~Aug 2013~ Sew what~We've gotta find a way back-Part II- TR link posted - 8/31

:yay::yay:Can't wait to meet you & the girls!!!:yay::yay: thanks to you I have one ADR for our trip. I started my planning spreadsheet today (that my friend likes to call my color coded matrix of fun) so hopefully I can try to make a few more.

Still crazy busy, crazy stressed at work. Many folks are at our annual meeting this week so it's nice & quiet in the office this week but I'm still crazy busy.

Oh...I have to tell you a car story. The driver's side rear window-the big one in the door-won't go up. The switch is broken. Nice timing with all this rain & we have no garage. We brought it to the dealer and also told them that the tailgate door wasn't staying up. They gave us a quote of $425 to fix the window & $459 to fix the tailgate. we told them we would have to think about sinking that much $$$ in a 6 1/2 year old car. So I googled the tailgate problem because I could have sworn we got a recall on it but the dealer said no. There was a recall but only if you had a power lift that we don't. BUT that search led me to find the parts on Amazon for $44 shipped and every rating was a 5 star. I ordered the parts last week and we got them installed on Sunday-super easy and we saved over $400!!! Now we need to find someone cheaper to fix the window switch.

I wish you a wonderful day of working on your custom today...may everything go as planned, and my your day be uber productive!

LOL Thanks Oopsi!

Yes your right i would buy ALL your Da~Bags!!! I love them!!!

can't wait to see a picture of SAMMIE/Sammy/sammi

LOL - I know Mo... And I agree - I saw pictures of her on FB, but I woulnd't mind seeing (lots) more. :thumbsup2

FWIW in my mind I always say it like the bolded above and I love your DD's name all 3 versions Hope you are feeling better ...Ruthie

Thanks Ruthie... I really love Chiara's name!

Wow, I go away from the DIS for a few days and there has been so many more pages onto part 2 of your PTR! As I said in my PM, my mom has been here the last week, doing her best to drive me crazy and frazzle the last bit of nerves I have left! My oldest 2 are now in Vegas with her for the next 3 weeks, so I have some time to recoup for when she brings them back in July!

Yes, sometimes this thread does move a bit quickly, but it seems to have slowed down a bit over the last few days - which is good, because I am in the home stretch of my big auction bags.

Wow - that must be hard to have your oldest 2 gone for that long! Or were you looking forward to it? :rolleyes1

The MP bag was beautiful...I would be SO scared to get it dirty though! Then again I have 3 boys, so getting dirty is part of my day!

Thanks! That's why I wanted it out of my house asap... The whole time I was doing that bag - I wouldn't let a soul into my sewing room - so help me if anyone got anything on it. :rolleyes1

I LOVED reading about the process you had for making your last auction bag...I like to see how the creative process works for you. I can't wait to see what you dream up with each new bag.

Did I post a process? I don't remember? Or were you referring to when I made the zipper pull? I really loved that JC bag - it is right up there with my all time favorites.

I hope you get what you want done in your sewing room done :)
How great with 2 DIS meet on day 9 of your trip :cool1:

Thanks Lillian... I am really excited about these Dismeets - I just love doing them... Hopefully one day we will meet.

:yay:Can't wait to meet you & the girls!!!:yay:thanks to you I have one ADR for our trip. I started my planning spreadsheet today (that my friend likes to call my color coded matrix of fun) so hopefully I can try to make a few more.

I am very excited to meet you as well! It seems that we have been friends for so long now, and it is so wonderful that I finally get to meet you and your family. So, you haven't said much about this trip... Will you tell me a little about it... Where are you staying? Who will be there with you? How long are you going for??? You know - all the FUN stuff. :woohoo:

:Still crazy busy, crazy stressed at work. Many folks are at our annual meeting this week so it's nice & quiet in the office this week but I'm still crazy busy.

I hope it settles down for you very soon.

This is awesome! I am so glad you were able to get it fixed at a reasonable price! :cheer2:

Despite my goofing around in Mo's thread most of the afternoon yesterday... She just did a few updates from our MOA trip - she is an amazing writer (and a more amazing photographer!) and she has me in stitches most of the time - so if you have a moment, please hop over there and check it out. Here's the link to the start of the MOA portion:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2994258&page=44

I was able to get my next custom order cut out and fully quilted yesterday. I plan to work on the appliques today... I even have a few surprises up my sleeves for this one. popcorn::

After dinner - I went upstairs and completed my girl's GAC wallet for the auction. I'd still like to get 2 more done (one more boy and one more girl) and a couple of camera straps. My deadline for these items is Sunday... I need to have that much time, so I can finish writing all of the auctions.

Josh came home yesterday from his annual fishing trip to Northern MN/Canada... He had a great time and caught lots of fish. I am happy to have him home.

Today I will be sewing, sewing, sewing!

I also thought I would share a family photo from our 2003 trip... I was super excited about this picture - some random guy offered to take it for us (this was back in the days of film cameras) - and even though he got us in the picture, he cut off half of the Lion King thing in the background... (If you look closely - you can see my famous fanny pack/water bottle combo from this trip).

Have a great day everyone - prayers and good thoughts to all who need them. :grouphug:

D~

What a cute picture from 2003! I'm glad you're moving right along on your auction items and your latest custom order. I've been hard at work getting ready for our neighborhood 3 day garage sale. It's supposed to rain all day tomorrow, so may not get a lot of people. It's always a crap shoot anyway.

On another note, last night Dan said to go ahead and book a September trip!!! However, their system is down, so can't do anything this morning. Southwest/Airtran has a huge sale on airfare, so that was the deciding factor. That, and we've decided to take the two grandchildren who turn 5 next year on ONE trip instead of doing two separate trips. I'll keep you posted if I actually get to book.

Have a great day in the sewing room today!

That picture from 2003 is really cute (well other than Simba missing his head! :lmao:). Where was that taken? It looks like Animal Kingdom but I've never seen that in anyone elses pics.

cute picture.

Yeah for more GAC holders. I love ours and now that I have to carry a diaper bag again this will work great.

The MOA trip report is completed....

I LOVE THAT picture!!! isn't that the same thing they use in the show?!?!
Totally awesome with your chicken legs!!! :lmao:
I can honestly say i NEVER wore a fanny pack...
popcorn::

cute picture.

Did I hear camera straps?? GAC wallets?

I love the family photo from 2003. Oh, the film days.... Was this taken at the festival of the lion king when it was outside? We went to AK in 1998 (I think it just opened) and I think I remember sitting outside for that show.

Can't wait to see all your auction items!

Thanks for reposting the link to Mo's TR again. I wanted to check it out but haven't made it over yet.

I hope it settles down for you very soon.

This trip is the entire family-me, DH, Lizzy(14), Joe(12) and Emma(10). Since we went to CA & DL last year DH, Lizzy & Joe haven't been to WDW since Aug 2011. Joe, my Disney fanatic, is VERY excited to return!

We're going for 14 nights!:cool1: The first 8 in a savannah view 1BR at AKV Kidani. I'm excited to have lots of room, a full size fridge, washer/dryer, huge balcony, 2 TVs (our TV in our living room hasn't worked since last August and the kids haven't complained too much so we haven't replaced it yet) and 2 bathrooms! I'm nervous about how remote it is and that it has no quick service right there. I'm sure we'll be fine-I've stayed at Pop more than any other resort and is just as remote (but I don't pay what I'm paying to stay at AKV). I have stayed at AKL twice and really liked it a LOT more than I thought it would. Emma & Joe who stayed at AKL once each with me are both very happy to return. We don't fit in one room at AKL so staying in a villa is the way to go for us here. I don't have enough DVC points for 2 weeks so I booked this bounceback. I thought it would be good to stay at another DVC unit to try out another one.

Then we are staying on my points for 6 nights in a Boardwalk View 2BR villa (with 3 TVs:rotfl2:). I've stayed at BWV twice in a studio and 5 times in the Inn. I really love the BW resort so I know we'll be very happy there.

I still have to blame you for my DVC purchase.:rotfl: You did all that talking about it last year. That & a couple of parents in Joe's scout troop were talking it up to DH. We closed on our DVC purchase in time to get the deal on the premium annual passes at $399. We have vouchers that we'll activate when we get there. That was less than I could get 10 day water park & more hoppers for. I'm hoping we'll make another trip next year in early August to get 2 trips out of the same passes.

I worked a bit on my schedule again tonight and made 5 more ADR's-LTT for lunch, Via Napoli once for lunch while at AKV and once for dinner while at BWV, Sci Fi for lunch, and Flying Fish for dinner while at BWV. I think I might make a dinner for our arrival day at Sanaa and maybe a dinner at Jiko while at AKV (we've been before and really enjoy it there). I think I'll call and ask about booking the Archery "thing" at Ft Wilderness-Lizzy would LOVE that! I also have to read more about golf at Oak Trail and figure when/if we want to try a water park and which one (we've never been) and if/when we might want to try mini golf.

Aren't you glad you asked?:rotfl2:

Thanks for the good wishes about work. I know I've still got it pretty good but it is very stressful. They fired someone else last week. Now this person I thought was a weasel and won't miss at all but it still keeps everyone a bit scared! I've been there 21 years and am at an age that I think would make it very difficult to find another job.

Love your 2003 photo!!!! I don't remember where that was but I didn't visit AK between 1998 and 2004. I had a fanny pack. Actually I HAVE a fanny pack but I haven't worn it in the parks in a couple of years. I still think they are very convenient! I still bring it with me to WDW in case I have to wear it someday.

Can't wait to see all your auction stuff!!!!

Hope you had a successful sewing day!!

Been pretty here this week with between Sarah finishing up her last day of Pre-K yesterday (I cried) and Jeremy finishing up Kindergarten tomorrow!! I cried again for him today when they were doing their Kindergarten Moosical!! They all did a great job!! Afterwards we presented them with a #1 Cake that said "Welcome to 1st Grade!!" It turned out great and they loved it!!!

It's supposed to rain all day tomorrow, so may not get a lot of people. It's always a crap shoot anyway.

Thanks Lois! Yah - I did get stalled out a little on my custom order yesterday, but I hope to catch back up again tomorrow. I sure hope your garage sale does well.

On another note, last night Dan said to go ahead and book a September trip!!! However, their system is down, so can't do anything this morning. Southwest/Airtran has a huge sale on airfare, so that was the deciding factor. Oooh - that's awesome! I hope you were able to get it booked. I can't wait to hear what your dates are and where you are staying... If there is any way you can get there before the end of Aug - let me know... I'd love to meet up with you.

That picture from 2003 is really cute (well other than Simba missing his head!Where was that taken? It looks like Animal Kingdom but I've never seen that in anyone elses pics.

LOL Thanks... That was actually taken right by the entrance to AK - sort of by the RFC... I am not sure why it was there or for how long, but I am happy to have a half a picture with it. LOL

cute picture.

Yeah for more GAC holders. I love ours and now that I have to carry a diaper bag again this will work great.

Thanks Chiara! I am glad you like yours... And you go so often, it's nice to know it's useful too.

How have you been feeling? I"ve been trying to watch for updates, but I haven't seen any.

The MOA trip report is completed....

I LOVE THAT picture!!! isn't that the same thing they use in the show?!?!
Totally awesome with your chicken legs!!!
I can honestly say i NEVER wore a fanny pack...

So sad - that was the best TR ever! Thanks for taking all the time to write it.

Well, as far as I can tell - it is not the same float used in the FOLK - that's not to say it wasn't a parade float or something at one point? Here's my photo from FOLK last year - it's the only one that actually shows that float in some detail - you can tell that the bottom - under pride rock - is a bit different. That's not to say that it hasn't been modified since then - it just looks like the bottom portions are way off.

Great picture of you all even if Simba is cut off

LOL - thanks LIllian.

cute picture.

Did I hear camera straps?? GAC wallets?

Thanks - yes you did... Hopefully... I did not get started on any of them yesterday, and won't have time today - so I will be cutting it close.

I love the family photo from 2003. Oh, the film days.... Was this taken at the festival of the lion king when it was outside? We went to AK in 1998 (I think it just opened) and I think I remember sitting outside for that show.

Oh wow - I never knew that show was outside.

This photo was actually taken right outside (or right inside) AK's gates, by RFC - if I remember correctly, can't believe it's been 10 years already!

Can't wait to see all your auction items!

Me too!

Thanks for reposting the link to Mo's TR again. I wanted to check it out but haven't made it over yet.

Yes - go over there... She is an amazing writer... Most people that started off reading the MOA portion went back to read it all, because she is just very entertaining. :cheer2:

14 nights!!! AWESOME!!! LOL about the TVs... Don't tell me the kids are most exciteda bout that? :scratchin I would be very nervous about no quick service - that is one of the reasons I have issues saving a lot of $$ staying at SoG (no quick service, or any edible food to be found - and their bus schedule is only once per hour). Oooh - you were able to book DVC as a bouceback??? I need to look into this further... We have the girls' sweet 16 trip next year with bff, and I am hoping to find a bb in my room for it... Do we have to be totally decided on our resort choice when we book - or can we just book with the bb offer and change our resort (possibly our category) later? I've never booked off of a bounceback before.

Then we are staying on my points for 6 nights in a Boardwalk View 2BR villa (with 3 TVsI've stayed at BWV twice in a studio and 5 times in the Inn. I really love the BW resort so I know we'll be very happy there.

Another resort (and view) I would love to stay at...

I still have to blame you for my DVC purchase. You did all that talking about it last year. LOL Well - I am very glad that someone got to benefit from all my research. Some day I hope to own - but I think it will have to be once the girls are off on their own and we are rich. :thumbsup2 :rotfl2: That was an awesome deal for the passes - I remember that!

I worked a bit on my schedule again tonight and made 5 more ADR's-LTT for lunch, Via Napoli once for lunch while at AKV and once for dinner while at BWV, Sci Fi for lunch, and Flying Fish for dinner while at BWV. When you get your park days all ironed out - please let me know - if we could meet up twice that would be great too!

Personally - I wanted to do TL... but the girls voted me down so we are doing BB. I wish we had the time to do both.

Aren't you glad you asked?

Very!

Thanks for the good wishes about work. I know I've still got it pretty good but it is very stressful. They fired someone else last week. Now this person I thought was a weasel and won't miss at all but it still keeps everyone a bit scared! I understand your concern. :grouphug: Hopefully your employer is done with getting rid of people now.

Love your 2003 photo!!!! I don't remember where that was but I didn't visit AK between 1998 and 2004. I had a fanny pack. That was at the entrance to AK - can't remember if it was right inside the gates or right outside, but it was by RFC.

I still have that particualar fanny pack - somewhere... I run across it every once in a while and then I bury it again. :rotfl2:

Hope you had a successful sewing day!!

I cried again for him today when they were doing their Kindergarten Moosical!! They all did a great job!! Afterwards we presented them with a #1 Cake that said "Welcome to 1st Grade!!" It turned out great and they loved it!!!

Thanks Sandra! Congratulations to the kids! How wonderful... It does go by way too fast.

**********************************************************

I worked on my custom order bag applique yesterday... I was having a really hard time getting it to come together, I had to seek out the advice of someone else to help me work through it... It was rough. And then - when I was all done - I decided I didn't like the look of something, so I ripped out my satin stitching and redid it. Have any of you ever ripped out satin stitching before? It's a pain! I am happy I did it though, because just that one little thing made all the difference. I still have one other part to do to the applique, but for the most part it's finished.

I won't be in my sewing room at all today - unless I get in there this evening... I'd really like to try to, at least, get my next GAC cut out and quilted. Any progress would still be progress.

I have to work at Target today... :crazy2: That is all.

**********************************************************

Trip stuff...

So... If I make my minimum bid on everything in my crazy days auction, I will have enough to pay off my trip AND make a big dent in my park tickets that I still need to purchase.

I am still concerned that I will be stuck with some items that won't sell... I am very nervous about that actually. :scared: If so, I just hope it isn't too much.

Anyways... I am still trying to work out the rest of our trip budget - on top of the park tickets that aren't included in my "trip" - because we have the military discount, we cannot have a "package"...

I still have a few things to pay for - which add up. I have a feeling I will be down to the wire on this trip too, and it makes me sad - I was hoping to have a little bit of disposable income to take with for some fun extras... Oh well... It can still happen.

Once the trip and tickets are paid off, we still need to pay for - in this order...

Photopass +: $150 (can use GCs for this)
Baggage Fees: $150
Tips: $75 (can use GCs for this)
OOP food: $250 (can use GCs for this - mostly... Do they take Disney GCs at Ghiradelli?)
Water Park: Approx $175
Dessert Party: $75 (can use GCs for this too) - Suzi already booked for us -and I am just paying her when I get to Disney.

So, I still have a lot of cash to choke up. Total above is $875. :scared: And that's to go down with the bare minimum... I still haven't figured souvenier $$ into the mix - however the girls are paying for their own souveniers this time around.

Yet again - it will be a close call.... Darn oven... Darn Jeep... Darn truck... Darn Edge (which I still haven't fixed)... Darn surgeries and Dr.s... Darn everything. LOL

Oh well - I will certainly keep all of you on the edge of your seats until we leave. :teacher:

Leaving you all with another fun Disney Photo from 2003... One of my favorites of Miss V.

I might suggest looking into getting your tickets at undercover tourist but I think your gift card discount will be a better deal. Their prices include shipping and taxes but you have to order 10 days out for the feee shipping. Have you recalculated your ticket costs with the ticket price increase that happened about 10 days ago?

I have to go on my computer to see your 2003 picture of V and Mo's pictures from MOA. They are not showing up on my tablet. I am catching up on her TR so I have not made it to your dismeet yet. Some pictures show up and others don't? ??

I am glad your restitch worked out buy YIKES on having to rip it all out. I was looking through some of my pictures of my first hand appliques and I can see why I needed an embroidery machine. LOL. I think I might be able to do better now but I doubt it. So I will continue to enjoy your work and marvel at your skills.

Also, I used your lanyard during our entire trip to Universal. It was a life saver. They are very strict there and you can't bring any bags on their coasters and other certain rides but you can wear a lanyard. So thanks again. It was so handy and I do LOVE it.

That picture is priceless!!!!

You will do it and the bags WILL sell... if not.. I will buy them... :thumbsup2

I just wanted to reply to this one part this morning, since I am still on The Dis...

Ok - so according to Undercover Tourist, our park tickets would be $905.25

If I purchase at SoG (can't use GCs to pay there), our park tickets would be $909

I also know that Disney is offering the military ticket through the end of Sept - which we qualify for... However, because of how many park days we have, we would have to buy 2 sets for each of us - and there is conflicting information on whether Disney will let you use them back to back, like we'd need to... The cost would be $1104, and I could use my Target discounts with these tickets - which would bring it down to $896... Which is still more expensive than buying through Disney - however we would get our water park admission with these. That being said - I just can't take the risk that maybe it will work and maybe it won't work once we get there and the cost savings is sooo minimal - I would just rather buy regular tickets, so I know we are guaranteed entrance when we need to. :thumbsup2

If I purchase from Disney, our park tickets would be $987.27 - 10% (Target discount) - 5% (Target Red Card discount) - 5% (Target Pharmacy Rewards discount) = 801.91 and that includes the tax from Disney. Our Water Park tickets will be an added cost of $169.35 or $137.55 after all of my discounts.

So, it saves me a hair over $100 to buy directly from Disney. I did glance at the ticket prices after they'd gone up, but I haven't gone around trying to figure it out. So, thanks for the reminder. For me, because of all my Target discounts, it's even cheaper for me to buy directly from Disney than it is from SoG.

D~

i am looking forward to your auctions :)

Oh and I am going to be posting a little update on my PTR later.

That picture is priceless!!!!

You will do it and the bags WILL sell... if not.. I will buy them... :thumbsup2

Not if I get to them first. :rotfl: My goal is to have a Serendipi D~ bag for each day of the week. 2 down, 5 to go. ::yes::

Oh and I love the picture of V with Ariel. I never got to see the old Grotto. Well, it was there in 2010 but my whole group was adults and we weren't into character greets at that time.

since its a local call for me I just got off the phone with "Mariella" at Ghiardellis
