~ Aug 2013~ Sew what... We've gotta find a way back! Part I!!

mm happily snoozing below to the comforting sound of mom's machine sewng away. He was laying on my foot pedal.

Personally i think you are all wrong, here's what really happened:

When no one is home he gets bored (and tired of eating the rug) so he turned on the computer and has been reading this ptr than he thought "wait a minute w a y back about 60 pages ago mom said she might have to make me pants for when dad takes me hunting (don't want to go through that again ) but now she keeps talking about some mouse and nothing coming from that humming thing above by head looks like my pants :confused3

so mm pondered what to do  And he came up with a plan, "i will lay under here and watch and learn" and he did then mm practiced "pretend to be asleep" and then one night mm said to himself :listen: "they are asleep"
and he started to make his pants :woohoo: But what mm didn't count on was that his people would hear the machine ::yes:: And get up from :cloud9:

But mm heard his mommy running to the sewing room and quickly laid down and did the "pretend sleep" figuring that he could pull it off and that knowing mommy would get another cute picture of mm and he would be on fb and the dis (terms mm is very familiar with) again because mm is very handsome and is very smart

so :listen: Mm promises he will find a way to make his pants because he knows mommy is very busy and mm just wants to help and he needs pants (and remember dogs are supposed to be color blind so please forgive mms plan)

Glad the remolding is doing ok, the gas is obviously still working and the house is still standing!! :cheer2:

I must catch up soon, I am so behind, but I wanted to say...
D, I completely understand about your dad, sorry you are going through that. Something somewhat similar is happening with my grandpa in that the family has been forced to intervene. He has been taken in a money scam. I always thought he was too smart/savvy for these things. He watches the news, he watches Dateline, he's seen the stories about them, yet...... (sigh) Apparently it has been going on for over a year. My Uncle found out and intervened, got his phone number changed and email address changed and said don't talk to them, but what happened... my grandpa called and gave them the new numbers. He is so brainwashed that he's going to get these millions of dollars and a Mercedes benz in his driveway. It honestly makes no sense. I thought he was deteriorating mentally, but my mom said no there really is no signs of that. He is around 85. He just honestly believes that he is really going to get this money (however the scam goes.) My uncle finally told my mom and my aunt what was going on a couple weeks ago but they didn't tell my grandpa they knew, just trying to keep it "quiet" since my grandpa is very proud. My Uncle honestly thought that by doing what he did, it would fix the problem. He got phone numbers changed, email addresses changed, limits put on bank withdrawls. Then this past week they found out that he was in contact with the scammers again and sending/taking more money. So this weekend there was a family "intervention". Despite being presented with all the evidence and trying to work through it with my grandpa, although he says he believes that it is a scam one second, the next he isn't sure. Unfortunately they are setting up power of attorney and his bank account is flagged etc.... so if there is unusual activity, then the Power of Attorney is enforced and my aunt and my dad are in charge. Such a sad sad situation. He was always thrifty and did well and has a good pension. (my grandma died 10 yrs ago) but he's lost upwards of $30,000. It is so sad that people take advantage of the elderly this way. In a sense yes it is my grandpa's fault but he is just so brainwashed into believing he is getting this money. They send him fake paperwork from banks and such and he had to pay money to the IRS in order to get the funds released... Canada doesn't have IRS! One of the "witnesses" signature on a paper he was sent that guaranteed him the money is Elvis Prestley! This is what I don't understand. He kept every document, receipt and scrap of paper. There is a HUGE paper trail, (My dad spent about 5 hours scanning and copying it) and things like Elvis Prestley didn't tip him off. It is just so very sad.

uggh

I hope things go better, I haven't read the latest on your TR so maybe you have already done things regarding your dad, but I wish you luck! It is so not an easy situation.

So sad.

I always wanted double wall ovens in my kitchen too - until 2 years ago. We went to the local Home Show and saw a stove unit that had double ovens, I guess similar to Nini's. I have a 5 burner stove (with a griddle in the middle) and 2 ovens - a small one on top that we use most often (since its just dh and me) and a larger one on the bottom - super large. The only problem with the bottom oven is that the door opens almost at floor level. There is a rack that pulls all the way out so its easier to get to the roasting pan (or whatever). The rack can be moved to any position though. The other neat thing about this stove is that the cooktop is gas and the ovens are electric. I have a picture that I can post when I get home.

The problem I've always had with the wall ovens were the size of them. The ones I've seen have always been undersized.

As for the laundry room, I think your plan is fantastic. I need shelving and storage in my laundry room, and will get it eventually, however dh has been too busy with work to get to it :confused3.

If Josh does not want to come into a room to hang up his coat, how about adding a closet area behind the door to the outside in the garage? You would have to recess the wall into the laundry area, but this could be a solution to the problem. Not sure where your mud room is located though. :laundy:

That is the exact reason I held out as long as I could for my oven... I did not want the large one to be on the bottom. My lower oven is dual fuel...and the main oven is gas and convection. (so I guess that could be considered dual fuel as well...but not actually!)

The Marie bag is lovely!

You make me so jealous with all your great deals. We are lucky if there are sales and I hardly ever find coupons - the stores in my town don't put out coupons and I don't the big brands put out as many coupons in Canada :confused3

I like the shelves and cupboards in your laundry inspiration photos. I might have a lovely kitchen with a huge pantry and lots of counter space but my washer and dryer are crammed into a corner, and only way they fit is as stacked. It works, but your plan is much nicer!

this is probably going to cost a fortune....see how much money you save with a handy man....blessed

I have been loving your Pinterest postings lately. The first one of the laundry room....I want those colors in my kitchen! I am redecorating it this spring. It is very small, and I can't afford to do much more than paint and curtains, but I just love that soft blue and the glass backsplash is just gorgeous!

Before we bought this house 3 years ago, we were going to build. I had a blast with all the designs in Home Depot/Lowes. FYI....Lowes has a really great virtual deign thingy on their website under kitchen and bath. Or they did 3 years ago....

I really love my oven set up. In my main kitchen I bought a 5 burner double oven. One oven is 4 shelves super duper sized and the other oven is small... (actually to look at it you wouldn't know it was a double oven. Most people have a broiler where my second oven is) And then in my other kitchen I have a single oven. Electric oven there and gas in the main kitchen. Holidays it is REALLY nice to have three! We are thinking of moving it up to the main kitchen if we ever get around to remodeling my kitchen. That will make it much more convenient!

But I doubt that remodel will ever happen...hubby is ok with jobs that cost less than a thousand dollars...but once it gets over a thousand...he freaks out! Not exactly sure how he thinks we can do a kitchen remodel for under a thousand! LOL...especially when it requires the removal of a wall between the dining room and kitchen and reworking all the plumbing and electrical!

Nini

Yah - I am kind of freaking out about the cost of this remodel - it's about half the price of our house in the first place.

It sounds awesome to have so many ovens - but I think the only time they'd be used is on holidays... :confused3

this is awesome!!!!

Thanks!

Oh Erin - this is just so sad and awful... I can't even begin to imagine what your family is going through. I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers. Please let me know how things go.

I don't have any dad updates - we have been playing phone tag for 4 days now... :crazy2:

Your oven does sound really unique. I am not sure that I would enjoy using an oven that the bottom opens almost on the floor - that sounds kind of... Odd? I guess I would have to see it.

As for the laundry room, I think your plan is fantastic. I need shelving and storage in my laundry room, and will get it eventually, however dh has been too busy with work to get to it

I hope you get it soon. :thumbsup2

Excellent idea about the coat area out in the garage... I may acutally do that for items like snow gear.

The mud room is actually the laundry room/mud room - LOL It's just an all purprose room that I am sure will be the death of me someday. LOL

That is the exact reason I held out as long as I could for my oven... I did not want the large one to be on the bottom. My lower oven is dual fuel...and the main oven is gas and convection. (so I guess that could be considered dual fuel as well...but not actually!)

Nini

Interesting... My current oven is just electric and convection - but we use the convection all the time... especially if we want to cook 2 items at once, the fan really helps heat both items evenly. I do love my current oven - and if we decide to not do the double ovens (hello - that adds a cost of an extra $4k to our kitchen) - we will be keeping our current oven - which we just paid an insane amount of $$ to fix. :teacher:

The Marie bag is lovely!

You make me so jealous with all your great deals. We are lucky if there are sales and I hardly ever find coupons - the stores in my town don't put out coupons and I don't the big brands put out as many coupons in Canada

Thanks Tracy.

Erin says that too - which is just a bummer. I wonder why they don't do coupons like they do here?

I like the shelves and cupboards in your laundry inspiration photos. I might have a lovely kitchen with a huge pantry and lots of counter space but my washer and dryer are crammed into a corner, and only way they fit is as stacked. It works, but your plan is much nicer!

I am not sure I could do a stacked washer/dryer combo. BFF has that - and she likes it, but I am just not sure we could do that?

RUTHIE!!!!!!!!!! Gosh - you just have me cracking up all over the place today. Those photos are too funny for words!!!!

"spongy" thats the term I have been struggling to find to describe 2 spots in our kitchen scary I do NOT have a Josh in my life I have a "tool time Tim"
this is probably going to cost a fortune....see how much money you save with a handy man....blessed

Yikes... Yes, spongy is not a term that should be used to reference a floor - I know first hand. I wonder if there is an easy way to fix yours?

I know that Josh saves us a TON of $$ - I honestly don't know what we would do with out him? He doesn't do cars though - well, most things on cars anyways... So, we always pay tons of $$ to the mechanic.

I have been loving your Pinterest postings lately. The first one of the laundry room....I want those colors in my kitchen! I am redecorating it this spring. It is very small, and I can't afford to do much more than paint and curtains, but I just love that soft blue and the glass backsplash is just gorgeous!

I agree - I love those colors too - they are so airy. But I would be one who does the cabinets in white, then do the wall color to my liking. I am not sure I could do blue cabinets, because I would be so annoyed when they started to look outdated.

Before we bought this house 3 years ago, we were going to build. I had a blast with all the designs in Home Depot/Lowes. FYI....Lowes has a really great virtual deign thingy on their website under kitchen and bath. Or they did 3 years ago....

I'd love to just rip ours down and start over... :scratchin I am starting to wonder if that would just be easier and quicker?

**********************************************************

Josh is off of work all this week.... But I am not.

So, yesterday morning - this is the scene I walked into when I came down for breakfast - the reason this is sooo funny, is because Josh CONSTANTLY yells at the girls and I for babying MM and cuddling him on the furniture - he is not supposed to be on the furniture at all...

20130408_071204.jpg

LOL... Now I have photo evidence. :thumbsup2

I spent the entire day in my sewing room yesterday - I was able to get sooooo much done and I am so pleased with myself.

First - I totally finished my first BIG auction bag, and the accessories to go with it. YAY!!!! Then I also cut out and quited my next custom order bag this week - so I was able to totally catch up from my lack of working this weekend.

Today, I will start on my custom order appliques...

This afternoon, Josh and I have an appointment at Home Depot for our cabinets... I've never done this before - but I am so curious about what she comes up with - and most importantly, the price. I have a $ in mind that we've committed to stay under, so hopefully she can come in under our budget. Otherwise... Well... You know - I am a take it or leave it type person, and I have no qualms about leaving it, if it doesn't fit into my budget.

I've been stalking airfare... After the drop last week - I was hoping it would drop further, but it's still sitting there...

So, that's about all today...

I think I will do a Mini-Planner update shortly... I need to go investigate where I left off first. :coffee:

Have a wonderful day all!

D~

This will be our only DHS day... As of now - we plan to be in the park all day with out breaks...

This will be our only Typhoon Lagoon day - we are hoping to end the day early and relax at the resort for a few hours this evening.

I have D-cided that it is my job here to provide MO-re comic relief

Life is so hard sometimes and I can't really share much in the family aspects and the planning of creative projects (handmade or building projects) but if I can pop in here and make someone smile every now and then I feel I have taken your minds off of tough things for awhile then thats a good thing :thumbsup2

so if I find an open door about dogs or characters well I will squeeze through it and run with it Glad you like the pictures and the MM story of the pants

Glad I can sometimes make you laugh :goodvibes

Daisy's Reaction when I said " I Love you but are you aware that Fortune Telling is illegal in the State of Florida ? I think I saw the Sheriff's car outside"

Great picture of MM and Josh :lovestruc

How great that you got a lot done in your sewing room :cool1:
I hope you get the price you are looking for at Home Depot. Good luck :)

D~ too funny about Josh & MM on the sofa....snuggling. :rotfl: My dh is the same way, always telling us girls we spoil Dizzy. Reminding us he is a dog, not a baby. But you should see DH face light up when Dizzy jumps on his lap to sit & watch tv with him. :goodvibes

I love the mini's. We may actually be in DHS the same day & time. Before we leave we should exchange cell phone #'s. Maybe we can grab a snack together, or atleast meet each other in person.

Good luck at Home Depot.

Ruthie, I love Daisy Duck reaction to the sheriff!

I think this is another aspect of being a "Ruth(ie)" I'm the one who provides the lighter side of hard times for the family usually & most of the Ruths I've met (present company included, I suspect) usually get this little glint in their eye when they make someone laugh.

D~ That picture is so adorable. There's just something about a dog and his boy. One of the major reasons we have T is that he was a puppy of one of my in-law's dogs and my FIL had him chained up (long chain, but still...) and he'd cower away from everybody. Except DH . So when DH seriously started talking about having him at our house, how could I deny either of them. It took T some time to warm up to me, but now I'm part of the pack, but DH is still his boy. When he comes home T will literally push me out of the way to get outside to greet him.

Here is a picture of my stove. The microwave above is separate. The griddle portion in the middle is interchangeable with a rack. We use the griddle alot, and as I said before we use the top oven more than the bottom, but it really comes in handy when we have multiple cooks or multiple dishes. The bottom oven is also a convection oven.

I just realized the old microwave was still on the counter when I took this picture! We no longer have it since it did not work very well.
