August 16 2009 4 night Wonder, Cruise-O-Maniac

It's been a crazy past few days! :scared1: DH, Nick, was diagnosed with Lyme disease on Tuesday. He wasn't feeling well for a couple of weeks and broke out in a weird rash on his back and chest - but it wasn't the traditional "bulls eye" rash that is usually associated with Lyme's disease. He also had a low fever, chills, and night sweats... (but of course nothing was wrong with him! ;)) I think he was down playing how he felt because his family was visiting from England, and he doesn't get to see them very often.

I always thought that a person only got 1 bulls eye only where the tick bit them and no where else; I had no idea that when the disease progressed that the rash also could move to other places around the body until I was talking to my friend who is a dr! So, I made Nick an appointment to see the dr (knowing full well that was the only way he was going to go!!!:rotfl2:)

Luckily, they caught it fairly early so he just has to take the antibiotic for 3 weeks, and that should take care of it! :woohoo: The crazy thing with this medicine is that he shouldn't be out in the sun too much - could you all imagine him being on the cruise on that - yikes! He would have been crispy fried!!! Good thing he'll be finished with it by then! :thumbsup2

Now the trick for him is to not get reinfected - between his job - he is a PE teacher and the ropes course director for his school. He spends so much time in the woods and in the trees, and he is a camp counselor in the summer- and he does the ropes course there in the trees again, and we even have a family of deer in our back yard -ugh- I think I need to buy him a bubble to live in!!! :lmao:

But, the good news is that I've received our fish extender, been shopping for items for the FE exchange :yay:, and even hit the malls for a few items of clothing! :rolleyes1

Keever, thanks for offering to make the name tags for the older kids - I can't suggest a place for us to meet since- I'll leave that to the experts who have been before. Do you think that we should have the younger group meet at the same place as the older group? Would that be easier so we don't have to arrange 2 meeting places?

Mandy, I loved your daughter's prom pictures! Everyone looked beautiful. It was so nice of you to do that for her friend... she will never forget that! :wizard:

I can't believe that we are going in 5 weeks... where is the summer going?

Lani

Wow wee! I don't get to check the boards for one day and I miss a whole lot!!!

Mandy-your daughter looked gorgeous and your post about her friend and how you dressed her up brought tears to my eyes. You are one awesome mom!!! I am glad that they had a good time!!

Keever-name tags are an awesome idea!! Thank you so much for offering to do them!! I am so happy that Colby will be able to meet some friends before going into the kids club, it will help a lot!

Lani-I'm sorry about DH, but I am glad they caught it in time!! I worry about Lyme disease, too. My DH is a surveyor so he is always in the woods or in fields. I wish they could come out with a vaccination! We are in Southern Maine, where do you live?

I can't believe we are 5 weeks out today!! DH and I went last night to get the "family" fish extender gifts...the only problem is they won't fit in the FE!!!!
So, we are planning on leaving them on the floor underneath the FE. I hope no one takes them :)

As far a meeting up for all the kids to meet, it seems it may be a little crowded, but how about the Goofy pool before fire drill? If we maybe co-ordinate an item to wear/bring/display, we could find eachother easily?? Just a thought!

For those of you that have cruised before with kiddos, when do we take them to the kids club to get acquainted?

Aww your poor hubby, glad it was caught in time and that he'll be fine before the Cruise :thumbsup2 Where does his family live in England ?

On my last Cruise, I had a gift that was too big for the FE, so I put everything in a little bag and hung it on the fish

Have a great day everyone :)

Hi Lani,

Wow! I am glad that they discovered your husband's lyme's disease. My husband Marty got lyme's disease a few years ago and ended up getting Bells palsy with it. His face still isn't the same, but it has gotten better some. We live in southwest Wisconsin and I have known several people in our area that have gotten Lyme's disease. We live in a hot spot here and it scares me ---especially since we live out in the country. I always worry when the kids play out in the grass and such. Marty had to get antibiotics for 3 weeks, plus IV antibiotics for almost a month, since he ended up getting lyme's meningitis. Ticks are pretty scary, since they can be so small.:scared1:
I hope your husband will have a complete recovery and will be alright for the cruise.

I am glad that you got your FE in the mail. Hard to believe that in 5 weeks we will be on the ship:yay: I can't wait!

Karen,

Hi,

I think that having the kids meet up before the boat drill is a great idea. What time were we planning on having the families meet the first day. Was it at 3:00 and have we decided whether or not to meet in the Promegrade (sp) Lounge or at the goofy Pool? Either place is fine with me. Do we want the kids to meet after the family meeting or at the same time? I know it can get crazy before the boat drill, but maybe if we wanted it separate then meeting at 3:30 would give us enough time to get back to the rooms to get our preservers on.

Since the Dis color is lime green maybe we could wear something lime green to show that we are on the Dis board and also help us find each other easier. We will probably wear lime green shirts or something lime that day. That is just an idea. We could also do something else too. Anyone have any ideas too?

I think that we can take them in the lab/clubs before and after dinner. I know we have late seating and the kids usually go to the lab/club after we eat supper. I can't remember if they go before or not. I think they have some
getting to know you or free time activities before hand and maybe we could get the kids together and have them meet then. How many of you have late seating for dinner, as well as early seating?

Keever,

Thanks so much for offering to do name tags. I think that it will be helpful for the kids to meet up before they go into the lab/clubs.

Vicki

Thanks Karen, Mandy and Vicki for your good wishes for Nick! He is starting to feel better - just really tired and milking it for all that it's worth, of course!!! :rolleyes1

Karen, we live in Lafayette Hill, PA - right outside of Philadelphia. We have a lot of Lyme around us, so I guess we've been lucky so far. Now I'm worried about the kids since they spend so much time outside....ugh!

Mandy, Nick is from Mansfield - right outside of Nottingham. We met a little over 18 years ago while I was doing my teaching practice in Chichester where he was also at University. We got married less than a year later, and I moved to England. We lived in Chichester for another 3 years, and then we moved back to the Philadelphia area where we have ever since.

Vicki, that is such a scary story! I hope that Marty is feeling better and will make a full recovery! I have been reading a lot about Lyme and am so thankful that we caught it in the beginning of the second stage. You know first hand all of the problems that this can cause!!! :scared1:

I am starting to get excited... can't wait to meet everyone!

Lani :cheer2:

Well fancy that Lani, Mansfield is less than an hour away from where I live. I'm from Nuneaton, a town between Birmingham and Coventry

Some more Pirate things arrived today, so hopefully I'll have all my FE gifts finished this week :)

Have a great day everyone

I can't believe how close our cruise is getting. We just found out today that we now have the early seating (as we requested). Yeah! I have got to get busy on my fish extender and our gifts! It will be here before we know it!!!

Hello! I finally ordered my FE the other day, so hopefully it will come in the next few days. Are you guys personalizing yours? I'm wondering if I should experiment with the printable iron-on transfers to put our names on it. Let me know if you have any other creative ideas (I was also thinking about velcro). Now I need to finish up my FE gifts and start shopping for sunscreen, etc. Of course after 2 weeks of swim lessons I need to replenish my supply anyway!

Tomorrow night we are going to the Baltimore Symphony for a concert of all Disney songs. They are going to play the music with scenes from the movies up on a screen. It should be a good show - hopefully I'll be able to resist the urge to sing along!:rotfl:

By the way, we are late dinner (I'm not sure if we're wait-listed for early or not - I asked our CM to put us on the list, but he never said he did). In case I don't get a chance to check back in over the next few days, I hope everyone enjoys their weekend!!!

Let me see if I can come up with something creative to display some lime green, too.

If anyone on early seating is interested in sharing a table at dinner, maybe we can make a note of that on our ressies? Just a thought!

It's coming!!!! SOON!!

Julianne ~ the concert sounds great, I hope you have a great time :thumbsup2

Karen ~ I love your t-shirts ::yes:: At least I'll be able to notice you at the terminal :thumbsup2 Can you wear them the whole cruise ? as I'm rubbish at recognising people :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Have a great weekend everyone :)

I bet you are excited to receive your FE:banana:When we ordered ours off of E-bay a year ago, we had characters put on everyone's pocket along with their names. We have 2 FE. One for the kids and one for Marty and I.

I hope you enjoyed your concert. It sounds like it would be a lot of fun! Have a great weekend!
