~ Aug 2013~ Sew what... We've gotta find a way back! Part I!!

Yum...I can't wait to go home today and start making pies! I'm a little nervous about the turkey, but I know my desserts will be great. :thumbsup2 I figure that if the turkey comes out dry and overcooked....everyone will have more pie ::yes:: I'm making a dutch apple, a cherry crumb, a bourbon pecan and of course my famous pumpkin cheesecakes. Yum yum yum. Is it time to go home yet???

Oh...and did I mention this is all for 6 people?? Yeah, who needs turkey anyway...

:rotfl: spent 4 days holed up in her room last week, but its done except for cutting some vinyl letters and waiting on some prints to get here to frame and hang up, will post photos when its all done!

MM stocking is cute! and those pies look very yummy!

OK...

Sorry for slacking over the last few days...

I think this is everything...

MM's stocking (please ignore the dusty China cabinet - which doesn't hold China). V drew out his "M" for me:

20121120_104819.jpg

And the Make Ahead Mashed Potato recipe:

10 Large Potatoes
1 C (8oz) Sour Cream
1 pkg (8 oz) Cream Cheese
6 TBSP Butter
2 TBSP dried minced onion
1/2-1 tsp Salt
Paprika

Note: Must use a potato masher - not a mixer... A mixer will make this recipe very runny and turn it into potato soup.

Boil peeled potatoes, mash, add sour cream, cream cheese + 4 TBSP butter. Spread in greased 9x13 pan, melt remaining butter and drizzle over potatoes. Sprinkle paprika over potatoes. Refridgerate covered or bake covered at 350 deg. for 40 minutes. Uncover and bake and additional 20 minutes. IF refridgerated, let stand at room temperature for 30 minutes prior to baking.

Then, I just had to take pictures of Josh's pies... They turned out gorgeous! V laid out all the crusts for him, and cut all of his strips.

HAVE A HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Love the stocking!!

The pies look delicous!!! The potatos sound good may have to try them sometime soon!!

Happy Thanksgiving just in case I dont get back on here tomorrow!!

I hope V continues to improve. I felt for her navigating the bus and more with those crutches (been there, done that). Glad she is off of them and just has the aircast.

How long is a term for the city council? Four years? This will be your second or third term? I looked you up, I didn't realize your town was so small, I would love that. :goodvibes Everybody knows everybody. Of course, that can be good or bad...:rotfl:

I have made that potato dish before and a very similar sweet potato dish, they are both yummy. I know you will enjoy all of the dishes, including Josh's pretty pies.

That pie looks very yummy:goodvibes

And can't wait to see what Santa will put in MM's adorable stocking.:lmao:

Love the MM stocking. I just have ones that I ordered off the internet for my dogs. Even though I'm not a fan of pie, those look delicious!

I don't know that I will get on the DIS tomorrow so....

Happy Thanksgiving!

Have a wonderful time with family tomorrow. I will probably be packing, cleaning and hanging Christmas decorations.

Thanks Ariana!

And I hope you have an amazing trip! :thumbsup2 I know that we will be putting up our tree this weekend - probably Sunday. Both Josh and I work tomorrow, Saturday I am going Christmas shopping with my neighbor and Sunday we'll do the tree. :scratchin

:lovestruc MM's stocking is soooooooo cute! V did a great job with the M!

Josh's pies look delicious as well. Your food list sounds divine. I think I want to come to your house for Thanksgiving, is that okay? I mean, you DO owe me after crashing so many of our movie nights...just saying.

D~, I hope you and yours have a fabulous Thanksgiving!!!!

Thank you. You are always welcome at my house Oopsi... bring the fam! :thumbsup2

the pies looks delicious.

LOL I know... Josh did pecan last night, and then he had the nerve to tell me that I could only have ONE piece. :confused3 Seriously? How am I ever going to choose?

Yum...I can't wait to go home today and start making pies! I'm a little nervous about the turkey, but I know my desserts will be great. LOL I love your Thanksgiving philosophy.

My menu is that same, and we are only having 6 people... I wish we could do a Thanksgiving day swap, similar to a Christmas cooking swap... Everyone makes one thing, then we divide it up. Thanksgiving is one of those meals where you want all the favorites, but making all of it is just soooo much food. :confused3

I love max's stocking! It's perfect! Pies look yummy! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Thank you Ruth - I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving as well.

:rotfl: spent 4 days holed up in her room last week, but its done except for cutting some vinyl letters and waiting on some prints to get here to frame and hang up, will post photos when its all done!

I love your Make ahead Mashed potatoes and the stocking is just so adorable.

Thanks! Yah - I did 2 batches again this year... I hate running out of potatoes, and not having enough for leftovers.

Sorry...I got behind again because we went to see the kids this weekend out of town.

I'm sorry about V's ankle...hope it is improving some for her.

I love your stocking...it is so pretty.

No worries Kathy - I am super excited for your upcoming trip - and I definately can't wait to hear how the surprise goes off!

V's ankle is much improved, she's been taking it slow with out the air cast for the last day... I have a feeling that she will be back to normal by the end of the holiday weekend. Thanks for asking. :)

And thanks about the stocking... Someday, I hope to make a cute stocking/tree skirt set for us - but by the time I get around to it, the girls will be moved out on their own. :rotfl2:

MM's stocking is perfect!

Happy Thanksgiving one and all!!!!

Thank you Ruth! I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving, as well.

I hope V continues to improve. I felt for her navigating the bus and more with those crutches (been there, done that). Glad she is off of them and just has the aircast.

Thanks! She seems to be getting better... Yesterday she managed slowly with out her air cast, hopefully by the end of the weekend, she will be back to normal.

[How long is a term for the city council? Four years? This will be your second or third term? I looked you up, I didn't realize your town was so small, I would love that. Everybody knows everybody. Of course, that can be good or bad...

Well, that is a loooong story. Back in "the day", before our Town adopted the uniform State code, we had 4 City Council seats... 2 of them with a 4 year term, and 2 of them with a 2 year term. Which is bad. You should never, ever have the ability to have a full turn over on a Council. This last spring, when we adopted the current State Codes, we realized that our Council could potentially experience a full turnover. So, we contacted our attorney and she urged us to run a special election this year, so that our seats were once again staggared. So, all 4 City Council seats were open for election this last election. 2 of them were the regular 4 year term, and 2 of them were special elections for a 2 year term. By doing it this way, the next election for the current special election seats, we will then turn those into 4 year terms, and once again they will be staggared.

So, since my seat was under a special election, I will be taking my oath for a 2 year term (this will be my 3rd term). If I decide to run again - my seat will then be a 4 year term.

I've edited this portion out, as it was only my intention to leave it here long enough for Judy to read.

So, I am sure I must have bored you to death, but maybe you understand now, why it has been so hard for me to let someone take over, when we (as a City) are just finally getting our feet back under us. And to have someone potentialy take over my seat, who was the person who single handedly wrote or former Codes, it really would have been a big set back to our community.

Small town, or large City - it does't matter - IMO, everyone needs to have laws to govern - and when they don't meet basic code - things like this happen.
[I have made that potato dish before and a very similar sweet potato dish, they are both yummy. I know you will enjoy all of the dishes, including Josh's pretty pies.

Thank you Judy - I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving, as well.

That pie looks very yummy

And can't wait to see what Santa will put in MM's adorable stocking.

Thanks Michelle! :) I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving, as well.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Thank you Chiara! (((Hugs)))

**********************************************************

Well, I managed to finish all my Thanksgiving prep yesterday. Josh also made 3 more pies last night (2 pecan -1 of those for work- and 1 Pumpkin)... I can take or leave the Pumpkin... but the pecan and the Cranberry/Raspberry - TDF!!!

Then, last night, Josh and I sat up and started watching Gone with the Wind. It's a movie that I have always wanted to see, but never have. I didn't make it to the end, so I plan to sit down shortly and watch the last 3 hours. ROFL.

We all slept in this morning... Josh is now hard at work in the kitchen making the requested "double, double" batch of his AMAAAAHZing Cranberry salad... We love that stuff!

My dad and brother should be here around noon, and we will probably watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade... Hmmm... I need to see what time that airs, so I can record it if necessary. We will also munch on appetizers.

Dinner will be around 3-4pm... We'll probably play a game of Farkle after, then dessert.

Both Josh and I work all day tomororw.

So, I hope you all have an amazing Thanksgiving filled with family, friends and many blessings.

Hope you are having a wonderful Thanksgiving! Thinking of you all while I'm at work, but I'm sneaking in some Dis time. :rotfl:

All you prep sounds so yummy, and the pie looks super yummy.

Sorry to hear about V injury but sounds like she is getting better.

Congratulations on your council seat! Good for you for taking that on and doing it the right way. We had elections in my town this year, a friend of mine ran and she was short 2 votes from a seat! I was disappointed because it's quite an old boys club on council, she would have been a breath of fresh air and she is so active in the community I thought for sure she would get in.

Someday, I hope to make a cute stocking/tree skirt set for us - but by the time I get around to it, the girls will be moved out on their own. :rotfl2:
Then they will both want their own!

I have never heard of Wegmans. I wonder if it is like our Byerley's here? I love shopping there - carpeted floors, chandeliers - it's so relaxiing.
D~
Wegmann's is a unique place. It is a HUGE grocery store with tons of gourmet items, a large cafe and lots of prepared foods. But their prices are great. It is like having the best of both worlds when you go grocery shopping. They have wonderful inventory and low prices. They also have very helpful clerks. Customer service at one near our house is usually great. The butcher actually talked to my friend for 20 minutes about what cut of meat she should buy and helped her pick something out.

OK...

The Christmas stocking turned out great! What are you planning to put inside it????

And the pies look delicious!!!

The stocking and the pies both look great. That pie is making my mouth water. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Sorry - no time for replies this morning...

I am up extra super duper early for my Black Friday shift at Target. Whoot!

I am also hoping to leave a bit early - just in case there are any deals left... The only thing I really want is one of the $10 Brave movies.

We had freezing rain and snow last night, just a dusting, but enough to make it slippery - I am sure.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

D~

I too am at work today, but where you have less then spectacular weather, we have a balmly 65 degrees and, for the morning, sun. So my job is relatively easy: be back up for my staff if necesary.

Hope your day was quick, painless and you were able to snag Brave.
