How hard is it to get the whole week of Xmas to New Years at Aulani if it's not your home resort? Worth buying points there?

While I can’t say for certain that it won‘t be challenging, having stayed there during that timeframe twice, I can tell you that the resort will be packed. I own at Aulani and made sure I purchased enough points to stay a week during peak season when I decided I wanted to start visiting Hawaii every 2-3 years. Being able to book 11 months out has made all the difference. Having said that, even as an owner it can be challenging to book certain view types even at 11 months. I always book ocean view studios, so I’ve never had a problem getting what I want. I just looked on the DVC web and the only room available now for Dec. 24- Jan. 1, 2023 is a 1 bedroom ocean view.

We're also owners at Aulani and travel that week almost exclusively due to work schedules. After booking multiple trips now, if you want cheap rooms, you need to own there and there's still a chance you won't get it. If you want the more expense rooms, maybe.

You won't get anything at the 7 month mark if you are looking at December 25-January 1st.
We are DVC and Aulani is our home resort. I booked December 27th to Jan 1st when our 11 month window opened. I just did a search now for ANY DVC accommodation from December 25th and January 1st and the only option that is coming up is a 1 bedroom villa with Ocean view for 434 vacation points.
You either need to own here or you need to rent points asap because come the 7 month mark, there won't be anything left.

We'll be on the Fantasy for Christmas this year, but we also bought Aulani with the intention of staying over Christmas next year.

Whats the water temperature like at that time of the year?

@highmac Pools are nice ... Ocean can be cold for locals but my kids are fine with it ... Having said that, they tend to stick to the pools.
