Hi there,

Sorry if this question is redundant. We will be at Aulani in late February. I am wondering if the bbq's will be ready for use. I read somewhere where they weren't available yet.

Also, I've read the food isn't great. We'll be eating in our room a lot but would like a nice evening out sans kids. Is Ama Ama worth it? Living in San Francisco, we can eat out at nice restaurants for the same price and know we'll have a great experience. I'm worried we won't have that based on the reviews.

One last thing...any tips for us? This is our first Aulani trip. There will be 5 adults, 2 kinders, and a baby.

Mahalo!

The grills are located near the Island side of the Ewa Building Long Wing, just past Auntie's Beach House and One Paddle Two Paddle. If you look at JonLouisB's posting of his view from Aulani Villa #787, you can see the grills in the last photo. They are in the upper right hand of the photo, just above the outdoor play area for Auntie's Beach House. Click here to see the photo.

I'll leave it up to others to comment about Aulani dining in general and Ama Ama in particular. Some people liked the food, others hated it.

You may want to check through the Aulani Villas and View thread for some general information about Aulani. It has some maps of the layout of the resort, photos of views, and comments about some of the amenities and services at Aulani.

Hello,

We returned a month ago from Aulani and saw that the grills were already in operation whilst we were staying there. We chose to eat at Ama Ama for lunch, based on the Trip Advisor reviews on the dinner not being adequate for the price. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch meal. We may try the dinner next time, but I would first check that the boards out the front have been removed from the construction as it blocks some of the lovely scenery and I feel that the view would be an important part of a fine-dining dinner at Ama Ama.

Enjoy your trip :)

As was already mentioned the grills are available. DH went down and grilled steaks for us one night while I prepared the rest of the meal in the villa.

Regarding the food - we are ones that thought the dining at Aulani was good and had a couple of very enjoyable meals at Ama Ama. We'll plan on eating there again whenever we go back. Being that you are from San Fran the sticker shock may not hit you as badly as it does those from other parts of the country - and thus the value comments.

But we also tried the Poke and sushi from Costco based on the rave reviews and found it adequate at best. Much comes down to personal taste and preference.
