August 2024 WISH Thread…making the most of the last month of summer☀️🏖️🌊

I’m home and I am TIRED.
Ended up becoming stressful Thursday night when we found out my FIL had to have an emergency stint put in. He had actually debated coming with us but wasn’t feeling well last week and decided against it and thank goodness for that!! I’m sure we could have found treatment in FL but…yeah would have been pretty awful so far from home. So very thankful he is ok and my MIL forced him to see a dr. Couple days of resting his arm and he’ll be good as new.
Great vaca though. We walked between 8 and 12 miles each day and I had kids meals for most of my meals so shouldn’t be too much damage done!

This is my favorite way to watch the fireworks…I have only done the fireworks cruise once…after renewing our vows on our 25th anniversary. The view is amazing. Hopefully we will eventually get to do it again.

I’m sorry that your FIL had a scary incident, but it is a good thing he was home where he could get the best medical care. I hope he heals quickly.

I’m so glad you enjoyed your vacation!!!

What amazes me is that it wasn't a permanent change! I thought remote work was really going to be a lasting silver lining from a horrible event, but my DH is going through a similar process at his company, where they're slowing chipping away at how much time they can work from home. (The irony is that his group was remote before the pandemic, and they're still expected to "return" to offices. They're losing people left and right.) @Oneanne and @piglet1979.

Sadly, no. The thing I was supposed to go to got cancelled. I will probably work on some decluttering and run to the store.
I thought the same and the part that is hardest to swallow is that engineering is largely unaffected so people in the office will still spend a great deal of time on calls and doing electronic communication.

Well, the good news for today is that I don't have to do 5th grade over again. I got 12/15 and VHS was also one I missed, "very" just didn't sound scientific enough.

Other good news is that the storm that rolled thru last night didn't destroy the garden. It was thunder, lightning and rain, which is unusual for us this time of year.

I have the appointment with my counselor in just a bit. The paperwork for an accommodation is surprisingly very little at all, she'll just write up a letter to attach to the application. Mentally I've been all over the place and a bit emotional as well, but at least I can feel the feelings so there's that.

Self-care today will be to hang around town. I think I'll go for some lunch then go to open crafting at the yarn store, mostly just to sit with other people.

Sorry for the late post today! Just got back from lunch with mom after church. My sister's family wasn't there today - they just moved their oldest DD back to college for her sophomore year and spent the night near her college.

I thought today's self-care meme was a good reminder that self-care doesn't always have to be a huge thing. Sometimes even the small things can reset our frame of mind and turn the day around!

And just like that…the weekend is over and here we are again!!! Happy Monday to everyone!!

I know most of us have a lot going on this week-back to school for the kids, the adults, work issues…hoping you feel motivated this Monday to remember to care for yourself in the midst of the chaos!!!

I lost weight last week on WW (after gaining 2 weeks in a row even though I followed the program…) so I am motivated to keep at it and also get my around the block walks in this week because the weather is going to be perfect!!

Any goals or plans for this week? Have a great Monday!!!

Starting this morning, and week, with some nice-looking weather outside after a wild and whacky weekend. Yesterday afternoon there was a downpour the likes of which I've never seen here before, huge rain drops forming almost a wall of water. Fortunately, it was all coming from one cloud and passed fairly quickly.

This is the week before my class reunion, so I'd like to drop 30 pounds. Just kidding. Kind of. I am looking forward to it... I think. Having met with the planning committee several times will make it easier, plus I've got an hour stint at the sign-in table to fill time. I'm doing the flowers and stopped by the flower farm Saturday to pick a bunch to do tests and am happy with what they have blooming.

Other than that, I have to go into the office tomorrow for an all-day working session. And I'm sure there will be discussion on the no-more-remote thing. My counselor will have the accommodation letter ready by Tuesday, as I really need to get it processed before I can say yes/no to returning to office. ON the way home I'll swing thru Bainbridge along one of the bus routes that services the ferry, to see what all is in that area.

How fun that you are so involved with your class reunion!!! How many years will it be? Do you all expect a big turn out?

I am glad you had a good week and that your FIL is doing good. I love this picture

I got the same. I agree, I didn't think very sounded correct.
huge rain drops forming almost a wall of water.
We get rain like this a lot. It is the worst to drive in. We got this on Saturday and it flooded our sun porch and front yard in minutes.

I had a great weekend. Well most of it. I took DH's grandmother clothes shopping. I was very worried about this but having my SIL with me was a great help. His grandmother thought she wore a size 14 (she has gained some wait so she wasn't sure) but she really wears a size 18. It was quite funny at one point that she was determined to get a size 16 but she couldn't get them buttoned or zipped. She said she just needed to lay on the bed and it would be fine. I got them buttoned, barely, and she still swore they were comfortable. We told her not and once she tried on the 18 agreed that the it was better. It really ended up being a great night with her and we even went to dinner.

Then the night hit and DD came home from band and was not doing good. She was lightheaded and had a headache and the cough was worse. I called her pulmonologist and they sent us to the ER. Everything was fine lung wise so they put her on an antibiotic, Zyrtec and Flonase hoping it was her sinuses that were causing it. The cough finally sounds a bit better. Still not great but she is not gasping for air when she breathes in when coughing. We already had an appointment scheduled with the pulmonologist for next week so hopefully we can get to the bottom of it. It has been a month of this cough.

Saturday morning DH and DD woke up very crabby so I went to the zoo with our friends with the twins. It was a great time and the best part, when I got home everyone was in a better mood.

Saturday afternoon we for a down pour that we haven't seen in a while. In minutes it flooded our sun porch and front yard. Not unusual with a lot of rain but just within minutes. DD got caught in the rain and it killed her phone. So Sunday we ran around to get her a new phone. It was an ordeal and DH was very crabby. He is on call right now and was up all night with work. So he had 2 night of not great sleep and it was showing. I also went school supply shopping with DD, DS went on his own last week.

Took today off to “relax” after vacation HA. Had to bring the boys to the dentist, finish laundry, put away DD’s birthday presents, buy birthday presents for my nieces and debate taking advantage of wdw bounce back offer.
Motivation is to keep up with moving! Last week I was up and moving a lot and felt pretty good (thank you monistat anti chafe lotion) so I want to keep that up. I will not be doing 10 miles but if I can manage a mile at lunch break and Zumba on Wednesday I’ll feel pretty good with that. Plus I bought stuff to make my sweet and savory coleslaw so hopefully I can bring that to work a couple times.

Whew!!! What a weekend! I love the running off to the zoo idea-I will save that for the future!!

Every movement is better than none!!! Good for you! I saw this recipe in my WW group it was a bag of (dry) coleslaw mix, skinny girl poppy seed dressing. A shredded rotisserie chicken and a finely diced apple. Sounded SO good!

I put all the ingredients in my grocery pickups and they were out of everything but apples 🤣🤭 gonna try again next week!!

Reporting live this Tuesday morning from a very fall like Pennsylvania-58 degrees right now!!!

Topic for this Tuesday-Keeping with the back to school theme-what was your favorite grade in school and why was it your favorite?

Probably senior year - because we could leave for lunch and study hall if we met certain grade requirements, and that felt very grown-up, and because doing the senior play was so much fun!

Yesterday was my first day back to set up my classroom. I had 4 giant bags of stuff I bought for my classroom plus a new rug for desk area. I loaded up my SUV with half of the stuff and DH loaded up his car and was about to leave when I discovered I had a flat tire. :upsidedow So I loaded everything into his vehicle and we left for school.

In spite of my flat tire, I was still the first teacher there, so the process of getting my keys and into my room was much quicker because the only people there were one of the secretaries and the security guard. Normally it’s a reunion of friends and colleagues while my DH is smiling on the outside and rolling his eyes on the inside just wanting to get to work. He helped me move all of my furniture back into it’s proper location…so much for the map the principal asked us to create to help the custodians…the furniture had been dropped in a random pile. Then other teachers began to arrive as DH assembled a new piece of furniture. When he was finished, he ran out to Duchess to get us lunch (no fries for me😁).

After lunch, he left to deal with my flat tire which turned out to be all afternoon while I continued working and sweating in my HOT classroom. Yes, our school is air conditioned…but someone needs to actually TURN IT ON.

I am so grateful that when I am given an obstacle, God steps in to help me. It could have been so much worse. The flat tire happened at home, not on the highway. DH was with me because he had taken the day off, so I was able to do my work while he took care of everything. Bad things will always happen, but it sure is nice to have support when they do.
