Fireworks fans will descend on Vancouver’s West End once again Wednesday night for the second show in this year’s Celebration of Light.

A team from Spain will put on a 25-minute display entitled “Odyssey,” starting at 10 p.m.

The fireworks are launched from a barge anchored in English Bay, 300 metres offshore from the intersection of Denman Street and Beach Avenue.

The Celebration of Light, now in its 21st year, typically draws hundreds of thousands spectators to each of it events. The July 30 crowd was estimated at 300,000.

That show featured a display put on by the team from China. On Saturday night, it’s Canada’s turn in the final event.
Road closures

Traffic restrictions come into effect at Kits Point at 6:00 p.m. PT and in the West End at 7:30 p.m.

Vehicles owned by local residents and authorized commercial vehicles will still have access to the restricted areas.

City officials have issued a reminder that consumption of alcohol in city park areas is prohibited.

There were more than 600 liquor pour-outs, two dozen liquor seizures, and 10 drug seizures at last weekend's show, said Const. Lindsey Houghton of Vancouver police.

Police also confiscated 26 weapons, including three sets of brass knuckles, eight cans of pepper spray, four knives, and an ice pick.

Two people suffered minor injuries in a knife incident following the event.

thought about going to this...but am not quite sold on the thought of all the people/crowd. do you know where the best place to view it might be? any thoughts/opinions regarding this? must do? or not...? thanx! :flower:

Well anywhere near Beach Road - English Bay Beach - But it will be crowded!

You'll be able to see some of it if you're in the west end-just not anything low.

If you have transportation you could go to Kits Beach area-but again it will probably be crowded there also.

no car that day! :sad1:
only public transportation. not sure if the family is sold on the idea of heading to a crowd to watch fireworks. although it sounds like it's a wonderful event!! :flower:

Any other requests from the entourage?

Yes, the entourage dearly wishes she could be there to stalk you again.....and wants you to have the BEST time!!!!

I know you guys are going to have a blast. I LOVED Alaska, even when I was convinced that it would just be "okay".

HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME!!!

it must REALLY getting close, I got home from work and started printing directions...wow..only 1 1/2 days for us before we leave....

Just a few more hours before I close my last day at the office. :banana:DS has to work through Monday. DD is working at BABW in DTD and I think Sunday is her last day before we leave. I can't imagine working on Monday and leaving Tuesday morning. :scared1:

We just returned from the July 26th to Aug 2nd Wonder cruise and it was the best ever.

One of the hidden jems on board is the cooking class on the Wednesday and Thursday. Chef Cory is pretty funny and puts on a good show. The food he prepares is amazing. There is also a wine tasting with the meal. The show is usually around 10am.

Lots to do on board so have a great time.

For our Baltic cruise last summer, I worked until 2:00 on the day we flew out. Our flight left at 6:00 that night! I think the shuttle came to pick us up at 3:30 or 3:45!

Oh lordy....the trouble and the pictures....the Wonder would have been in trouble for sure with the 3 of us onboard. One of these days it WILL happen. There's still cabins left on the 9/7/12 birthday cruise!
