Aulani 3-bedroom Grand Villa Standard View - Impossible to get?

Aulani is our home resort and even with the 11-month window, the Grand Villa (GV) seems impossible to get for Standard View (SV). I've tried checking/booking first thing in morning consistently for a few days and i never see availability pop-up, even to get a day in. How do people even get their foot in?

Any tips or suggestions?

There are only two standard GVs. There is no hidden secret for getting them, it is purely luck. Those GVs tend to disappear right at 8 a.m. 11-months out when they are available for any day and are often gone even before 11-months out (because members can book multiple days). Walking is even near impossible because you cannot even book a date long before your desired dates to begin walking. The only thing you can do is check shortly before 8 a.m. eastern to see if a date is open and, if so, then be prepared to act instantly at 8 a.m. and pray your computer communicates faster with Disney's than someone else's.

Up till about a year and a half ago I would see them available right at 11 months and also a day or so here and there. They’re never avail now. Similarly rare- the Akv club level and value studios will show like the last day of the booking window as a hopeful for “let’s try again tomorrow” but Aulani standard gv is just not ever available.

I have no idea how people book it. I am an owner at Aulani and I always look for the GV standard view and I have NEVER seen it available. Not even one time. But I will never book it, so it's not an issue for me. I look for my own curiosity.

I think they re-used the space. I’ve looked every once in awhile and it’s never available and nobody has posted being able to book it for awhile now.

Yea I’ve written it off at this point - just look every so often. Originally I thought it could have been for refurbishment, but I haven’t seen or heard anything.

I am also an owner at Aulani. I was curious so checked just now and the standard view is available for waitlist only at the 11 month mark with points. However, I could book it as a cash stay for almost $23,000 for a week next April!

I wonder if Disney is booking it with their own points and using it for character costume changes, etc. I thought the characters were doing socially distanced visits from the balcony of the SV GV, but I could be mistaken? I agree, it is never available for well over a year now, so there is something different going on there than the usual hard to get rooms (like AKV value/concierge, etc). I wonder if someone did waitlist it, if Disney would give up the room and the waitlist would go through?!?

The only thing I could possibly think of is that there might be a lot of guaranteed weeks contracts for the Standard Grand Villa, but I am just guessing. I only have 100 point contract, so I am unlikely to ever stay in one. But the mystery lives on LOL

They can be available. We had it booked for March 2020 before the shutdown and we couldn't go. We rebooked for October 2021 but had to go ocean view.
