Good news about Castaway Cay!!!! We have a cruise booked for 10-23. We are staying at Ron Jon's for a few days before and have heard that they sustained water damage and are closed for a time. Cross your fingers that we can stay at Ron Jon's for a couple of days, get onboard at Port Canaveral and visit CC.

No high tea for us. Sorry, Arlene! Already did the brunch thing and probably won't do that either. DH doesn't like to do either one. BUT.... he loves dinner there!

I really look forward to the sea days BUT I don't have any kids coming, either.

Brent doesn't enjoy tea much so I'd love to join the ladies for some tea.

Well, ok I am more of a coffee gal but I like dessert!

For those interested in doing a cruise related gift exchange>>> Do you want to do an exchange soon or do you want to wait until after the New Year? Also we need to specify a minimum $$$. I thought $20 would be a nice minimum but you may spend more if you want to. Is that too much, too little, or just right. I'm trying to get a feel for how many people would be interested. Kids may also exchange or we could just do a nice family exchange. If more than 15 or so people want to do it I'll keep it just to our specific cruise. If not enough people are interested I'll open it up to the other Repo cruise.

Please let me know what you want to do. (edited for Grumbo!)

I'd love to do the exchange but think it might be a nice pick-me-up during the winter time!<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/16/16_6_9.gif' border=0></a>

I'm up for kids or family exchange!

No won't trade a pickup for my Mercedes,
OK now my daughter is a good worker and usually listens. DW. Wonderful woman. One word from me and she does exactly as she pleases.
What do you have to offer in exchange?

Cheers,
Grumbo ;)

Arlene,

If you go to laughingplace.com, the HoJo is a very popular hotel and they offer a discount to LP'ers. The link that tells you about the discount is a little hard to find; if you're interested and can't find it, e-mail me and I'll try to find it for you. The HoJO looks like a nice hotel and it is a relatively quick walk to DL. Also, check out tripadvisor.com for reviews.

I've stayed at the Candy Cane Inn before. We liked it a lot. It was a relatively quick walk to DL and they had a good shuttle also. The rooms are small but clean. It is a well-respected and popular hotel.

Laughingplace will have a lot of reviews about the Desert Inn. I personally know nothing of it, but the reviews are mixed.

I've stayed at the Residence Inn Garden Grove also. It's a new RI and I usually love them. However, this was one of my least favorite RI's (poor design of the building and the rooms). However, most of my gripes about it were related to the hotel being at capacity; if you're traveling during non-capacity times, it would be fine.

I assume you have been to the DL portion of these discussion boards. They are smaller but I like them better than Laughingplace. (Do you think that will minimize the trouble I'm in for mentioning the other website?)

I'm still debating the cruise also. I'm very concerned about the number of days at sea we have scheduled. I still prefer DCL to the other cruise lines, but I do have to admit that the other lines have a better itinerary than our current one. I booked my cruise through Costco, so my payment is due in May. I'm going to wait until then and see what happens.

Wishing those of you cleaning up after the hurricane and those of you waiting to see where the next one is heading the best of luck. I was 5 years old when Hurricane Camille hit the coast of Mississippi - I still remember the misery of no electricity or running water during the heat of August.

And, as always, thinking of Sophie and her family.

I vote for waiting till after the new year. Reson being is I will be running the Ornament Exchange on the Community Board and it is HUGE, lots of people, tracking etc. But that's just me. And any of you who would like to get in on it, watch for the sign ups about the middle of November.

Grumbo, I'll try to get that Mercedes for you if you will get me a Mini Cooper AND a Honda Gold Wing.

Hey Jazzman,

Does JGE have a mercedes for sale?

I vote for after the holidays. That way it will give us something else to keep us occupied with besides waiting for this cruise!LOL

OK. I'll wait until January then. I think it would be nice to do a family/cabin exchange the more I think about it. If there is a family of 4 you still spend the $20 or whatever. If there is just one person in the cabin/family you still spend the same amount-- $20.

I got ressies to stay at the RI garden Grove...What is it that you don't like about it with regarding to poor design of the building and room?? I am staying at a 2 BR.

I think the family/cabin gift exchange idea for the new year is a great one! Count us in! Thanks so much, Kathy, for offering to organize this for us. I've never participated in one before, so I'll need some ideas of what sort of items (other than Grumbo's Mercedes:tongue: )

Yippee - company for tea!!! Thanks so much for the positive responses! Marsha - it looks like we could have enough to try to organize a small group for this outing! Martin was very relieved to hear he doesn't have to go.

Have a good day everyone!

Arlene

Grumbo , I like the idea of a trade but alas I already got a mercedes for my wife last year. Best trade I ever made!!...Mark

Alas Mark I have a feeling your wife feels it was the best deal she has ever got too :)

Cheers,

Sounds like we're all getting back to normal :p

I like the idea of waiting until after the New Year. A word of warning though...we have an exchange for our 10/2 cruise (Hygiene99 stole our idea ;) - you know we love you Peter!). If you are shipping something out of the country to Canada or elsewhere, you package will be going through customs. You need to be sure what you are sending can be sent through the mail. The person who had my name tried to send a food product and it was returned to them. And from what I've heard, overseas will cost you a pretty penny. As a result of the customs problem, I will be getting my gift onboard -- in 21 days! But who's counting anyway :teeth:

It's been a rough few weeks, so I haven't updated the index, but I will do so today (or this weekend). I promise:laughing:

Hey, no Mercedesfor me, but how about a BMW instead?? LOL!!! after all, if you look at my screen name, notice the first 3 initials!! and no, it not the car, but myself and Dh and last name intials!! Funny huh??

Arlene, sorry no tea for me...YUCK!!! don't like tea or coffee!! Even the tea at 'Tea with Wendy' is yucky and COLD!! but hot chocolate will do!!! yummy!!! Love to join you though!!

Tracy

That's a good point about Customs. Perhaps we could get a list of what things CANNOT be sent across the border. If we need to, maybe the exchange can be arranged within the countries? Nah - forget that! I can't afford Grumbo's "wish list":)
