So Disney is doing a 30% sale for 5 night stays for Aulani till Dec 21st, and prices work out to about $12.50 a DVC point (assuming 220 pts, although we're not DVC members, so this is just a reference point) for a 1 BR island view. I was originally thinking of going next May, but this deal is enticing. I have some questions though:

Are there downsides to the weather/pool temperatures in early December versus May?

Are there any differences between the 1BR villas that are reserved through Disney vs the DVC 1BR villas?

We'd like to do a few days at the Turtle Beach in the north shore beforehand, and rent a car. However, I'd rather not pay a $35/day parking fee for 5 days once we get to Aulani since we don't plan to drive after we arrive at the resort. So we'd like to drop off the rental car once we get to the resort (assuming Alamo). If we do that, what's the best way to get to the airport from Aulani? A one day rental via Alamo from Aulani to HNL is $140. Are there better options?

[It's about $100 more for the extra days on the car rental and $175 for parking if I keep the original rental car].

Thanks.

Not too much temperature wise, but December may have more rain...or at least it did when I lived on Oahu.
The DVC villas are the same as the cash villas. We did a 2 BDR last year and paid cash. It is listed as a DVC villa, but we had maid service everyday.
If you rent points, parking is free. There is a shuttle to the airport you can take from Aulani. It is $17/pp one way.

Thanks Girimama33. I was thinking of renting points as one of the other options as you indicated it comes with free parking.

Do you just ask for the shuttle at the front desk?

I arranged for it ahead of time directly through Aulani.
