I'm thinking of maybe taking a trip in August....late Auust. Anyway my question is how busy are the DVC resorts? I would love to book now...but if I cancel I don't want my points to go into holding, so I want to be sure when I book that I am going. Has anyone had experience in August. I'm pretty much just wanting a studio anywhere for a Sun-Thurs stay.

Thanks!

We are usually there in August. Last year was the first time it was crowded. Disney ran a special package ....book a certain amount of nights onsite and get a few for free. (it was a zoo)
I noticed that they're running a similar special this summer, too....but we're still planning to go. August is still not as crowded as holiday times, and is good for our calendar. We'll be there a week later this year (last year was there 2nd week of August ) during the third week. Hope to beat the crowds....FL will be back in school and maybe the rest of the US will be home getting ready for school. Cross your fingers!!:earseek:

I have no idea how it is for this year, however I can tell you that last year I was able to book a 10 day DVC trip for the 2nd week in August at about 4-5 weeks out. We did have to wait list a bit, and moved resorts once (our choice) to try out the "new" BCV but overall, it worked out just fine. We did stay the bulk of our stay at our first choice, BWV. I imagine OKW might have more availibility because it is larger.

You can always call now to check on availability. Plus, people do actually cancel, so the waitlist works too.

Best of Luck.

The later in August you go, the less crowded things will be. Many schools start the week before Labor Day or even earlier.

But I don't understand the holding point concern. You could book your vacation now, and cancel any time up to 30 days out from your trip without being penalized by holding points. So why not book now and then take a look 40 days out?

Or were you wanting to book just a week in advance or so?

With the flexibility you have for resorts, I think you'll be okay, but if it were us we'd make the reservation now and cancel 40 days out if need be.

We booked August 15-20 about 4 weeks ago and had to waitlist for BWV. There was very little available at that time, so if your going to do this, DO IT NOW!! Almost everything was booked for BWV and BCV. We finally got a 2 bedroom for all our dates, but had to change it to a week earlier than originally planned.

We've had our ressies in for August since the 11 month mark, but my sister just made her ressie for August to join us. She couldn't get std view or BW view at BWV (obviously) but she did get a room (pref view, non-BW). 2 years ago she tried to make late ressies to join us in August at VWL and could only get the wkend nights -- the sun/Mon nights she had to switch to an OKW studio. I agree with the others -- reserve now, check again at 40 days.

Supposedly the Fla / Ga schools start back the 2nd week of August this year (August 9th). Ours schools up here in WV and eastern Ohio start around the 25th. It's a trade-off, timing wise -- the second week may be a bit more crowded, but the parks are open longer, too. Once you get past mid-August, things start closing earlier. One the one hand, that's less park time.... on the other -- less waiting around time for Wishes! Plus, features like E-ride apparently only extend (for now) into that 2nd week of August. (last ones are 9th, 11th, and 13th). Just some things to consider!

I don't think we'll be sure until about two weeks out. We only want a studio...and honestly any resort will do. Since I am new to DVC I didn't knowif August was a huge DVC month....like early Dec. is slower in general..but a busy DVC time...I wasn't sure if August was like that for any reason.

We are going the last week in August since most schools will have already started. NJ doesn't start until 9/6!!!! We only booked about 2 weeks ago and were able to get the grand villa in the BW. Before deciding on the GV, there were every type of room available but 1 bedroom std. view. Good Luck!

We have been going in late August for a couple of years now. Last year we went the 3rd and 4th week and stayed at OKW. The 3rd week was very crowded with that special WDW was running at the other resorts. The 4th week was much less crowded.::MickeyMo

This year we are only going the 4th week and staying at SSR.

We were there the last week of August last year. While the crowds weren't awful, the weather was! Hot and constant rain storms!
