August 7, 2005 WONDER 4-night Bahamian Cruise

Laura, if we had a direct flight, it would only take about 2 hrs to get from Washington, DC to Orlando, but with the change it will be about 4 hrs.

I know about long airplane trips. We have traveled to Egypt many times and it takes a total of 18 hrs to get there. We usually fly from DC to Paris and then on to Cairo. The flight there never seems to bad, but coming home makes me crazy.

And you are right about the house construction, it will be wonderful when it is finished. This is our 2nd go round, but the first was easy, as we didn't live in the house while it was going on. Going to look at hardwood floors today.

Looking forward to those lazy cruise days. :boat:

:sunny: I would like to visit Egypt !!! Marco (DH) was in Cairo twice for his job ... :sad1: but I could NOT leave my job as I'm a teacher...
Would have loved to admire those pyramids !!!! :3dglasses

Are you planning activities while in Nassau ?

We are going with Beckie and Terry to visit Ardastra gardens (...FLAMINGO show!!!) and Atlantis aquarium ! :rose: :fish: :flower2: :fish:
Beckie would also like to stop at their straw market , while doing a self-guided tour of downtown Nassau ; of course we both are looking forward to some EXOTIC shopping :smooth: maybe a cool tatoo for our pirate: pirate: night ???

DGH and I have already been in Nassau, but it will be soooooo nice to visit there with our friends !!!!!! :earboy2: :earsgirl: ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

CAN' T WAIT !!!!! :hourglass

Laura, no we don't have anything planned for Nassau. Since DD 17 has a friend with her DH may take them into town for some shopping. Other than that, we just hang on the ship. This is our third Wonder cruise and Nassau didn't impress us much the first time.

Cairo is an amazing city and the Pyrimids (sp) are so incrediable. Dh is from Egypt, so that is why we have been so often. Another great place is Sharm El Sheik. It's on the Red Sea and soooo beautiful. I want to go back there.

Italy is another place I would like to visit. One day, I hope!!

Here in Italy Sharm El Sheik is well known, many friends of ours went there on vacation !!!!
I would also love to take a mini -cruise along Nile river , I've picked some brochures up ... just beautiful !!!!!!!!
Maybe we'd better go on our Winter ... as I hear the weather is quite HOT overthere and I'm very heat-sensitive !!!!!
My friend said they also had VERY GOOD TASTEFUL food in Egypt !!!she loved especially their "pastries" with almonds !!!

If you ever decide to come to our Italy ... do get in touch with us !!! We live in Northern Italy - not far from here there are beautiful Venice and Florence !
Rome and Naples are far away, better to fly overthere ...
Last week princess: the DD of a friend came in Italy from Chicago; she was on a school / trip ... visiting from Sicily up to Florence ... she and her group really had a great time !!! when we talked (by phone) she stated she didn't want to leave !!!! she fell in love with Italian food !!! and Southern beaches !!!!!She ran out of camera films ... and we know she took at least 30 rolls with her !!!! Sooo sweet !!!!

OK. I talked too much !!!

How are your wood floors ... you were going to look at ?
Ciao, laura :wave2:

Laura, we chose the wood floors yesterday and they will be installed tomorrow (Thurs.) I am now taking a bit of a break from cleaning out the dining room and emptying the china cabinet. What a chore, although a good excuse to clean up.

If you ever want to plan a trip to Egypt, let me know. My dh has a travel agency there and I know that they have cruise tours of the Nile. As for Sharm El Sheik, we were there in July and it was not too bad heat wise. It seemed to be more humid in the evening. The shopping there was awesome. I have a wonderful collection of crystal and beautiful jewelery. I think dh hates when I go to Egypt with him, I cost him too much money!! ;)

One day I will get to Italy. It seems to have such beauty and magnificent history. Maybe dh will have to go there for business. He has been to Poland and has a trip planned to Belgium sometime next year, possibly Spain, also. It is hard with the kids and school. I am usually left behind while he travels the globe. :sad2:

Ok, now I have talked long enough. Counting down till August, I am so ready for a relaxing cruise.

Take care.

Ok guys,

It is now a mointh away. How will we concentrate on work and life in general??? I sound like my DD.

Nina,to me the best thing of a cruise is ...being able to take in into sooooo many activities OR ... :smooth: just do NOTHING at all !!!!!!

Are your DS and DD going to enjoy the kids clubs ? or do you like better to have a FAMILY vacation ... maybe just relaxing and playing by the pool all together ?

Are you and DH fond of their "adult only" district ?

Marco and I usually have lot of fun just hanging around ... looking for Hidden Mickeys ... admiring all those wonderful " Disney" details ...watching the waves or maybe a small isle we are passing by ...
DH OFTEN makes a LOOOOOOOOONG stop to sample those chocolate cookies or a crispy pizza !!!!!! :earboy2:
HE is also a good videotaping amateur ... we love to watch over and over our mementoes ( videos / photos) of previous vacations !!! So nice memories ...when ( at times ! ) life is "hard" ...

:cloud9: Laura

HOW DO YOU LIKE your NEW wood floors ? have they been completely installed ?

Laura, with most vacations, we just take it as it comes. I don't over plan activities. I know that DD 17 and her friend will spend lots of time sunning by the pool and in the teen club. DS 12 will want to hang in his age group club and DD 9, well, I'm hoping that she will want to spend some time there. She is my shy one. On our first cruise she didn't go much and we had an incident where she was very upset crying and none of the counselors noticed her being upset. The second cruise she never stepped foot in the club. I'm hoping that since she is a bit older, she will want to participate.

DH and I like to walk around the decks in the evening and have stopped into some of the clubs for a drink (not big drinkers). After the rush of being in Disney World, the cruise is my time to just take it easy.

As for my wood floors, the guy never showed up yesterday and he called last night and said he wouldn't be here today either as he was unable to get the materials. I was not happy yesterday. At least the ceramic tile people showed up and did the three bathroom floors. The bathrooms should be done this weekend, I hope!!!

Oh my, I have rambled on too much.

We do some plans ... but we also are VERY FLEXIBLE !!!!!!!!!!and always manage to have the greatest fun !!!!! :cheer2:

:worried: I feel sorry for your NOT DONE floors !!!!!!! I guess I can understand how you felt yesterday !! These guys can drive you crazy !!! They seem sometimes VERY GOOD at UPSETTING poor customers !!!!

I'm sending PD your way :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: so that your house will be finished BEFORE THE CRUISE !!!!!

  CIAO to everyone : maybe I will not be able to write for a few days ... DGH is going to purchase a new computer tomorrow - and then will have to travel to Athens for his job !!!! :guilty:
I'm NOT sure the new computer will WORK ...while I'll be on my own !! :confused3

TAKE CARE ... and keep on DREAMING !!!!!!!!!!! :boat:

Wish me :shamrock: GOOD LUCK with the new computer :badpc: ... internet connection etc. !!!!!!!

Nina
Last year on my birthday Oct 5, I received a cd from Marco/Laura.

I had been lucky enough to drive down and meet them while they were on vacation at WDW . We met for breakfast at WCC at the Wilderness Lodge, Marco filmed all the activities during our meal. My sister and two nephews were with us and we all had a great time.

So in Oct he sent me a CD with the footage he had taken of all of us together. After watching the breakfast footage he had recorded some of Priates Night pirate: from the cruise they had taken after their stay at WDW.

Well after I saw this I asked Terry if he would like to take a cruise...he said sure. I knew Marco had booked this cruise while on the trip so I sat up half the night checking on prices ect and booked it. So it was my Birthday present from last year.

Laura

Sorry I haven't been around much. We have had so much rain with flooding in my area, last week-end we had a Tropical Storm Cindy dumping rain, now we have Hurricane Dennis and the rain bands coming in from this storm. We have never had a storm this powerful in July ??? Cat 4 same as Charley last year :confused3 The storm is taking the same path that Ivan took last year, and many people haven't recovered from the last storm, now yet another 10 months later. It's going to be a long...Hurrican Season.

Now for some good news... :earsboy: Terry and I received our passports Thursday it took 60 days to get them back, just long enough to worry if they would arrive in time for the cruise.

How is your shopping going? Terry still needs a few items but I'm ready for the cruise.

We need to pick a good place to meet-up on the ship, so we can all say HI

Just a few weeks and we will be sipping on some

Beckie

Becki, so sorry about this horrible weather you are having. Hope you did not experience any damage from Dennis. We were at Disney last Aug when Charley came through. We were supposed to leave for home the day after, but ended up stuck when after getting to the airport, being told it was closed. This was after many phone calls to Delta and them telling us that all was a go. Managed to find a room at the Marriot, but had a hard time getting a flight out of Orlando. Ending up hiring a car service to drive us to Gainesville the next day and getting a flight to Atlanta and then on to DC. It was just me and the kids and it seems that anytime I travel alone with them, something happens. Oh, the stories I can tell you all. :sad2:

Laura, is that computer fixed yet? Hope all is well with you and DGH.

Bode, did you decide to fly into to Orlando? Is your DD getting anymore excited?

Well, Aug can't come soon enough. Can't wait!! :hourglass

Nina

Actually we received more rain from TS Cindy then Dennis when everything was over, just more wind and lightning from Dennis.

Wow you were at WDW during Charley, Laura and DGH Marco were over at Wilderness Lodge during Charley their first Hurrican...the next morning is when they were scheduled for the cruise they had a rental car and drove over to the port that morning.

Hope Laura is back on-line soon.

Only 26 days to go.

Beckie

Hey everybody "all 4 of you" I feel like I have gotten in touch with my feminin side reading through this thread. Well any way my Wife my 15 Year old daughter and I will be on this cruise. My only problem is my kid is antisocial unless shes cruising with her little click of freinds at home. I want her to try out the stack or whatever it's called and she think's it will be "gay"....Everything at 15 apparently is "gay". She's a great kid she just needs to meet some other great girls and I think she'll have a super time. The only thing she's jazzed about is shopping at nassau "Fendi store" and surfing the internet on the ship. My wife and I are hoping for some quiet time together ALONE and we dont want the Kid to feel left alone. So If any of you have teen daughters (no sons my kid is not allowed to date until she is 30!)that would want to call/chat/email pre-cruise that would be swell.

Hi Luckybug,

WELCOME to the DIS

While I don't have any children, I have survived being a 15 year old girl and several teenage nieces, so I know what your talking about. Hopefully she will either find other teens with the same interest, or manage to enjoy the activities that are available that aren't gay. Has she looked over everything offered while on the cruise. She could always meet friends while at Aloft on the Disney Wonder® (teens only)

I'm sure you and your DW will manage to have some quality ALONE time.
