We have been to Disney during a heat wave back in 02 and live in the South so I am not afriad of heat. However, I am wondering how hot and crowded I can expect it to be. If anything, the heat and smothering crowds would be our biggest problem if they are combined bad. However , we are not going to POWER attack the parks and will go early or late to visit them. My daughter is only able to handle just a few hours a day of rides and shows, then I usually just wheel her around in her Wheelchair Stroller while the big guys go off on rides. This works well for us.

I am also concerned about the previous posts and the GAC issues especially if it will be crowded. My Daughters Medical needs are extensive and Disney has always provided us with appropriate acomondations for us to enjoy our trip. I have no problem getting a MD's Note nor Explaining her needs but I hope it does not being a hassle especially since she can look rather typical.

We are staying at Fort Wilderness, in a Cabin, so we can unwind after a long hot day at the parks. I have never stayed on site. I realise this isn't totally considered 'On site' LOL.. but I am looking forward to it.

So any tips for an August visit.

Thanks
Nicole

We were there in August of 2005 and the temperatures were almost unbearable. Walking (and keeping hydrated) was most difficult because of the heat, not because of the crowd levels. I would say the crowds seemed the biggest the day we were at MGM followed by AK. MK wasn't far behind. After suffering the heat on the first day at MGM, we decided to take a break and wait until day three to go to the MK. That seemed to help. As for crowd levels, I'd say there were many more people there over the Christmas holidays and during February than when we visited in August. Good luck with your trip and may the temps not soar too high!:headache: :sad2:

First of all, yes you are onsite at Ft. Wilderness so you'll be able to take advantage of extra magic hours. If your family is up to it, I'd go to the late night extra hours and rest/swim during the day when it's hottest and most crowded. At least the free dining promo is at the end of August this year but it is pretty crowded in August anyway. Sounds like you have a game plan with your daughter and I'm hoping the OP who wrote about the problems getting a GAC had an isolated incident. ---Kathy

I've been in late August and it is indeed hot. We also had an unusual amount of rain that week - huge storms almost every afternoon from 4pm until bedtime. It is typical to get rain but not so much of it! I would suggest being prepared for rain (any covers you can buy for the chair?), etc.

What really helped I think was a good touring plan -we use Tour Guide Mike who sponsors now the Parks board. Even if medical issues override his suggestions it is helpful to know and I've found it easier to be find ways to stay out of the crowds with his advice (like not going to the most crowded parks that day in the first place!). I really cannot stress enough how much I think his service is worth it! There is a special needs planning board on his site too if you join - to help you connect his touring plans with your needs.

Some of the parks seem really hot - like the AK - it is hard to get out of the heat. I would suggest going early - taking an afternoon break and coming back at night as much as you can (AK that is harder to do but for other parks o.k.).
