), using DSs as my guide. I used mat board and cardstock for his and used a binding I found at Hobby Lobby.

Now the boys have books that are identical in size and shape AND they can easily tell them apart.

Good luck!
