Hi Fellow canadians,
It's official. We have already booked a condo back in september for our August 2010 trip. We were debating driving down to save money, since flying and renting a car is expensive. We finally decided and booked for the auto train both ways leaving Lorton, virginia all the way to sanford. We reserved coach since it is less expensive. It comes up to 848.00 Us for both ways for 2 adults a 16 year old and a 10 year old. We used our CAA discount.
I am releived that our transportation is solved. Next thing to do on our list is to book a hotel near Lorton and buy our disney and universal tickets.:rotfl:

We do the Auto Train when we go to Disney, I don't fly and it beats driving the whole way. You get to Florida rested and ready to go, 39 mile ride to Disney (depending on which resort you are at). If you are traveling on a weekend you might get there a hour or more early, since the rail traffic is light on weekends.

Kazzy1548 ... I'd love to hear more about this, like where do you get on the train and perhaps a post trip report.

I could see my family doing this when my youngest kids get a little older.

Thanks
Ted

Hi Ted in Halifax,

We take the train in Lorton, Virginia. The train will bring us and our car to Sandford, florida. I will try to post a report when we get back...

we've been looking into this too - it's almost 3 times the price to go down during the christmas week as it is to come back in january so we may drive the full route but take the train on the way back.

it's far more than driving but it will only take a full day of driving for us to get from Lorton to Toronto instead of 2.5 days of driving and stopping since we don't drive straight through.

our problem is that dh works for hilton and gets all american hilton family (includes double tree and embassy suites for $30USD a night - so it's a tough choice for us.

relaxing trip over night or save money.

i did hear that as little as 5 or 6 years ago it was very smokey - can anyone confirm or deny this???
