It's just me and DH (Jim). No kids yet, so we are all by our lonesomes! I think we're going to go a few days early so that we can finally get to DL! Since we won't be using our DVC points for a cruise now in 2005, maybe we'll use them for a hotel out there.

I can't wait! And, I've figured out that it's never too early to get some lime green stuff!!

Oh no! Our school board is considering starting school the week before Labor Day next year! They are voting in a couple of weeks. If school starts early we won't be able to go. Think good thoughts for us. I will be really devastated if we can't go.

What grade are you kids in? Would it really matter if they missed the first couple of days? Nothing really happens those days anyway.

My daughter is a senior this year and because of the extension of the 8/28 cruise, she missed the first two days of school. It all worked out. She didn't really miss anything but the handing out of books. However, her school district almost did that this year -- start school before Labor Day. They finally decided not to because so many parents complained about pre-planned shore house rentals and trips.

If we sound like bad parents, oh well -- but our daughter starts college next year. If her classes start the last week of August, she will miss one or two classes. But when we talked about it, she still said she'd rather go on the trip. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity. She said she'll plan her schedule around it (it's a community college -- so not as complicated). But I DID love her outlook!

My son will be in 6th grade next year. He really needs to be there in the beginning of the year. I think the first week is a big adjustment and he really has to go that week. We even planned on coming home directly from the cruise on Saturday without spending time at WDW so that the kids could adjust to being home and then getting back to school. I wouldn't have as much of a problem with him missing in the middle of the year-- not a week though.

Yeah same here...It is a possilby that my kids school might start before Labor Day but i am not to fret since they don't do much the 1st week anyhow!!! We ARE going on the cruise!!!!

Unfortunately this one horse town decided to start school before Labor Day as well. I don't like it but decided not to allow it to influence my decision.

Are they actually starting a whole week before -- or just on the Wednesday before Labor Day? If that's the case, then they would only miss three days (or half days in some cases).

Well, I feel for all of you -- like I said previously, AFTER I jumped on the phone and grabbed a reservation, it dawned on me that my daughter would be in college NOT HS next year -- and (working for a college as I do), I realized they start before Labor Day. So we had to make some hefty decisions that week. My husband's reply when I asked him should we cancel because of Emily's school -- "Hell, no! This is a chance of a lifetime for her to experience". So, he wasn't about to consider cancelling. Love that cavalier spirit.

If you do decide to go, hope you can do it freely with no parent guilt or worry.

I see you are from Pa. too. There will be a large Dis meet in Allentown next July. Hope you can come. Several of us nut cases fom this thread are going to be there and would love to meet you and your DH.

I'm still waiting for the BIG eruption out in the west. : Our weather has suddenly decided that fall is here NOW and we are getting progressively colder each day.

I am sorry that your grandson won't join you this time...Hope you are not too disappointed...Kids can be funny sometimes; perhaps he didn;t want to leave his parents....

I don't know about Ashville but i know Williamsburg, VA is pretty at Christmas time...how long you will be on the road before and after WDW?? What day are you leaving again??

All or almost all of NJ schools starts after Labor day!!
Some schools in PA may or may not start after Labor Day..I think lots of school in the Northeast area starts later than most schools in the country.
Not sure about CA though, i think they are later too...

I received a phone call from DCL about two weeks (possibly 3) ago informing me of availability in categories 8 and 9. Category 8 was about $1500 more and category 9 was $900 for the four of us in one cabin. We needed two connecting 9s and we did get them.

I asked about pricing and she said that we were booking at the current rate. When they upgraded their website she said they changed their policy pricing.

Thank you for all of the replies, but I am still a little uncleaer, I presume its the difference between the current band of pricing for the upgrade.


IE if upgrading from Cat 8 to Cat 6 now,

Say purchase price cat 8 on May 5th $4k
Now the price on Cat 8 is $8k
Cat 6 now is $9.5k

The current upgrade is $9.5k - $8k = $1.5k.

Not upgrade cost $9.5k- £4k = $4.5k????

To all others, hope school does not commence until after Labour Day! That's one thing I could not understand why school would start just before a Long Weekend?

I asked DD last night if she would be interested in the DVC Member Cruise but when I told her that it was right after our Repo Cruise! She thru a pillow at me!LOL I took that as a NO!

She will be starting 8th Grade and does not want to miss any school!


BTW, booked our flights last night! Another reason why we can't stay for the DVC Cruise! Won't pay the changes fee!LOL

WHAAAAAT????? WHAT DVC CRUISE??????? How come i didn't get anything about that?????? Where did you hear about it???? We wanted to go the last time which was April '03 but we waited too late to book it....
