In the past I have taken our kids out of school and visited WDW at the lowest times of the year (after Thanksgiving, but before Christmas, and the second week of January). We've gotten a GAC and generally been able to deal with the crowds and yes there are still crowds.

I can't take the kids out of school anymore for many reasons (one of which is I got a letter threatening to imprision and/or fine me last time. Thanks school board.) So my next trip is scheduled for the end of the next school year, May/June of 2008. I've booked us for 12 days, the longest trip yet.

How bad will the crowds be? Ds also has epilepsy that can be aggrivated by heat. I'm concerned that I made a mistake booking this trip, but really can't come up with a better time to take a long trip that doesn't interfere with school.

Comments?

Do your kids have school breaks during the year? We get 1 week in February and another in April. Next year we will be going the 3rd week of April which falls into 'regular' season rates. I don't think the crowds would be any worse than right after school gets out and it won't be so hot. My DS has autism and does not deal with heat well at all. So we are now pretty much confined to going to disney those 2 weeks or maybe taking him out one extra day around labor day or another 3 day weekend.

We have gone TWICE in Late April/May. My DD also has intractible epilepsy and on 5 AED's, in addtion to her other medical issues (Braintumor, GDD ..) . This time of year was not too bad for us. We just pumped her full of water, made sure we rested in shaded areas and did not stand in direct sun at mid-day. She has a reduced ability to sweat so we made double sure to keep her cool. The first trip we took in 2002 during a HEAT wave (by Florida Standards) it was so hot the park was empty in the afternoons.. but we managed OK with a good plan and lot's of water. This time we Go the first week In August so I hope it goes just as well. Even with our GAC the going can be very rough depending on her stability at the moment. She recently just came off a prolonged status event which she is often prone to so we really watch our hydration and fatique will at the Parks.

We don't have the mid-winter break that the Northeast has, but we do have a Spring Break. My sister, the Disney fanatic told me that Spring Break is the second busiest time of year, so we thought that the last week of May into the first week of June would be better.

If your spring break is in March then your probably right it will be crowded but if it's in April you might want to consider that option
