Auto train--keeping meds cold

I asked for and got some good advice for keeping meds cold while flying awhile back. Now, we're probably taking the auto train, and because we have to drive several hours before we even get on the train, we're looking at keeping meds cold for over 24 hours. We can't use a FRIO wallet, as it isn't cold enough. One med has to be kept at 39-46 F. Last year we were able to take DD off the medication for our trip. This year, that's not an option. Any suggestions?

I have not ridden the auto train, but other people who have mentioned a dining car. You should be able to get ice from there if you can't bring I don with you.
You would need to be careful because medication can freeze if kept on ice.

Here's a nice cooler meant to keep medications at refrigerator temperature (colder than a Frio pac).

It's expensive, but if you scroll down the page farther, they have some set ups they tried with different items to keep medication cold.

You might also want to talk to the pharmacist to check how 'picky' your medication is as far as temperature. It could be that for long term storage, you need to stay in the refrigerator range, but the duration of your trin trip would be OK.

Thanks Sue, that looks great! I will definitely check with my pharmacist to see if we have some flexibility with the temperatures.
