auto train with 2 yr old...

Our last auto train trip my younger kids were turning 2 and 3 during the vacation. Worked out fine. I did put my than almost 2yo down as 2 to get him a seat. Bring snacks for toys to keep them occupied. I also brought my own half gallon of milk since they were still taking bottles.

We are returning for our 6th trip on the Autotrain this Aug. We have traveled twice w/ 2yr olds. It was easy to do. We took the DVD player w/ us. By the time u broad the train it is 4pm. Dinner seating is 5 or 7. You can ask for the earlier seating. We once sat at a 9pm seating and the staff was upset w/ us bc we made the kids wait to eat. It was our first trip and didn't know. Now we know to get an earlier seating. Once dinner is over u can sit in the lounge car and watch the scenery(thou it is dark!) Lights are out in coach around 9pm. My little ones had no problem sleeping. But I have to admit I didn't sleep that great this last trip on the way home bc DS2 was a wiggle worm. I kept worrying he would fall off the seat. We usually awake by 630am. See where we are- if we are ahead of schedule we grab breakfast and get ready to get off. We are usually in Sanford by 8-830 am.

We have traveled in Coach and sleepers. I prefer sleepers when they are little bc they and I sleep much better. If u go remember to bring a pillow and a fleece type blanket from home to make sleeping better. We also pack snacks and juice packs for the trip. Usually we can grab some fruit/bananas in the lounge too.

If u have any ?'s I'd be happy to help.

When my kid was 2 years we travel alot an love to journey as much as we can. And I don't remember how much we travel between that period.
My wife had really great sense regarding how to take care of child while traveling. Let me share some of her ideas take some toys along with you. Take toys that he/she likes most. One toy should be such that kid can put it in his/her mouth because they love to do so becuase of their teeth. Take some water diapers and food for him/her.

i took my DD - 3 on the autotrain last june. it was just the two of us and b/c of that, I purposely booked a sleeper car - this way, if she was sleeping in the night and i had to use the restroom, i didnt have to worry about her being alone. it was very convenient. my DD and I loved it and want to do it again...only problem is that i can't find a decent price!

thank you all for the great info. Right now the price is on line with airfare AND we would have our car instead of renting one so we would be ahead. I know we don't HAVE to rent a car, but staying in a DVC unit and having a 2 yr old means we will be doing some grocery shopping. DH also prefers to be able to drive to the ESPN for his "escape" from women and children (alas, he is the only male in the family besides the 2 yr old):rotfl2:

When My brother was two years old. We have gone for the long journey. I was remember that my parents was took good care for him. They was took a large blanket and lot of toys for him. So He was spent lot of time in playing after tired He was go for sleeping. So my parent was also took rest. It was best journey for me.

We did this many years ago when my DD#1 was about 18 months old. We went coach on the way down but got a car on the way back. I didn't sleep much either way. She was fine but she was a very easy going baby. My current model- a 2008 DD#3- is not so easy going! She is a runner and likes to go, go, go so we are driving!

Journey with kid is hard duty. when you travel by the train then you could carry the snacks, water and milk. You also carry the some toys and chocolates. You have also required to give a snacks as a food the reason is that sometimes kid has no capacity to take the heavy food otherwise kid can vomiting it. So, be careful about that.
