Aulani ~ top "outings" to do with children

We are here now. I highlight for my 11 and 15 year olds was surfing with Hawaiian Fire. If you will have a car it's much cheaper to book directly through them and not with Disney. We did the Paradise Cove Luau last night. Food was just ok but the show was really fun. A
How were the activities for the teen? We are headed back in July and my kids are older now. My daughter is super excited to be able to go to Painted Sky. My son will be 10 and I'm hoping Uncles will still be on his list. Thanks.

I am loving this thread. Even tho we don't have children there are so many good hints about things to do/ how to get around. Thanks, all!

Is there a thread for Aulani w/out kids, does that make a difference in the activities?

Pixie Dust- the first time we went to Aulani it was without our kids (in August 2012) and we did a lot of the same activities listed on this thread that are do able with kids. I think that touring plans can differ depending on what the kids are into or their ages.

When we went back in Dec 2013 with our kids (16 & 12 ) they were interested in touring the museums in Honolulu, so thats something that you would not necessarily do with younger children, but it was really interesting and gave great insight into Hawaii's history.

Also on our list (we haven't done it yet) is to tour the Doris Duke house that she build on Oahu back in the 1930's called Shangri La.... thats not something our kids would be into. But since they are now older the 16 year old could have been in charge while we went there.

When we went this past December I tried to get my kids to try out the activities for teens, but for the most part they preferred to do their own thing.
They wound up renting paddle boards, hanging down at the beach and just doing what they wanted. My older son did do the teen Animation Cel Art activity in the community room one of the evenings and really liked it. There were about 15 teens participating in that. They also did Karaoke one afternoon along with some of the Cast Members, again in the community center.

Some teens were doing pickup games of volleyball and such down on the beach. I talked to another mom of a teen who was next to us poolside one day, and she said her daughter was the same way... too reserved to join in, though she also participated in the Animation activity and enjoyed it.

Here is a link to a thread where I, along with others, have posted scans of the Daily Iwa's (the resorts daily schedules) from our trips, that might give you a good idea of what the options are to get your teens/tween excited before hand:
