~ Aug 2013~ Sew what... We've gotta find a way back! Part I!!

Glad to know someone thinks I am BRILLIANT! LOL!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

OOPSIE...just text me info...I will probably be working at the store a lot from now to the end of the year...tis the season! :thumbsup2

HURRAY on figuring out mailers! that is so good to know that they have those for free. I will need to keep that in the back of my head for future use! (I mail things to family fairly often, plus for Big gives!)

And I'm glad you clarified about the tissue paper because I DID think you were going to have to spend $2K on them! That's a LOT :faint: And of course I'm late, but I think your bags are so fabulous that it doesn't matter WHAT they come in (so long as they can't be damaged in transit like by water). As a customer, I want my purchased item to arrive safely, but I prefer it to be economical instead of pretty because I don't want to pay extra for something that I'm just going to turn around and throw away/recycle, kwim?

HURRAY for bids on your auction bag already!

I totally LOLed at the thought of you sewing shorts for all the doggies to wear on next year's hunting trip. If you do you MUST take a pic! HA! Glad that MM is feeling a bit better. Hopefully his tummy will chill out soon.

And OH the suspense! I can't wait to hear where you finally decided to stay. You know if you tell us then WE can help you decide which room is best ;)

The new mouse bag is great. Always such amazing attention to detail.

Don't know nuttin about that Facebook stuff, but I'll take it on good authority that something wowful is happening there, too.

I'm especially looking forward to the SSP housewarming present you're making for when I move in next door. (Hope I didn't spill the beans.)

:drive: <----Mapquest says to head west. I'm hoping I'll know your house when I see it.

Glad Max is feeling better and that you found a solution for your shipping delima. :thumbsup2

The reason I asked about Target is, I was thinking about getting a seasonal job there this year. I worked at Kohl's about 3 years ago for Christmas, and enjoyed it a lot, but I'm thinking if I work, when will I have time to sew the things I want to sew? I'm just so spoiled sitting at home while hubby goes to work every day.:sad2:

I'd KILL for this!!!! I want to be a stay at home Mom!!!!

Thanks so much!! I like your bag choice too... Only a few more weeks.

So close yet still so far!! :cool1:

MM update: He is starting to do much better. He was very lethargic for a few days there - constantly licking his male parts and making them even more raw. We didn't have him in the cone constantly - only for a few hours after we put his medicine on. I still don't think his tummy is quite right, he has not been eating well, unless we mix canned food with his regular food. The other morning (Monday?) - he threw up a large hair ball... So I am pretty sure that his tummy issues are coming from all the licking he is doing? Yesterday, his "crazy man" personality was starting to come back again, and he was much more playful/annoying - like he usually is. HOpefully that is a sign that he is starting to feel better.

Glad that MM sounds like he's doing better.

Auction update... I have a few bids, which was a nice surprise. I am always leary of putting my items out there, it is the ultimate pass/fail scenerio. Either people will like it and bid, or they won't and I fail. So, I am very happy that I have a few bids, and I am even happier that most of them are from people who already own one (or more) of my bags. That is a true testiment that they like them, or they would never come back for more. That makes me happier than anything - honestly. It reassures me that people truly do like what I make. :flower3:

Thanks for the reminder. I do love the bag and can't wait for my turn which is coming up fast!!

I'd KILL for this!!!! I want to be a stay at home Mom!!!!

I love being a stay at home mom!! But I will say it is nice to also have some me time so I sell Mary Kay on the side. I get out for some me time and make a little extra money on the side for the family and trips!!

Oh my D~! You continue to amaze me with your creations. I really like your latest bags. I love the Sorcerer Mickey applique! And your auction bag is so cute. I saw that and immediately wanted to start baking my Christmas cookies! ::yes::

I've been following along even though I haven't posted in awhile. I found your DVC research very interesting. I thought about DVC after our last trip, but it doesn't make sense for us either. Partly because there are so many other places we want to experience right now. Partly because the distance for us makes it impractical to go every year budget wise.

I can't wait to hear what you have decided on for your split stay next year. I can't believe that you are holding out on us though! Like Michelle said, we are going to hound you worse than your girls. :teeth:

Poor MM! Hoping he recovers quickly. :goodvibes

Hey you!!!! I have't seen you in ages! How are you? How's the family?

BUt see, as of now, my girls don't even know that we are switching resorts - so they can't hound me if they don't know. :cool1:

I so badly wish I could justify DVC... I guess, part of my doesn't want to dive into it, because if there are ever years that we can't afford to go, I just don't want to commit to that. :confused3

I'm glad MM is doing better, it's so hard to see them hurting!

I honestly don't care how my bag comes, just so I get it! I would say go the cheapest route possible to save money. The bags aren't breakable so shipping in a box seems a little overkill to me.

LOL I like to wrap my bags in tissue paper though - For most, my bags are a splurge - and an expensive one, I think that wrapping them in somthing adds to the gift presentation. Does that make any sense? So, I don't mind going a bit cheesy on the envelopes (for the time being - I still hope to ship them in boxes one day), but I would like to get some nice (thicker) tissue paper, so that I can wrap them a little bit, and make them look pretty. :goodvibes

First...we have stayed at all the moderates except for POR. We were supposed to stay there in Sept, but we changed for Novemebr and CSR. The only one we will not redo is CBR...because even after their recent 'updates' they still have the plain double beds... and we prefer the queen size from the other mods.

That was a dumb move for CBR with keeping the double beds.

Last year at POFQ we were upgraded (not by choice) to to a corner room with both a river and pool view. (I had thought all those were king rooms, but evidently not!)

Which building were you in?

Our only bad experience was at CSR... but it was not totally their fault (how they handled it WAS their fault) But we are giving them another shot this year.

I agree, that was an awful experience.

Now, as to the bag packaging issues..

I can so relate! I spend almost as much time packaging the dresses as I do to make them (almost...what an exaggeration!) And I know they still end up arriving squished and seriously needing a good pressing. I hate that! But, to remedy it, would cost me at least $10 more than I pay now...and I hate to charge more for shipping... KWIM?

However, as a recipient of your gorgeous bag...I truthfully ripped that sucker apart! I couldn't wait to get into the bag! (imagine Christmas morning!) So I had to think for a minute about how you had it packaged!

The only time I notice how something is packaged when I receive it is if it is damaged. So I am totally no help at all...because I know I am strange!

Leave it to you to not remember how I sent it. LOL Maybe you are in the majority and all my obsessing doesn't matter at all? LOL

I agree - I am positive my bags arrive needing to be pressed. I guarantee you all that the last thing I do before I package my bags is to press them, and then I lint roll the entire thing too, inside and out.

I would never charge more than I do for shipping. Unfortunately, I charge my average price to ship... Sometimes - depending on where it goes, it's significantly cheaper, and sometimes it's more, so it just all comes out in the wash. I wish I had the time to individually calculate shipping costs for everyone.

As to MM...unless the ointment/medicine is completely gone when you take off the cone it could be making him have tummy issues. Even after it is dry...it is still there...so licking it will get it in his mouth.

Think about it...it if only worked when it was wet...you would have to keep reapplying every few minutes!

Nini

Very true Nini... He is almost back to his normal self - harassing the girls every moment of every day... A true 7 y/o brother in every sense of the word. LOL

Glad Max is feeling better!

My opinion on the packaging? My only concern is that the more elaborate you go with the packaging, it may ultimately affect your bag pricing. I am embarrassed to point that out, but it was my immediate thought. I am very excited to finally get to order a bag. It has taken this long due to the fact that I am SAVING to get the bag. This is a treat for myself, and very out of the ordinary for me to get ANYTHING for myself. So, if packaging causes a price increase with the bags, maybe others like myself will not be able to have one of your beautiful creations.

I agree, I would never charge more for shipping my bags. And I totally understand that my bags are a splurge gift for most people, and they are expensive - I soooo wish I could charge less for them.

I think my post was a bit deceiving yesterday... that was 2k worth of tissue paper, not $2k worth of tissue paper... LOL I would never spend that much on tissue paper... that's like 20 bags... I was having a fit about spending a total of $150 on tissue paper and boxes combined (tightwad anyone?)... That's still 2 bags...

I am still so glad that you are getting a bag - it will be worth it, I promise!!! :cheer2:

happy to hear MM is feeling better!

the new bag is cute!!

hmmm resort choice - AKL savannah view!

packaging - stay with the bubble envelope and regular tissue, keep your costs down!

Thanks Lisa... For everything. :goodvibes

I am like Nini...I just wanted that puppy out when I realized it was a package from D~!!!:rotfl2:

That being said...have you looked into sending them priority mail versus regular mail? If you do, it may cost a little more in shipping, but the boxes are free and you can order them online and have them shipped to your house. I suspect that the regular shipping price is not a whole lot different from the priority price once you factor in not having to purchase the envelopes, plus you can print postage off your computer and have USPS pick up from your house!

As nice as the tissue is...it is just one more layer between me and a D~ original! LOL!;)

Lynn

LOL Lynn! You are so brilliant!!! Thanks for making me look further into it... I looked several months ago, but all I saw at that time was the flat rate boxes - and those are so expensive, compared to what I usually spend.

And LOL about your tissue feelings...

You like this whole secrecy thing a lot don't you lol! I am not very good at keeping them so kudos to you!
LOVE the coach charm oh so precious and so sweet of your friend!
The bags you have snuck pics of are both so awesome! LOVE the new sorcerer mickey! Good luck with your auction !!!

Yes, I love being secretive!

Thanks - I love that necklace too!

And thanks for all the compliments. :thumbsup2

totally love the Socerer Mickey Bag.

On packaging it really depends on you. Have you seen if your bags will fit in priority envelopes they are free from the post office and they have flat rate padded and non padded.

I generally ship my sets in those unless I have a larger order and then it goes in a flat rate box.

also if you ship priority you can schedule a pick up at your house so no post office trip.

I talked to G last night and told him I want to do an October trip next year and he was seemingly okay with it.

You are a genius too Chiara!!! Thanks for pointing me in this direction. I even tried to rip one of the Tyvek bags last night, and I couldn't do it - they are very durable!

Yay for an October trip!!! I saw you changed your PTR title! :thumbsup2

Glad to know someone thinks I am BRILLIANT! LOL!

OOPSIE...just text me info...I will probably be working at the store a lot from now to the end of the year...tis the season! :thumbsup2

You are!!

So jealous that you and Oopsi get to meet all the time.

LOL Yah - I figured there might be a little confusion there. :rolleyes1

Well, water shouldn't damage them too badly - they are washable... I am more concerned about ripping - that would be very BAD. And I agree... I hate packaging material... especially packing peanuts... I've actually stopped ordering from a few companies that use them, because they annoy me so much. LOL

HURRAY for bids on your auction bag already!

Thanks - I am very happy that I Have a few bids. :thumbsup2

LOL... I am wondering if a package of boxer briefs would do the trick? Then I can just sew a button hole in the back for their tails... :laundy:

nd OH the suspense! I can't wait to hear where you finally decided to stay. You know if you tell us then WE can help you decide which room is best

Sunshine

I am sure you all could help me decide... Trying to figure out the best place with in the resort is almost as bad as deciding about which resort to stay at in the first place... I think I have it narrowed down now though. :thumbsup2

The new mouse bag is great. Always such amazing attention to detail.

Don't know nuttin about that Facebook stuff, but I'll take it on good authority that something wowful is happening there, too.

Hi Cheryl!!!! :yay: Can't wait until you move in next door - we will have so much fun!!! Slumber parties... Just don't tell Rod how many Dorrrines I have over here... He'd probably pack your things for you... :rolleyes1

I'm so far behind..
SO glad to hear about MM feeling better!!!

and HAPPY FRIDAY!!!

You aren't that far behind, I promise... We just talk a lot - that's all.

MM is almost totally back to his normal self. :thumbsup2

I hope you had a good Friday too!

Glad Max is feeling better and that you found a solution for your shipping delima.

Target is good for a seasonal job, when I was hired there over 6 years ago, even though I wasn't hired as seasonal, I told myself that I wouldn't be there past Christmas... I am still there. :confused3

I agree - I am spoiled too that I get to sit at home and make my bags most of the time. I am sure I will be working more at Target over the next couple of months though.

I'd KILL for this!!!! I want to be a stay at home Mom!!!!

I was a SAHM for a few years when the girls were little, and off an on as it was necessary (like when DH was deployed)... It's nice for a little while, but it does get boring - that's for sure. And we sacraficed a lot of other things for me to stay home... Family nights out - eating out in general - going places because gas was expensive... It was definately a time of basing our lives off of needs and not wants.

Thanks for the reminder. I do love the bag and can't wait for my turn which is coming up fast!!

Yes, it is coming up fast - I have all your fabric washed and ready to go. :thumbsup2

I love being a stay at home mom!! But I will say it is nice to also have some me time so I sell Mary Kay on the side. I get out for some me time and make a little extra money on the side for the family and trips!!

I used to sell MK... I love their stuff. Do they still have Satin Lips? (that is the BEST)

Sooo... My auction is going well, I am pleased with how it is going. :goodvibes Today is the last day, and it closes this evening.

I shipped out my bag order for this week, so I plan to work on my SSP for the rest of the weekend. I still have a lot to get done, and my time is just about gone. I was thinking about it today, and I have about 3 weeks to finish up... I have 2 large orders in there - so this weekend is the last time I will get to really devote some good time on it, the rest will be done during evenings and weekends - if I get done with my custom orders to allow for that. I am very excited to be able to tell you all about it, because I have been working so hard on it for so long.

I've been able to narrow my building request down to two... I hope to be able to book my trip by the end of November, but because of the holidays, I may have to wait until after Christmas. We will see.

All of my best park days are now out on TP, and I've been able to plan our park days out, which is huge, because that allows me to make our resort reservations - I want to be able to swap resorts on the morning of our MNSSHP day - it will just make it easier, because we are only planning a late breakfast ADR for that day, no parks until 4pm. I am very happy with how evenly our park days are distributed through out our trip... This time, we don't do any more than 2 days in the parks with out some sort of break. :goodvibes

The tentative schedule looks like this:

Fri, Oct 11 - Fly
Sat, Oct 12 - AK
Sun, Oct 13 - Epcot
Mon, Oct 14 - MNSSHP (morning off)
Tues, Oct 15 - MK
Wed, Oct 16 - DHS
Thurs, Oct 17 - Off
Fri, Oct 18 - MK
Sat, Oct 19 - AK
Sun, Oct 20 - Fly

All of our AK and MK days, I plan to do mornings in the park - then take a break, then back in the evening. This will not work on the nights there's MNSSHP, so I will have to coordinate this better when those official dates are released, and there may be some day swapping going on there. The only day that can't be changed is our DHS day - since that is the only day there with decent crowds our entire trip. We'll probably also split our day up in Epcot, so we have a break.

I hope you all have a wonderful day today - and a fantastic weekend!

D~

Sooo. winning the lottery it is!!!:lmao:
SAHM is a dream.. it will never happen.
my dream is to own my own Dog training facility... But first MOVE OUT OF CHICAGO!!! :dance3:

I was going to post an option about the shipping but then the BRILLIANT mention of the USPS flat rate option was mentioned and I did a mental face-palm. I don't sell anything (yet) but I do a lot of craft swaps and those things are awesome & quite versatile.

I have a question about your appliques: how flat are they? Do you think a large mug would be secure on a multi-layered one? On a single layer fabric, obviuosly, not a bag.

For the resort, I'm going to guess. . . . .AKL. Y'all love AK, it seems a natural fit. And I know. . . you are not at liberty to divulge that information at this time:rotfl2:

I like your schedule. It is going to kill me not knowing what the MNSSHP dates are. How far out do they make those dates public? I wasn't planning this trip until just recently, so I didn't notice when they announced the dates this year. I am hoping that we have enough $$ to do the party twice....once for the trick-or-treating and parades, fireworks etc and once for the rides with no lines. But we'll have to see...

Are you guys going to do Food & Wine at all?

Quiet day on the boards yesterday... :wizard:

I am not sure I undertand your question??? A mug - as in a real coffee mug? Or a mug, as in a flat fabric coffee mug? Or none of the above? LOL

You are right... I cannot divulge that information. :rolleyes1

I think the actual MNSSHP dates are released in May. But from what I have read, they usually stick to roughly the same schedule as the years previous. The party is expensive - I believe it's up to $60ish per person? I know we will only do it once.

We probably won't do F&W at all... We may try some of the snack stands out while we are in Epcot for our one day, but we've been for F&W twice now, and never really cared for it. :rolleyes1

So, in between sewing yesterday, I did a bit more trip planning.

First of all, I wish I could participate in the ongoing thread about which resort we are staying at, but if I do - you all will know where I am staying... It's killing me to be in "lurk mode" over there! :rolleyes1

I did some figures though... Some really good figures...

DDP for the girls and I for 9 nights would be 1598 + tax + tips (we brought $250 for tips last year)... So... Roughly about $1951 - 10% = $1757 - 5% = $1668

OOP dining for the girls and I for the entire trip (including refillable mug, tax and tips) - this is for sure one sit down meal per day and one CS meal per day and all of our favorite snacks multiple times = $1566 - 10% - 5% = 1339

I did those figures for 2 reasons... First - I really wanted a detailed list of what we would potentially eat, and from our trip last year - eating 1 TS, 1 CS and 1 snack per day (roughly) - I knew that this was the right amount of food for us. So, it was easy to look at the menus and just kind of pick off what we would usually eat - if I wasn't sure, I just picked the most expensive thing x 3. LOL

So, now I know - even though I don't want to... All of our food will be OOP. I don't want to have to carry all those GCs around - so I think I will have them add them to our room keys upon check in? Do you think that would work? Then I can just use our room key to pay for our meals. :confused3

And now that I know our food will be OOP - I am hoping for a good room discount.

Staying where I want to stay, the room discount would be the better deal.

Question: Does anyone know, if I purchase a refillable mug at my first resort - can I use that same mug for my stay at the second resort (same trip)? I may have to go look in the resort swapping thread to see... Just thought I would ask here first.

My auction ended last night, and I am very happy with the price it fetched. :goodvibes I was a bit shocked, and it still makes me nervous to think about it - so I am trying not to. I don't think that this is an "average" auction price that one of my bags would reach - I do think it is a bit skewed, because it was my only holiday bag for this year. I would think that any of my other bag auctions would stay at a more reasonable price?

Today will be devoted to my SSP again... My deadline is fast approaching, and I don't think I am going to finish nearly what I wanted to finish. Which kind of bums me out, because I really worked hard, but I am just running out of time. I will have to be OK with it, and just keep working on it when I can.

I will have a bag to show you all today or tomorrow... I didn't want to show it while the auction was going on, because I didn't want any confusion.

I hope everyone has an enjoyable day today. :wizard:

Quick drive by (because I really need to get the kids up and jump in the shower!)

MNSSHP tickets...you CAN get them a bit cheaper...military discount...this year for September they were 37 ish and for October they are 41 ish. They are not for every dates...so you would have to wait for the list to be published... and the October dates are not usually released until September (I know not great for planning purposes...)

But when buying multiple tickets it can really save a ton!

Nini

I'm pretty sure they don't let you apply gift cards unless you owe a balance. I applied mine late after a park one night a few days in, when there was no line and no one to give me evil looks, but I only had about $500 worth.

I think there is controversy on reusing the mug at the next resort, but I also think its still considered the same stay, so I would do it.

And yeah! for the auction success!

I loved the sorcerer bag!

And can't wait to learn of the SSP!

Congrats on your auction being such a great success. No surprise for anyone but you!:rotfl:

It's always good to crunch the numbers to see exactly what is the best option for your family. What you did was exactly what I do when needed.

I have bronchitis and am just spending my time watching Christmas movies. This is my second day on meds, so hopefully they'll kick in soon. I would rather be sewing.

D~ I am sending you a pm! ;) Some info about the resort I THINK you are planning for...

Lynn

Yes, it is coming up fast - I have all your fabric washed and ready to go. :thumbsup2

I used to sell MK... I love their stuff. Do they still have Satin Lips? (that is the BEST)

Yes they do!! I agree it is the best!!!! Want to sell again? It's only $75 until the end of October to sign up and get the kit!!! lol j/k

Sooo... My auction is going well, I am pleased with how it is going. :goodvibes Today is the last day, and it closes this evening.

Yeah I wanted said bag but knew that my day was coming soon and really couldn't go much higher.

That is awesome Nini... Do I have to buy them at SoG, Disney, or somewhere else?

I thought I read somewhere that you could apply GCs? Hmmm... Maybe not, maybe what I read is that you charge to your KTTW card and pay it off with GCs? Regardless - I could do my diniing that way. It would save me the confusion of carrying multiple GCs with me, and being afraid of losing them.

I did read in the official resort mug post, it seems to be OK if you are doing it for 1 continuous trip and just swapping resorts. It is something I will double check with my new resort when we get there, just to be certain. If they say it is OK - then I will reuse, otherwise, I will rebuy.

Thanks for all the compliments and info -- it really helped. :thumbsup2

Thank you Lois!

Yah - I've been crunching #s like a crazy person... Last night, I figured that FD is a better deal if you stay at a Moderate resort (considering that we are 3 adults on DDP)... The % off is better (I think, I haven't completely crunched those #s yet) if you are staying Deluxe. I also plan to crunch the Values - of course AoA suites are a different story.

D~ I am sending you a pm! ;) Some info about the resort I THINK you are planning for...

Thanks so much Lynn... I got your message and replied. :thumbsup2

ROFL - DH would leave me for sure if I came home with more MK stuff. Totally understand about the Holiday Cookies bag... It went much higher than I expected it to.

Well, I am done trying to figure out which resorts we are staying at. I know what I want to do, and how I want to do it. I've decided that however much $$ I have in my Paypal by the end of the year is my resort budget. So, I will book at whatever resort I can afford. However, if codes are released later that make something else a better deal - I reserve the right to switch. :wizard:

I worked all day yesterday on my SSP. I didn't get as far as I hoped I would when the weekend started, however - I did get further than I thought I would when I went up there yesterday. :thumbsup2 I still have so much to do - and I am starting to panic a little bit. My own personal deadline is Nov 2... Less than 2 weeks away. I don't have to finish everything I want to, but I hope I can. I am just going to be working like crazy "after hours" to get as much finished as I can. Once I am done with this - I can relax a little bit.

I've scheduled myself "off" for TG week, which is good - because I usually do all the prep work for the TG meal, while Josh does the pies and all the "day of" cooking. I am so fortunate - I wouldn't know what to do with a bird???

I"ve also scheduled myself "off" for the last 3 weeks before Christmas, I would never be able to make anything and guarantee holiday delivery after that time. Those are my weeks, so that I can make some gifts for the girls and Josh, I am also hoping that I have the time to squish in a couple more things, but those can wait right up until the last minute, because they aren't technically for Christmas. :rolleyes1

Today, I am starting another custom order. I don't work at Target at all this week, so I have ample time in my sewing room. That is probably the only thing saving the SSP right now. :wizard:

I hope you all have a fantastic Monday... Stay tuned later this morning - I will have a new bag to show you all from last week... I didn't want to show it while my auction was running and create confusion. :thumbsup2

D~ <--- Who promises it's my sewing room that leans to the right and not my bags... Sigh.
