August; A good time to go?

Many folks ask about WDW in August, We love it& always go the last week. This year its 8/23-9/01 at VWL.
The main reason: Low crowds. I can take the heat, I hate waiting an hour for a ride. Since the parks are still open fairly late, I can do a water park during the hottest part of the day and still hit a theme park with plenty of time. Go for It. :thumbsup2

We went last year during the first week of free dining Aug 21 - 26 and found low crowds and high heat and humidity - kind of a trade -off! We got to the parks early, practically walking on EVERYTHING, except for Stitch, and I would avoid that one like a plague!! The only attractions we used fastpass for were Stitch,(blech!) and Soarin. We liked that time of year so much, we are going again Sept. 5-10.

Have a great trip!!!!

Oh, did I mention it is HOT!!

we'll be there the same time Aug 26 - Sept 2! Glad to hear that free dining may not effect crowd level to much. I was kinda concerned when the stretched the book date out for that that the crowds might jump.

Hope to see ya'll there!

No you have it all wrong! August is the worst time to go. Tell all your friends don't go :rotfl2: We also decided to brave the heat and will be there from the 22 to the 29th. Friends of ours went last year around the same time and reported back that yes it was hot, crowds were light, and to expect a rain shower every afternoon. See you there!

Aug 17-27 and I am so excited about going to WDW for the first time ... on site that is .... And I have been going down the pass 9 yrs without going to a park... funny huh,,,,

Anyway see ya there...

We went in 2002 in late August and we are going back this year around the 15th. With families getting ready to go back to school, we found it less crowded and for all the money I am investing in the trip it is worth it for me to bear the summer heat.

Anyhow, I cannot imagine August heat is that much worse then July. Can you tell the difference between 97% humidity and 98% :)

Of course, we had a tropical storm warning for 2 days but perhaps hurricane discussions are a whole different thread..

Count us in (BC 8/26-9/2) - I asked the same question a month or so ago - looks like a great time to go. Everyone says the parks are not open as long but for us who typically go in January, the parks are open LATE!!!

Same EXACT dates as us! Are you planning to take advantage of the evening EMH's or will you avoid them? I'm trying to decide.

I will be going around the same time also. 9/27 - 9/2 and will be avoiding the parks with the extra magic hours for the most part. I will be doing Magic Kingdom morning EMH that thursday only for the sake of my DS but will take a break and not return after it gets busy in the afternoon. ( i figure he will love this park so we will be visiting it about 3 times and i cant avoid that day much with the schedual I Have planned).

Most people go to the parks that have EMH and plan their ischeduals around it, especially those with non hopper tickets so i figure these parks will be the most crowded.

what are the park hours in mid to late August? This is when I would like to go as well.

We've gone in August a few times. I'm one of those "weirdos" that love the humid Florida weather (too dry here in Nor Cal), so hurricane season is just fine by me. It does get HOT, but the afternoon thunderstorms are awesome! Just have your parkas handy and have a ball!! :umbrella:

Just check out the official disney world website and go to the 'calendar' section. you can find all the park hours there. :)
