August 16, 2011 – 7 Night Alaska Sailing

For any Platinum CC members who may already be looking at excursions, can you answer a question please? I see the Neets Bay Bear Watch by Float Plane excursion is listed as seasonal. Is it available on your cruise? I am cruising a couple weeks after this cruise and just wondering? The early cruisers have reported it is not available in May yet.

Thanks for any help you may offer!

Oooh. That means I get to buy some pirate stuff for us! Of course it also means I'll have to find room for it in our luggage! :rotfl:

I understand! My DH has a giant leather pirate hat with a long feather we have to pack in a tube. I don't think I am going to go all out this time, but I am sure my DH will. I need to save room for rain gear and coats.

I signed up for this tour for our cruise. Neets Bay is at peak season when we will be in Alaska. The reason it wouldn't be offered in May is because there aren't any bears fishing in the salmon run in May or June. Neets, I beleive, is end of July to Sept.

Thanks so much! That is what I was hoping to hear! May I ask what time(s) the excursion is offered on your cruise? Trying to plan which excursions to book when the window opens.

Thanks again!
PJ

It's at 2:45 pm to 5:45 pm. That pretty much means the only other thing we have time to do in Ketchikan is walk around. That's fine with me, it's a great little town to walk through.

Thanks again! What about the Bear Country and Wildlife Expedition? We're weighing these and trying to decide.

If you think you'll have some time to walk through the town, if you go to the post I made comparing excursions in Ketchikan, there's a link to a free, self-guided walking tour of the city.

99 days! We're in the double digits now!:cool1:

Awesome! This is my exam week, and having this trip to dream about is the key to my happiness. :lovestruc I am also really enjoying the reports from all the bloggers currently cruising.

Good luck on exams! I just got through proctoring the Biology AP at my daughter's high school

3:45 pm to 7:15 pm. Obviously, I think Neets Bay is the better of these two bear options.

Would anyone mind looking up a couple of excursion times for Ketchikan? It looks like we dock at 1:30pm, but all the posted excursion times are for a cruise that gets in at least an hour earlier. Just trying to make plans for my choices and this might change things.

The ones I'm looking for are:
1. Mountain Point Snorkeling Adventure
2. Knudson Cove Salmon Fishing
3. Bear Creek Zipline Adventures
4. Magnificent Misty Fjords by Floatplane

Thanks in advance!

Aby

Here you go:

1. Mountain Point Snorkeling Adventure: 3:15-6:45

2. Knudson Cove Salmon Fishing: 1:45-6:45

3. Bear Creek Zipline Adventures: 1:45-5:15, 2:15-5:45, and 2:45-6:15

4. Magnificent Misty Fjords by Floatplane: 1:25-3:45, 2:45-5:15

That snorkeling Adventure sounds Chilly!

Thanks again! Flying is usually a better veiw than hiking I agree. :)

It's not so much the view on they way TO the bears as the view once you arrive. Neet's Bay, Traitor's Cove, etc are prime spots to see bears fishing for salmon up close and personal. Traitor's Cove was wonderful and I'd go back there in a heartbeat. We are only doing Neet's Bay because that is also a prime spot and we have not been there yet.

Thanks for the insight! I wouldn't know one spot from another. What do you think about the Alaska Bear Adventure excursion?

The snorkeling is our first choice - I hope we get it!

That was my second choice, going back to Traitor's Cove. We did it with Island Wings on a private tour in 2008.
