August 2024 Refurbs..Haunted Mansion Holiday opens July 29th! Space Mountain and Disneyland Railroad start August 5. Monorail starts August 12.

I agree @mamccall . The ride isn't the issue. The issue is getting people in and out of the building. Remember, the exit is being worked on as well. They're going to have to re-route the guests who are exiting the ride.

Do we know the rules for the VQ yet? Like does it matter which park for reservation?
From the Disneyland website:

There are 2 daily opportunities to request to join the virtual queue for Haunted Mansion Holiday:
  • 7:00 AM – Guests must have a park reservation for Disneyland Park with a one-park ticket or a park reservation for Disneyland Park with a Park Hopper ticket to request to join the virtual queue.
  • 12:00 PM (Noon) – Guests inside Disney California Adventure Park with a Park Hopper ticket or inside Disneyland Park can request to join the virtual queue.

What exactly are you worried about? Are you implying that Disneyland does not know how to handle VQ as well as WDW?

When Haunted Mansion receives its holiday overlay, it is tremendously popular. Add the fact that the attraction has been down for several months and you are going to find extremely high demand for quite a while.

Worried I won’t get into the queue. We only have two days and likely won’t be back to Disney land for years. So excited to get a chance but would have been fine opting to pay for individual lightening lane or something

HM has a pretty big capacity, like compared to Rises 1,200 people HM is about double of that

So if your on the at 7AM, you should be good. Same with at 1 PM because you can only get the Q once a day meaning the people who got it in the AM can't steal your chance to get in at 1 PM plus the 1 PM Q will have more hours, its 11 hours of Q vs the morning which is 5 hours

Just for clarity - the second VQ is at noon.

While VQ limits the number of guests who will be able to go on the attraction, a heck of a lot more will be able to enjoy it compared to if they kept the ride closed.
Why would VQ limit the number of guests that can ride? Unless they plan on having a bunch of extra spots, it seems the rides capacity is the sole factor. Unless they get through all the VQ’s early and just close the ride early?

It's a daily limit - the ride's overall one-day capacity. If the number of guests trying to join the VQ in a day ends up exceeding that number, then some folks won't get to ride.

I guess because they allow people still in line at the end of the night to ride (and keep it late enough to finish) so you could get more folks in than normal…

Honestly - that's normal operations - that's not a "more than normal" situation. Those guests count as part of the normal daily capacity, since that's something they do every day. They already plan on having those rides run after close. What they won't do is keep a queue open after close - that would be the only way to get more folks than normal.

The VQ basically just solves the math problem.

For example: let's say HMH has a daily average capacity of 15,000. And let's say that, on a given day, there are 20,000 potential riders - DL guests and DCA parkhoppers.

In a typical situation, they'll plan on having an above-average day, and put maybe 17,000 guests in the VQ between the two drops (7am, 12pm). Then they'll call as many people as they can throughout the day, depending on how well the ride is actually running. On a good day, they might be able to get through all 17,000. But if it's a typical day (15,000), there will be 2,000 people who get into the VQ who won't get called and won't get to ride.

But, either way, since there were 20,000 guests and only 17,000 VQ slots, the 3,000 people that didn't get into the VQ won't have the chance to ride at all. That's how the VQ limits the number of guests.
