~ Aug 2013~ Sew what... We've gotta find a way back! Part I!!

I WANT THAT PLANNER...it is too darn adorable.

We've done split stays, but we had our own car (can't remember if you'll have a car). We don't use the dining plan anymore as we don't find it advantageous or cost worthy for us (we use the Tables in Wonderland card instead).

All the hot boys, hmmmm? Maybe I should stay at POR. :rotfl::rotfl:

:rotfl2::rotfl::lmao: All the hot boys stay there!! That actually made me laugh out loud, luckily no one was walking by my office. I wonder where she got that information? :confused3

I love the mini planner! I'm not sure I have the time or skills to make something like that. I just put everything in Excel and then print and laminate.

So glad your girls are pumped about the RR at Riverside. I've never done a split stay, but that's because i never wanted to take valuable time switching resorts and I felt it was a better value to keep just one reservation since the tickets go down in price with each day added on. I may not be understanding fully how the split stay works, but it just seemed like too much hassle. When I'm at Disney, I like to be as hassle free as possible. And I totally missed the hot guys when we stayed there!!:rotfl:

Love, love, love the mini planner!! I have a Mickey Mouse notebook I got at Target that is my planning book. All my trips and notes and ressies go in that puppy. But I would love to do one like yours. So cute! I'm getting excited for you!:yay:

ETA: The wash cloths do work quite well. I don't even put mine in the freezer, but just having cold water on it helps. I keep one in a baggie an when it needs to be refreshed, just slip into the restroom and re-wet it. It feels so good to just wipe my face and neck periodically.::yes:: :cool2:

Subbing in. Our trips will overlap. I am not telling Marissa about the hot boys at the mansions. She won't want to leave the resort. I love your mini planner. I have no creative talent, much to my mother's dismay. She bought me a sewing machine when I was 21. Never taught me to use it. It sits in the closet. She is quickly trying to finish up all the unfinished quilts she has, because she knows neither daughter will be able to once she is gone.

Since it is my first trip to WDW, I think it would be fun to meet some people from the boards. So, I am keeping my fingers crossed that we will run into you at some point.

One thing we have found for the heat is chilly pads. They are a chamois like material, that you get wet, and the evaporation cools you. (rewetting them is the only thing I use the water fountains at Disney for!) (we found these at a sporting good store...look for a sale they are about $15 each)

Upside, they keep you cool, downside, your shirt gets wet.

I have an extreme heat intolerance (partially due to some strange meds). One trick we have learned, is to splash cool water on your wrists. (or cool wet cloth) If your wrists are cook, the rest of your body cools faster.

Somewhere I have the pattern for making the cool neck thingys...you use the gel for plants...they hold a ton of water and release it slowly. I never actually made them, but there are a lot of people that swear by them.

Remember to keep hydrated. One tip on that...any place in Disney that sells fountain drinks have free ice water...and the water is filtered, since it is used for the fountain drinks. If they only have drinks in bottles...keep walking!

When I was at the local Walmart yesterday, I noticed they had the water fans on sale for $4. They seem very bulky to carry (at least to me) and I probably would not be bothered.

I didnt use a mini planner in December and I missed itso I will be using one in March now to get it started:).

love that planner also IMHO When I have settled into a resort its now home never have done split stay

fwiw heat was brutal this summer bag check security CMs were simetimes suffering heat related illnesses one that I know personally actually collapsed at the tsble bam right down to the floor CMs discovered chilly pad/towel called Frogg Toggs think its about $20 camping section Wal~Mart beauty is stays cool few hours didn't get shirt wet and can be cut so that $20. item cut lengthwise could be used by 2 or 3 people easy have it myself works with cold water no freezer necessary

I work 11 pm -7:30 am like the meals/restaurants you picked EXCEPT
LTT used to be a favorite hate it since no longer a character meal just not the same to me

I have had lunch CRT never had brkfst there have you ?
Hope you get chance to do BOG

okay tty all soon off tonight but been up since 8 pm last night & starting to feel punchy plan is to watch Modern Family with a nice glass of wine & call it a night

I wonder if Disney has a field for requesting "the hotel with the cute boys" in their reservation system. :rotfl: At least you know what your teenage daughters find important. I think your plan sounds great. I don't think I would want to change hotels but since those two are so close it probably wouldn't be so bad. I wouldn't want to to leave those royal rooms, they look so cool.

Remember to keep hydrated. One tip on that...any place in Disney that sells fountain drinks have free ice water...and the water is filtered, since it is used for the fountain drinks. If they only have drinks in bottles...keep walking!

Do you find that the water from the fountain drink systems in MK tastes funny. Last time we were at CP the ice water tasted yucky to me.

I do not drink ice water at restaurants in Disney! Yucky water is something I cannot abide by! LOL...but the fountain drinks use filtered water...no swampy taste!

I am very sensitive to the taste of water due to some meds I am taking.

Nini

D I am okay just lazy.
I thought you were pregnant.:rotfl: Does anything slow you down?

D-so excited that you were able to book a trip!!! Too funny that you'll be staying were all the hot guys go.:lmao:

I've never done a split stay. I wouldn't want to have to pack up and be room less during the split. I don't see how it can work for if you want to do DDP for your entire stay.

Love the start of your mini planner.:thumbsup2

:rotfl2: I love it.... I want to stay were the "hot" guys are. But we did use the POR pool in 2009 and I didn't see any hot guys :rolleyes1 Only a father and teen boy that kept wrestling in the pool:furious:

For those of you that don't know, my Dis friend (PoisonApplePrincess - Stephanie) introduced me to her mini-planner and I fell in love. It is just the most perfect thing to keep all of our plans organized in the park, and the size is just right.

All it is, is one of those cheapo $1.99 plastic photo albums that you can buy at Target, and you fill it up with all of your plans. For me, I build all of my templates in Photoshop, and print them at the Photo Lab as 4x6 prints... I think my whole planner last year, cost me under $7. And because it was so small, I just threw it in my UPB every day, and it worked like a charm! Because I printed it on 4x6 paper, it was quite durable, and the plastic pages kept it water proof... Loved it, and plan to do another one.

So... Last night, I sat down and made up my main calendar page. You will notice that it looks very similar to my March 2012 calendar page... Most of the photos for the backgrounds came from the internet or my camera, however, quite a few of the others (and the main balloon background) are photos I used with permission from an amazing photographer here on The Dis: Dznefreek - Jim is always so nice to let me use his photos for this purpose. :lovestruc

Anyways... Now, you will notice a lot of blank spots... This calendar will be revised again (and again) before we leave on our trip... I am just guessing on which ADRs we want on which days, as you all know, my ADR date isn't coming for another 6 weeks, so I still have time to iron it all out.

Yes, those big ones are, IMO, unwieldy. Especially when they're full of water! Here's what I use and I also got them at WalMart:

Even though they're small, they don't need refilled all that often. I love mine!

YEA for making a decision!! :woohoo::woohoo: August was the wisest decision with the girls getting older, IMHO. Missing school becomes harder and harder and a this gives you more time to slow down and really enjoy.

I posted a lot of heat surviving ideas over on LovethatTinks thread, Lisa and David both have Dysautonomia/Autonomic Issues. And then after I answered her I thought of a few more things we do and posted on our TR. Heat is a bear, but doable...with planning and a LOT of breaks for us.

Congrats on booking! I love your mini-calandar, thought it looks giant on here. What a great idea.

Thanks Tink - we are super excited to be booked again.

:thumbsup2 LOVE the mini-planner! Can't wait to hear more.

LOL about the hot guys comment. I'll have to keep that in mind when my daughter gets older and still wants to go to Disney!

Thanks!

I figured you all would love the "hot guys" comment. :rotfl2:

Thanks Kathy!

I am a bit worried about that split-stay... I am going to crunch some numbers, hopefully today and tomorrow to see if it's even something we can do... It will really depend on our meals and our tickets.

I have a feeling there will be a rush of reservations at POR by teen age girls everywhere. It's too bad that when they get there - the resort will be too full of girls and no room for the "hot guys". :rotfl:

All the hot boys stay there!! That actually made me laugh out loud, luckily no one was walking by my office. I wonder where she got that information?

I love the mini planner! I'm not sure I have the time or skills to make something like that. I just put everything in Excel and then print and laminate.

Yah - I have no idea where she got the "hot guys" thing from? It's not like she has ever been on The Dis. And we were only at the resort for a few hours last time... :confused3

Lots of people have made the Mini Planners, and each person that has done it has done it differently... As long as it can fit into that 4x6 plastic album - that's all that matters. You could do yours with scrapbooking paper and a marker just as easy as doing it digitally. I just can't stand the mess of actual scrapbooking - and I like my Photoshop - so this way is my preferred method. Besides, sometimes it's just nice to sit here and do a mind numbing activity like that... and this time it will be easier, because I have all the templates done. When I did my original March calendar (like the Aug one above), it took me weeks to do... but then I just opened the March one on Tuesday, did a few edits and moved a few things around - I was done in less than an hour. :thumbsup2

So glad your girls are pumped about the RR at Riverside. I've never done a split stay, but that's because i never wanted to take valuable time switching resorts and I felt it was a better value to keep just one reservation since the tickets go down in price with each day added on. LOL... I totally get that... I am not sure I want to do a split stay either.

Part of the reason I am a bit nervous about POR is just the largeness, but now that I have poured over the maps, I think I have it figured out. Because of our room and the category we are booked in (RR, Pool view) - there are only a few rooms that we can be put into (thanks to Andre's maps on the POR website)... Looking at those, and looking at the sattelite photos of POR and FQ - our walk will be very similar to our walk at FQ. The food court will be further, but it shouldn't be too bad? Especially if I can short cut through the main building.

Love, love, love the mini planner!! I have a Mickey Mouse notebook I got at Target that is my planning book. All my trips and notes and ressies go in that puppy. But I would love to do one like yours. So cute! I'm getting excited for you!

Thanks Lois! No worries, I have a notebook too... LOL Everything goes into my notebook, then I put it nicely into the planner and try to condense the info.

ETA: The wash cloths do work quite well. I don't even put mine in the freezer, but just having cold water on it helps. I keep one in a baggie an when it needs to be refreshed, just slip into the restroom and re-wet it. It feels so good to just wipe my face and neck periodically.

Do you just use the ones from the resort? Or do you bring your own?

Subbing in. Our trips will overlap. I am not telling Marissa about the hot boys at the mansions. She won't want to leave the resort.

WELCOME! :) LOL - I am worried about the same thing... I think Alli will be slightly disappointed when she finds out that all of the "hot guys" are 6 y/o. :rotfl2:

I love your mini planner. I have no creative talent, much to my mother's dismay. She bought me a sewing machine when I was 21. Never taught me to use it. It sits in the closet. She is quickly trying to finish up all the unfinished quilts she has, because she knows neither daughter will be able to once she is gone.

Thanks! There is still time to learn... I self taught myself a little over 2 years ago... Everything I learned was out of the manual, online tutorials and youtube. If you have the interest - I suggest you give it a try, it's a lot of fun!

Since it is my first trip to WDW, I think it would be fun to meet some people from the boards. So, I am keeping my fingers crossed that we will run into you at some point.

I would love to do a meet up! :) I live for Dis meets when we are in WDW. I am sure we will bump into each other at some point... especially if our dates overlap and we are both at POR.

I will google these, and see what I come up with. Thanks Nini - as usual, you are THE BEST!

I have an extreme heat intolerance (partially due to some strange meds). One trick we have learned, is to splash cool water on your wrists. (or cool wet cloth) If your wrists are cook, the rest of your body cools faster.

I have heard that too.

Nini

Yes! I did know this - but I did forget too... I also carry our Britta filtered water bottle with us - so we can use the drinking fountains from anywhere on property, and the water tastes great!

Just wanted to say I'm Back!!! Congrats on being booked!!!!

Welcome back Sandra! I hope you had a wonderful trip! I hope you'll tell us all about it.

When I was at the local Walmart yesterday, I noticed they had the water fans on sale for $4. They seem very bulky to carry (at least to me) and I probably would not be bothered.

I need to look for these - I haven't gotten that far yet.

I didnt use a mini planner in December and I missed itso I will be using one in March now to get it started.

That's good to know... I think I would be lost with out ours, especially when it comes to tracking our meals for the ddp... the best thing I did was budget them out each day - I never used our checklist, not even once.

love that planner also IMHO When I have settled into a resort its now home never have done split stay

This is kind of my feeling too... We like to spread out. We never unpack when we are in resorts - we live out of our suitcases, but last time it was a disaster because I packed a little of everything into each suitcase - so we couldn't find anything for our whole trip. Then, on our 2nd to last day, as I was trying to organize to leave, we sorted everything by person - and it made our last 2 days soooo much easier. This time, I will just pack one person in each suitcase.

fwiw heat was brutal this summer bag check security CMs were simetimes suffering heat related illnesses one that I know personally actually collapsed at the tsble bam right down to the floor CMs discovered chilly pad/towel called Frogg Toggs think its about $20 camping section Wal~Mart beauty is stays cool few hours didn't get shirt wet and can be cut so that $20. item cut lengthwise could be used by 2 or 3 people easy have it myself works with cold water no freezer necessary

That is horrible! I hope they are OK? I will look for those Frogg Toggs... That sounds like a bargain if we can share them.

I work 11 pm -7:30 am like the meals/restaurants you picked EXCEPT
LTT used to be a favorite hate it since no longer a character meal just not the same to me

LOL :) I understand, but we LOVE their pasta and can't seem to miss out on it when we are there. We have only ever been there for lunch - never dinner.

I have had lunch CRT never had brkfst there have you ?
Hope you get chance to do BOG

I am pretty sure we will be OK with BoG... Since I will be able to book with the 180+10... Hopefully anyways.

I don't think I would want to change hotels but since those two are so close it probably wouldn't be so bad. I wouldn't want to to leave those royal rooms, they look so cool.

I wonder if I put that as one of our requests, what would we actually end up with? LOL

I think you are right. We have 2 full days scheduled off - and we are planning to swim at FQ for one of them. Honestly, I think because we will have the quiet pool right out our door - I don't think the girls will be that upset... Part of the reason they liked FQ so much is that they could go to the pool anytime to swim.

Do you find that the water from the fountain drink systems in MK tastes funny. Last time we were at CP the ice water tasted yucky to me.

I do... That is why I purchased a Britta filtered water bottle (avail at Target)... They are a bit spendy - like $10, but they come with a filter and they do make the water taste good. I swear by them.

I do not drink ice water at restaurants in Disney! Yucky water is something I cannot abide by! LOL...but the fountain drinks use filtered water...no swampy taste!

I am very sensitive to the taste of water due to some meds I am taking.

Nini

Me too Nini- and I don't take meds. We lived in this house for 5 years before I even tried the water out of the tap... I was quite surprised when it actually tasted good. LOL

I thought you were pregnant. Does anything slow you down?

I don't think there is anything that slows Chiara down. :worship:

D-so excited that you were able to book a trip!!! Too funny that you'll be staying were all the hot guys go.

Thanks... I can't wait to see all these hot guys.

Love the start of your mini planner.

Thanks! Yah - I am really uncertain about the split stay, especially since so much factors into it. I know lots of people do it and love it, just not sure I am one of them?

I love it.... I want to stay were the "hot" guys are. But we did use the POR pool in 2009 and I didn't see any hot guys Only a father and teen boy that kept wrestling in the pool

**********************************************************

No big updates for today... Worked at Target yesterday.

Today, I hope to get a little of our trip planning worked out. Then I will be appliqueing all day. I hope to have this bag finished up by tomorrow evening. For sure by Saturday though.

I hope you all have a wonderful day! :lovestruc

D~

You had me laughing so hard at the 6 year old hot guys comment!!:lmao::lmao:

Yes, I take the wash cloths from the room...dont tell the management!!!:rolleyes1 So every day is a fresh cloth.;)

I found the fans on the same shelf as the bigger misting fans. They were sort of lost among all the bigger ones, but I rooted around and found two. This was two or three years ago. I did see some last year at the beginning of the season, so I think they still carry them. But I also think they go quickly, so I'd start looking pretty soon.

Here are a couple of websites with instructions on how to make those cool ties for your neck:

http://www.p2designs.com/ShipCooler.htm
http://www.watersorb.com/polymer_cool_neck_bands.htm

Hey, why don't you create a version of your UPB with the strap being one of those cool ties in disguise. You can make it detachable so you don't have to have a wet strap when you don't need it. Okay, so I'm kidding. Sort of. Probably.

Hope you get a lot done today in your sewing room. I'm doing laundry and cleaning house...I'd MUCH rather be sewing!!!!:crazy2: :faint:

we definitely do not do a resort stay the same I unpack everything asap put things in dresser hang things up toiletries on sink in a little bin if theres a refrig the top becomes snack central coffee pot lives there too did it with 4 of us then 2 then solo I move in less stressful for me to know where everything is & it all stays neat & put away

I do much the same as you. Only now I take disinfectant wipes to clean the drawers before putting my clothes in them since I read on the DIS that people use the dresser drawers for their dirty laundry!!!:scared1::scared1: Just sayin'.:rolleyes1
