~ Aug 2013~ Sew what... We've gotta find a way back! Part I!!

Hope your day at work isn't too hectic and that you get the deal on the Brave movie :goodvibes

My menu is that same, and we are only having 6 people... I wish we could do a Thanksgiving day swap, similar to a Christmas cooking swap... Everyone makes one thing, then we divide it up. Thanksgiving is one of those meals where you want all the favorites, but making all of it is just soooo much food. :confused3

D~

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving and fun day at Target. We did a sorta swap this year and it worked out perfect. We went to my brother and sister-in-laws house. I was in charge of pies. My mom did the Turkey and stuffing and my sister-in-law did all the sides and also did a ham. Then we all brought our own take home containers and divied up all the leftovers. It worked so great that we already decided to do the same for Christmas!

Hey D,
Sorry I haven't been around for awhile. Hope you had a good Thanksgiving and was able to get everything you wanted for Black Friday. Talk to you soon.:thumbsup2

Hope you are having a wonderful Thanksgiving! Thinking of you all while I'm at work, but I'm sneaking in some Dis time. :rotfl:

All you prep sounds so yummy, and the pie looks super yummy.

Sorry to hear about V injury but sounds like she is getting better.

Congratulations on your council seat! Good for you for taking that on and doing it the right way. We had elections in my town this year, a friend of mine ran and she was short 2 votes from a seat! I was disappointed because it's quite an old boys club on council, she would have been a breath of fresh air and she is so active in the community I thought for sure she would get in.

Then they will both want their own!

Thank you! :) Bummer about your friend not getting elected - I think she needs to try to run again at the next election.

Wegmann's is a unique place. It is a HUGE grocery store with tons of gourmet items, a large cafe and lots of prepared foods. But their prices are great. It is like having the best of both worlds when you go grocery shopping. They have wonderful inventory and low prices. They also have very helpful clerks. Customer service at one near our house is usually great. The butcher actually talked to my friend for 20 minutes about what cut of meat she should buy and helped her pick something out.

The Christmas stocking turned out great! What are you planning to put inside it????

And the pies look delicious!!!

Thanks Diane. Wegmans sounds awesome... Sounds a little like my home town grocery store. :thumbsup2

I wanted to tell you that you and your DH are in our thoughts and prayers. :grouphug:

The stocking and the pies both look great. That pie is making my mouth water. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Thanks! Josh does make some mean pies! :cool1:

D hope your day is goes well and isn't filled with crazy shoppers.

Thanks Chiara! It was a good day, overall.

I too am at work today, but where you have less then spectacular weather, we have a balmly 65 degrees and, for the morning, sun. So my job is relatively easy: be back up for my staff if necesary.

Hope your day was quick, painless and you were able to snag Brave.

I wish we had weather like that. Our Thanksgiving started out at 60 deg, and in a matter of hours, plummeted to about 20... It's been cold ever since. I guess I should expect it - but I sure don't have to like it. LOL

Hope your day at work isn't too hectic and that you get the deal on the Brave movie :goodvibes

Thank you Lillian!

See, that is awesome! I wish we had enough family to be around to do that for Thanksgiving this year, but it was just us.

Hey D,
Sorry I haven't been around for awhile. Hope you had a good Thanksgiving and was able to get everything you wanted for Black Friday. Talk to you soon.:thumbsup2

CORRI!!!!!!!!!!!! So glad to see you back on The Dis! I have missed you... Now, if we can get Liddy back here... :rolleyes1

**********************************************************

I had a pretty good day at work yesterday.

I left about an hour early for my shift - so I could catch any deals that were left. My main objective was Brave for $10... Which I did get. :thumbsup2 I was kind of shocked that we had any left at all.

I also grabbed a couple of stocking stuffers for the girls and a couple of movies. Then, the other night, I was chatting with V in her room, and she told me that her DVD player hasn't been working for months. So, I grabbed one of the $19.99 Black Friday DVD players for her for Christmas. I also grabbed one of the $60 Itunes card packs that were on sale for $50 (I wasn't planning on getting one of those, because we never have any left that late in the day).

Then I grabbed some wrapping paper. I am ususally a wrapping paper snob, and normally only buy Hallmark paper - but I haven't purchased any in the last few years (and Kohls stopped selling it years ago - I used to be able to get it really cheap there after Christmas)... So, I decided to try some of Target's "premium paper" - to see if I can make the swtich.

And finally, I was really done shopping, then I happened upon the jammie section, and I couldn't resist getting the girls and I some cute Disney jammie pants... V is getting Minnie, A is getting Mickey and I found a pair that actually had Donald on them! WHOOT! I couldn't believe it - I would rather have a pair of real Donald jammie pants - but this will do for now. I've been looking for over 3 years!

FB_IMG_13536708484519001.jpg

And I think that was the extent of my BF shopping.

I had a few crabby people - mostly people who wanted us to ad match for BF - but Target made the decision that they wouldn't do that (and they haven't done it for BF in the past)... Lots of people angry that we were out of the TVs/Ipods/Ipads that were in the BF ad... C'mon people, It's noon on BF and we opened at 9pm the night before, do you really expect these things to still be here???? However, I was quite shocked that when I left at 2:30pm, we still had about 10+ of the $99 Nikon cameras left... I actually had one in my hands for myself, at one point, and then I remembered that they take AA batteries, and that's a deal breaker for me, I won't touch a camera that doesn't take LithIon batteries. Such a bummer, because it was a good deal - that camera had an awesome optical zoom.

Today, my next door neighbor and I are doing our annual Christmas shopping trip. We do this almost every year, and we have a lot of fun. No kids allowed! :cool1: We leave early in the morning, and typically, we are gone ALL DAY! I really need to get in the shower shortly, because we are leaving at 7:30am. We always go out for a nice lunch/dinner... It's just a lot of fun. I am so fortunate to have such good IRL friends too!

I got my list all gathered last night, and I am actually very impressed with myself... I only have about 5 more people to shop for, and a couple of GCs to get yet, then I am totally done with Christmas shopping. Josh and I made the decision to take a couple of people off of our list this year - just because it was getting to be too much - and these are people that we have not seen or heard from in a couple of years - even if they are family.

At what point do you stop giving gifts to people? Just curious what opinions others have.

Tomorrow, we will be going to chop down our Christmas tree - this should be a fun year with MM. Josh said that when he was letting him outside yesterday morning - he was having a fit... He had never seen snow before... LOL I wish I could have been here for that. Josh said MM was sitting on the edge of our back deck just barking at the snow blowing off of our roof. :rotfl2:

I hope you all enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend! :thumbsup2

D~

That is so funny about MM barking at snow. Daisy did that it was hilarious. Then again Daisy barks at airplanes in the sky.

We are going shopping. too. I need some new clothes ;)

We only shop for our immediate family. though I wish we could take some of them off too. My kids don't get anything huge since we buy them things all year long.

I also have a price limit as to what I will spend on certain people :) Like my brothers family is $20 per child because they are unappreciative (though for my oldest niece and nephew I will do $40) because the are appreciative. I am *****y like that.

Have a fun day.

What a great shopping you did last night. Todays shopping trip with your friend sounds like fun. Hope you get the things that you have on your list.

I only by Christmas gift for a few people. I don't buy gifts to family that I never see or hear from. I haven't started my Christmas shopping yet. I'm going to make a few home made gifts (I do it every year) and I'm going to buy gifts for some. I'm making roasted almonds and I'm decorating some candles.

I'm so far behind on all my subscriptions. Bummer you had to work Black Friday, but I bet time passed by quickly. My son had to work, but dh took the week off since his parents were visiting us.

The stocking for Max is so cute! And those pies...yes please!:thumbsup2 Thanks for the mashed potatoes recipe, I'll have to try that some time. Glad you had a great Thanksgiving! The only glitch in mine was when my Mom was trying to make the gravy and she totally messed it up. Beyond saving. As her Alzheimers progresses, she's has trouble following recipes...even the ones in her head, and lots of other things, but she was sure she could do the gravy . It was so sad and I was so sorry I asked her to do that. She always wants to help so I thought that would be a safe thing for her.:sad2: I couldn't care less about not having gravy, it was just the look on her face when she didn't know how to fix it.:guilty:

I loved working BF that one season I worked for Kohl's! I've never had a day fly by like that. Ever. I started at 4AM and worked 8 hours. Tons of fun. Glad you didn't have too many nasty people. There are always a few, unfortunately. Glad you scored so many things you wanted. I didn't shop this year, but spent time with my family while I could. My daughter and her family just left this morning and my son and his wife will be leaving tomorrow. We've been playing lots of games and watching Christmas movies. Lol about GWTW! Can't believe you've never seen it! It is looooong! But it's good. If you get a chance to watch Dear Santa, that's one of my latest favorites. It was new last year and I really like it, even though it's predictable. Aren't they all?

Your shopping trip sounds fun. I guess that's what you're doing as I type this. Hope you have a great time and find lots of good bargains. Only 30 days until Christmas!:santa:

Have a fun shopping day! Hope you find all you want ! Cold here too! I guess winter has come!

Thanks for the positive thoughts and prayers. We won't know exactly what's going on with dh's health for another 10 or 12 days. It is hard to wait.

I love the pj pants. Were they part of the Black Friday deals or just an awesome find???? My kids love those fuzzy pj pants and I give them pjs and slippers every year for one night of Chanukah gifts. it is a tradition.

It is funny that you put the camera back because it took AA batteries. I actually prefer that over the LithIon batteries. I buy the long lasting camera batteries and I love that I don't have to recharge them. I can just throw a couple of new batteries in the camera and keep taking pictures. I did buy my girls a camera for one of their gifts. I got an awesome deal on a GE point and shoot with a 15x zoom lens. It got decent reviews on-line and the price just couldn't be beat!

I hope you are having fun on your big shopping day and that you get lots of great stuff! I love having a girls' day with my friends and going shopping all day long.

:goodvibesGlad Black Friday wasn't too bad. I only went to Joanne and though it was mobbed they had so many people working I didn't have to wait too long.

But I did do alot of shopping online and I have to say I love my REDcard. I just signed up for it the other day and love getting the free shipping on everything.

Looks like you got alot done on BF. Those PJ pants are too cute. I get my kids pj's every year for Christmas and let them open them on Christmas eve. Than they are wearing their new PJ's on Christmas day when they open their presents. It's a tradion from when I was a kid.

I am hoping that Liddy comes back soon also. I know there is a possiblility that she will be able to go this next year after all s hopefully she will come back when that is definate. As for me I me I am getting really excited because I get to make ADR's on Tuesday. WooHoo.

I ventured out on thursday night to Walmart (had a toy that Liam really wants for almost half off). It was absolutly nuts there. I witnessed a man scream obsenities at a worker just because she asked him not to go through an area that was ropped off. Not cool. Glad you didn't ave anyone yelling swear words at you.:)

I wish I had the time to make home made gifts for some people. Next year, I really want to make Josh's brother and his wife a set of Christmas stockings. There is no way I would get them done in time this year, I wish I would have thought of it sooner.

I'm so far behind on all my subscriptions. Bummer you had to work Black Friday, but I bet time passed by quickly. My son had to work, but dh took the week off since his parents were visiting us.

Glad to see you caught up... I got your text yesterday - trying to pinpoint where you took the photo at... I was thinking Epcot?

Glad you are able to spend some time with DH over Thanksgiving.

The stocking for Max is so cute! And those pies...yes please!:thumbsup2 Thanks for the mashed potatoes recipe, I'll have to try that some time. Glad you had a great Thanksgiving! Oh Lois - I am so sorry. It's not easy when someone with Alzheimers starts to forget how to do things they once knew how to do. Josh's Grandmother suffered from Alzheimers and it is such a devistating illness.

I agree, BF is my favorite day of the year to work... and honestly - I love working through out the Christmas season - it's that horrible lull after Christmas - that seems to drag on for months, that I hate.

I am so happy that you were able to spend some time with your family. I will look for that movie - I just LOVE Christmas movies!

Your shopping trip sounds fun. I guess that's what you're doing as I type this. Hope you have a great time and find lots of good bargains. Only 30 days until Christmas!:santa:

I did have a great time! Not a ton of bargains, but everything I purchased was a pretty good deal.:thumbsup2

Have a fun shopping day! Hope you find all you want ! Cold here too! I guess winter has come!

Thank you Ruth! I've been thinking of you. I know you go back to work soon. I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Thanks for the positive thoughts and prayers. We won't know exactly what's going on with dh's health for another 10 or 12 days. It is hard to wait.

I can't imagine how hard it must be on all of you to wait. Do the kids know yet? Or are you waiting to tell them until you know more?

I love the pj pants. Were they part of the Black Friday deals or just an awesome find???? My kids love those fuzzy pj pants and I give them pjs and slippers every year for one night of Chanukah gifts. it is a tradition.

They were on sale for BF, but I don't think that they were limited time thing? I've never had the really fuzzy ones like this before, I hope they aren't too hot.

It is funny that you put the camera back because it took AA batteries. I actually prefer that over the LithIon batteries. I buy the long lasting camera batteries and I love that I don't have to recharge them. I can just throw a couple of new batteries in the camera and keep taking pictures. There are people that definately have an opinion, and most people either go one way or the other for the batteries. The only reason I prefer LithIon batteries is that I never have to purchase AAs... I just keep recharging. I alway purchase a second LithIon battery when I get a new camera - so I can have one charging and one in the camera. With my current camera - I actually have 3 batteries, because I purchased a 3rd before our last Disney trip.

I have not tried the long lasting camera batteries before... How long do they normally last? I can usually get about 200 photos out of my LithIons before I need to recharge... However, If I leave it powered on after I finish uploading the the pc :rolleyes1 Well, I don't get quite as many. :headache:

I hope you are having fun on your big shopping day and that you get lots of great stuff! I love having a girls' day with my friends and going shopping all day long.

Thank you - I did have a lot of fun! I have another one coming up (it was short notice) on Tuesday at the MOA... My aunt and cousin and I are meeting up for our annual shopping day. Since I don't have much more to purchase - I am mostly going for lunch. :thumbsup2

I didn't touch Joanne's - I've been doing my best to stay away from there. :rolleyes1

I love online shopping... It is just the best. ;) Especially if the retailer takes Paypal, it just makes my life so much easier.

I love my Red check card too - that extra 5% savings is awesome!

Looks like you got alot done on BF. Those PJ pants are too cute. I get my kids pj's every year for Christmas and let them open them on Christmas eve. Than they are wearing their new PJ's on Christmas day when they open their presents. It's a tradion from when I was a kid.

I love your PJ holiday tradition. I've never done anything like that with the girls. However, they do get PJs every year - so I could have. :confused3

I am also excited that Liddy might be able to go back. I'll bet your are excited for your ADRs!

I hope you were able to get Liam's toy despite the madness. Yah - that's not cool - some people are just rude and vicious.

I got those same PJ pants because they had goofy on them! They were $15 (I think)

~Jennifer

They are so cute! Aren't they? Yah - I love that they had Goofy on them, I debated on getting the same ones for V - but I wasn't sure how she would feel about having matching PJ pants? I think at regular price they are $15. :thumbsup2

**********************************************************

Kristin and I had a great time yesterday... We left at promptly 7:30am... Our first stop was Caribou for some amazing coffee and a breakfast sandwich.

We did a few stores where I grabbed a couple of stocking stuffers for Josh and the girls (seriously, the girls need NOTHING else, yet I keep seeing cute little things for them - I need to STOP!)...

We also stopped at the dollar store, where I got a few things to organize thread in my sewing room... This would be my sewing thread and not my embroidery thread. :thumbsup2

We stopped at the Lands End outlet... We both agreed that last year was much better - there was definately more to choose from. However, I did manage to find a nice work shirt for Josh and I found a fleece vest and a shirt to go under it for myself to wear for Christmas... My total for those 3 items was $36, which I didn't think was too bad.

I purchased a couple of gifts at Target...

We stopped at Hallmark for wrapping paper... I am going to return the wrapping paper I purchased at Target the other day. Target's was $5 for a 25 sq ft. roll... And Hallmark was $7.99 (BOGO for $1.00 - so $4.50/roll) for 90 sq ft. And I love Hallmark paper!

We treated ourselves to Red Lobster for lunch... I dunno.. :confused3 I am not as huge on sea food as I used to be. And even though I ordered lobster - it just wasnt that good this time. Although - I did order crab, and after my fiasco at Cape May Buffet - I am very happy to report that this series of crab cracking went much better... I only had one episode where my crab shell fragments went flying. :woohoo:

We hit Barnes and Noble, so I could purchase the last of my books for gifting.

We arrived home just at dusk (which now a days is about 4pm).

After we got home, Kristin had given me some ideas for Josh's dad for Christmas gifts - he stumps us badly every year - so I bounced them off of Josh, and he thought they were great! So, we got the ball rolling with that, and ordered the part that will take the longest to arrive, and we will order that other part next week. Super happy to have his dad crossed off the list - because we had NO idea what to get him. :thumbsup2

Dinner last night was a free for all with another round of Thanksgiving leftovers. I wasn't hungry - so I just had some of Josh's pecan pie for dessert later.

We had so much fun and I am so happy to report that I am almost done shopping. Just a few minor things to buy, and a couple of GCs. :beach:

Today, we will be putting up the tree. Normally we cut our own, however, Josh's back has been bothering him for several weeks - so, I think we are going to the next town over and supporting the boy scouts this year. :thumbsup2 We purchased from them last year too - and we were very happy with our tree.

Of course - putting up the tree means dragging all the holiday bins up from the basement... And also keeping MM out of the way...

Speaking of MM - the girls were telling me that yesterday there were some kids sledding on the hill across the street (which isn't good because a: there is no snow to sled on and b: there's a busy road at the bottom of the hill) - but MM saw them... The girls said he was standing on his hind legs for about 10 seconds just watching them. LOL He spends a lot of time in his hind legs lately, because the girls taught him how to "hug" a few weeks ago - so it's kind of funny that he would just stand up and balance there for so long. :rotfl2:

Anyways - I hope you all have a wonderful day with your families today, and those of you traveling have a safe journey.

D~

Wow D! I am so jealous that you are almost done Christmas shopping. I have barely started. I am the same way with stocking stuffers especially for my DD. The boys are not as easy but I always find way too much cute girl stuff!

I know Christmas will be here soon. Perhaps I will venture out today when we get home and try to put a dent in my shopping but I have no ideas for anyone INCLUDING the kids. We are still on the train on our journey home but should be home before lunch. Can't wait to see all of our furbabies again! Amazing how much I miss them. Enjoy your day!

So jealous you are almost done shopping.

I think we may put the tree up today also.

Glad you had a good time shopping as well as a productive one. I went to Target Friday evening because I needed milk and managed to find a few things I wanted for Christmas. I totally forgot to check out the jammies! I was so bummed when I got home and remembered. I wanted a new set to wear at Disney (in 3 days!!!:yay:).

I know what you mean about finding things and not being able to resist. Every year I say I'm cutting back, and every year I can't seem to stop myself from picking up "just one more thing" for everyone. Especially the grandkids!

Now that Thanksgiving is over, I can concentrate on our upcoming trip. Dan is bringing up the tree today and I may get it decorated today as well. And I'm hoping to get my Christmas cards addressed today, so that's out of the way. Hope you have a fun shopping trip when you go to the MOA. There has been many times I've gone "shopping" just to go to lunch!:rolleyes1 Enjoy!

sounds like a great shopping trip was had! hope MM behaves with the tree and decorations!

we finished decorating the house yesterday, my cards are ready to go, all presents that I've bought are wrapped and under the tree....just have to figure out for my FIL and still have my BFF 2 boys to buy for....it feels wonderful to have most of my stuff done so I can just relax and enjoy the season! we have stuff going on every Sat from here on out

what to do on a lazy Sunday afternoon & a day off from work Clean the house or catch up on about 9 pages of this ptr No brainer can't wait to catch up :goodvibes D I sent you a PM when you have time sorry kind of long Ok off to read Ruthie

Congratulations on the election and hoping for cooperation with your fellow electees.

That Mickey had me cracking up...he's so fierce! I like the stripes on the outside and the fun fabric on the inside.

I actually feel like I've accomplished something in my sewing room. I put the waistband on a skirt that I had laying around for about 6 month. It'll only be another month or so before I finish it.:rotfl2:

I haven't posted my first name, but it's Ruth. Every time you reply to Restrasz, I do a double take. :)

thats' so funny I hardly ever meet another 'Ruth' and now D has 3 ofus following her on Dis !I don't care for the name personally and only go by Ruthie even though I love the bible book that bears our name
