We are planning a 2013 trip to Aulani. I don't want to travel to Hawaii during the summer months and want to avoid holiday months, but can not decide if May or October would be better.

Which do you think would be easier to book 7-10 days at the 7 month mark?

Which month would you experienced Hawaii visitors choose and why? Air fares better either month? This may be a once in a lifetime trip for us, so the planning is going to begin as soon as I can decide on the month we will travel and then try to be flexible with the exact dates.

I can't speak to October, but I was just there from May 8 - 19, and it was fabulous! I couldn't have asked for nicer weather - just a few sprinkles out by the pool one day. It didn't even make me stop reading my Kindle.

If you go in May, avoid the first week. Apparently there is some sort of Japanese holiday that week - I think they call it Golden Week - and a lot of Japanese go on vacation to Hawaii that week. I guess it's Japan's version of Jersey Week at WDW. :lmao::lmao:

We own a rental property in Maui and May and September are the least busy months. Weather is typically great during both. -- Suzanne

One thing to keep in mind, you are not likely to see any whales during those months. I have been 2x to Hawaii, May and June and have decided I won't go back again unless it is in the winter when the whales are around. It is a big part of the Hawaii experience, IMO. Just something to keep in mind...

If you like waves, winter on the North shore is the way to go. We just left Aulani and it wasn't horrendous. We were there for the 4th of July. No Disney fireworks. :(
