There appear to be many different ways to get out to the Aulani from the airport, but I'm curious which is the best...

I'm wondering this myself. On Aulani's website, as I'm sure you've read, it says they partner with Alamo for car rentals. We are planning a trip next summer and will probably rent a car, but probably from Enterprise through my husband's corporate account. Too bad Aulani doesn't have a Magical Express to the resort! Maybe in the future...

I leave for AUlani in 9 day and am still trying to figure this out. In most threads I have seem , the general consensus is to rent a car but we are not DVC members and only planning to rent a car for a day to tour so the $35 parking fees aren't worth it to us.

Right now in my research it seems to the best option depends on the amount of people in your party. If you are 3 and under, a shuttle seems to be the way to go. Aulani recommends Speedishuttle. I have seen other companies and all their rates seem to be around the same unless I am missing something. If you are a family of 4 like us, a Taxi with a fixed rate seems to be the best bet. the one recommended both by AUlani and on here is Charley's Taxi which has a one way flat rate of $55. I saw another one today "Star taxi" that charge $50. Has anyone used them? I am pretty sure we will just go with Charley due to the recommendations.

I can't help with families larger than 4 though. Sorry. this is just from my research. :)

I just searched for this yesterday and ran across an old post that mentions Charley's Taxi is a flat rate of $55 from the airport to Aulani.

I checked rates just to rent an Alamo car for one day and drop off at Aulani but they technically charge you for 2 days for one 24 hour period. It was $110with a discount.

I was hoping to use the car to then go get groceries but the post suggested using Charley's taxi and just taking a taxi from the hotel ($10 flat each way to Target or Costco between 10am-5pm) and calling them when you are ready to go. I believe that is the route we will go.

We just got back from Hawaii this evening. We rented cars on both islands we visited but we're DVC so the parking fees at Aulani weren't a concern for us (tho we had to pay on Maui at our resort there). I saw a lot of "Speedi Shuttle" vans around Oahu (both at Aulani and in Waikiki) so you might want to check on their rates too. We only had a couple of days where we didn't use the car and appreciated the convenience of being able to run to Target or whatever and to do our own excursions.

We were VERY PLEASED with Speedy. We made reservation WELL in advance, they were VERY PROMPT, and the van was FULL leaving Aulani when our son took back it to Honolulu airport. The driver was a "younger guy" and asked our son if he wanted to ride up front with him and they talked sports, etc..
His flight was 8:10PM in the evening and the pick up time was 5:15PM from Aulani right outside front entrance! Very REASONABLE imo...Think something like $15 if I can remember! Yes, heard the same thing...If party of 4 or more, do Charlies Taxi! I would go with Aulani's recommendation on a taxi service...Seems "TRIED AND TRUE"!

Best of Luck!:dance3:

We are a family of 5 so we are planning on renting a car. Right now we have a car reserved through Costco for $270 for a full sized car for 11 days. I don't think that is too bad of a rate, since we will be there over Christmas.

We LOVED the freedom of having a car!:thumbsup2 Enjoy!:cool1:

PACK LIGHT!! We just got back last night and had "full size" cars and used a Town Car service to / from our home airport and even tho we only checked 1 bag each & brought 1 carry-on each (just 3 ppl) none of the trunks on the cars were big enough to hold everything!! Our choices on each island included Chevy Impala's, Ford Fusions & Nissan Altima's. In the Town Car we had to put one carry-on in the pax seat and hold our "personal under-the-seat" items and in the rental cars we pretty much had to use half the back seat for a couple of things. We use large 28-30" duffles for our checked bags. OH, and be sure to bring a luggage scale!! On the way to CA I think my scale was right and the bags weighed exactly what I thought they would. But on the way home I weighed all the bags as I packed them and thought I had room to spare but the airlines scale read higher at the counter. We had one bag that came in at exactly 50 Lbs, one hit 49.5 and one was 47 Lbs!!! This was a couple of pounds more on each bag than what I THOUGHT they would be.

OH and BTW that IS a pretty good rate for your car, esp. for the holidays. We also rented thru Costco - we paid $141 on Oahu for 7 days and $115 on Maui for 4 days which came to $256. :thumbsup2

Just a quick question regarding renting a car through Costco. I'm assuming you need to be a Costco member?

I was thinking the same thing as Annie....Are you going to be able to fit all the luggage in that car???? I don't think so.

We used Speedi Shuttle, and it was very easy and convenient. We did not rent a car our entire stay (just one day to go around the island). We did a few excursions Aulani offered and mainly enjoyed the resort. We paid cash so we did not want to incur parking fees. The Alamo desk at Aulani was very easy to use. I found the best rate from Costco for a minivan (I needed two since there were 13 of us). The cost was $92 each per day...but everywhere else charged over $200.

We must be light packers since we always have a full sized car when traveling and have never had an issue with luggage. The car we will take to the airport is classified as a mid-sizded car.

Then again we did a ton of backpacking in Europe pre kids so we aren't ones to carry a lot of excess.

ETA: It probably helps that our bigger car is a Ford Fusion. Generally, on a 10-20 day trip we pack either 2- 24 inch checked suitcases or 3- 20 inch suitcases and 3 backpacks and one purse.

Charley's Taxi can hold up to 7 (certain vans) with a good amount of luggage.
