The light rail has a station at the airport. You would ride it up to the International District station and the the Amtrak station is less is less than 2 blocks from there.

Hello everyone. Just wanted to let you know that Irishbear and family are now on the June 14th sailing up to Alaska. We will no longer be cruising with all of you people in August. We will warm up the ship for you!

It is with great sadness that I did indeed have to cancel this cruise this morning. We did move it to a cruise next summer, but I will still miss meeting all of you, and will miss cruising with one of the best families I know of.

Has anyone given any thought to excursions yet? I've been reading and researching everything I can get my hands on. From what I've read, just about all the authors/guidebooks say that if you're going to Alaska, an excursion not to miss is to the Misty Fijords at the end of the Sawyer Glaciers in Ketchikan. DCL seems to have a couple options for this.

Another hint I've read (AlaskaCruiseAdvisor.com) is to take the Mt. Roberts Tram (about $21pp) in Juneau. The entrance to the tram is next door to the cruise ship docks and they say it's an amazing view from the top - the city of Juneau, Channel Islands, fijords, glaciers and mountains. There's also a very good chance of seeing wildlife like marmots, eagles, wolves, bears, goats, deer, etc. Also in Juneau you can take an inexpensive bus (about $10.00pp) to the Mendenhall Glacier National Park.

Haven't figured out anything for Skagway yet - anyone have any ideas? I bought the Frommer's Alaska Cruises and Ports of Call book but I'm a little disappointed in it. It spends a lot of time talking about ships and itineraries, not so much about things to do in port.
