~ Aug 2013~ Sew what... We've gotta find a way back! Part I!!

If it weren't for all that nasty lint everywhere, that would be a beautiful bag!:lmao::lmao: I think the lint must be on your eyeballs, cause I couldn't see any. And I really looked!:rotfl: You just crack me up. I especially love the black fabric some with dots and some without. Nice effect. And of course your work is impeccable as always. Stunning!:thumbsup2

I love how Pluto's tale is a ribbon. 3D effects like that are awesome, in my humble opinion.

I finished the applique part of DH's Mug Rug (when I finish putting it together I'll probably post it somewhere...it's Marvel related and Disney owns Marvel, so it's not really off topic.) And I know that the back of it isn't anywhere near as pretty as yours. Heck, the front of my applique isn't as pretty as the back of yours.:lmao:

It's addicting, hand appliqueing. I now have two more projects lined up and will probably make a third. And I want to find more to do. I need to find a way to make this addiction pay, like you have.

You and Josh are wonderful parents. And...if you think about it... V and Alli are the best anniversary presents any couple could have.

Love the Pluto bag. For some reason the pictures on my phone were showing as a ? in a box, so I couldn't see them yesterday when I tried. On the laptop, they show! Beautiful bag!

When we tried to decide if using 2 dining credits was worth it or not, we found that CRT is equal to about 1 and a half credits. If you are going somewhere that is cheaper than the normal one credit then it makes more sense to pay out of pocket.

You can book using the credits and then make your decision at the time of the actual meal...we did.

I agree - I've just been too busy to crunch those #s... but I will. :thumbsup2 The problem is, I would have to pay for 2 meals OOP - and I think at that point, it would be cheaper just to pay for CRT OOP? We do end up using all of our dining credits, and I am pretty sure we won't be doing DxDP - that would be waaaaay too much food for us - DDP is almost borderline too much food for us. :rolleyes1

I am totally in love with the Pluto Bag. I love how Pluto pops.

Thanks Chiara! I've been thinkin' of you. :flower3:

LOL Lois - I just swear I see lint and threads every time I look at my bags. LOL And thank you. :thumbsup2

Thanks! :) Please let me know when and were you post it - I am curious to see what a mug rug is - I think I know, but I am not sure?

I agree - I LOVE had appliqueing, it is addicting. Only because with an embroidery machine, you are totally confined to what the digitizers create - and then so is everyone else - and then everyone else has the same things you do. With hand applique, the sky is the limit, and you can do just about anything. :goodvibes

I am not sure that we are the best parents... I like to think we are good parents, and the girls like us (most of the time)... But your anniversary gift comment had me chuckling... Alli was actually a wedding gift. :rolleyes1 And V was actually Alli's 1st birthday gift... :rotfl2: Well, sort of. :dance3:

Thanks Tink... And thanks for coming back to look... :thumbsup2

I spent my whole day in my sewing room yesterday... I was trying to modify my GAC pouch. There are things about my first version that I don't like, so I tried a second version yesterday... Let's just say my entire day was wasted, because my second version didn't turn out at all. :scared: I've decided to leave well enough alone, and move on with other things today. I really would like to make a few more GAC pouches though... :thumbsup2

I plan to be in my sewing room all day today and tomorrow... I hope to get a lot more accomplished than I did yesterday.

Last night, we went out for dinner with our good friends/neighbors - we had a lot of fun, and perhaps a bit more wine than necessary. :crazy2: But we always have a good time with them.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

D~

I can't wait to see what you come up with on the GAC front. I love your idea and it would make like so much easier with a pouch the GAC actually fit in.

Have you ever flown Southwest before? I really love flying with them, though I always get ansty when it is time to check in for the boarding passes. I buy the EBC so I have a better shot of getting an A boarding pass.

I love how the colors of Pluto pop on the black of this bag - I quilted it in the same color of green as his collar, which was super nerve racking at the end, because I had about 18" of thread left on my spool... :faint: Talk about cutting it close. :worship:

And I swear I lint rolled this bag, but because it was such a dreary day, I had to shine my work light on it - and it sure doesn't look like I did any lint rolling at all... But I promise - all the lint you now see is just your imagination, because I pointed it out. :wizard:

OMG....that is just adorable

How close are you to MHT (Manchester)? SW is really cheap from there to MCO. We are 2 1/2 hours away from MHT, but we always drive down because it is so much cheaper than Portland. And it's so much better than the Boston traffic.

:headache: Manchester would have been about 2-2.5hrs away and I checked but since it is April vacation in most of NewEngland everything is out of our price range (I actually checked every airport from Portland,Me to Newark,NJ :rolleyes1 and found the Long Island one to have the best prices on direct flights for SW )

That price savings on flights is amazing!!! So worth the drive and with SW - you can check two bags for free per person. Comes in handy for all those customs!
:rotfl2: Yes we always bring two bags each with us. Magical Express must love us when we come with all our 10 bags:lmao:

Yah - I still want to tweek it, but I don't know when I will find the time now? I think I am, for sure, going to change the orientation of the zipper - having it on the short end like I have it on the pirate one, just makes it a bit tough to reach your hand into the zippered portion - you can definately dump it out, but unless someone's hands are small, it's a bit difficult - and I don't like that. So if I put the zipper on the long end, at least you can get into it easier. :thumbsup2

Thank you Michelle. I am definately going to look into SW for our October trip... The girls are older now, so it's not a huge necessity that we all sit together (it is nice though...) - and I really don't care where we sit on the plane, as long as we all get on the same one. Plus, not having to pay for baggage fees - totally worth it IMO... I guess I will have to go look for the info - but maybe you'll know... Is SW a participating airline? It would be nice to not have to worry about our luggage on the return trip as well. Last time, it was kind of a PITA.

***************************

My day started off with me having to run to the vet for MM food - which they were closed again (this is the second time we have run out of food on a Saturday - and they've been closed) - so I had to go to the next closest town that carries it - which is about 30 minutes away. I didn't get home until well after noon.

Despite that, I had a decent day in my sewing room yesterday... I've decided to pick up my Travel Organizer pattern again, and try to get it to work for me. So far, so good - but the tricky part (ahem, zipper) is still yet to come. We will see... I will probably have to scrap this project as well - which will mean I will have 3 full days wasted in my sewing room... Oh well, we have to learn from our mistakes right?

Then, yesterday, V and I met Josh at the MOA... I was going for a Dismeet! PurpleEars (Flora) from the Disboutiquers thread was here on business this week, so we planned a meet. My crew got there early, because we had a bit of shopping to do. When Flora arrived, we stood there and chatted for about a half hour - I got to see some of her sewing projects (a luggage tag and her cell phone case), which is pretty awesome, because when she came, she had no idea she would end up doing a Dismeet. I brought my Donald backpack - because we needed some sort of identifying object. :thumbsup2 It was great to meet her - she does amazing things with her machine too! Anyways, here's a photo - to prove it happened...

I just have to add that I hate the new Disney Store - still. So sad... It's like this gigantic toy store... No adult clothes (OK, one table) and barely any collectables... I was hoping to see the Disney Village I fell in love with yesterday -and since the Dept 56 store at the MOA closed a few years ago, I knew I wouldn't see it there. And just in case you haven't seen the Disney Village... Umm, I want this sooooo badly for Christmas! I want to get my new Ikea Expedit shelf (white) for my fabric, and then set up this village year round in my sewing room... How awesome would that be???? Big puffy heart....

I hope you all have a wonderful day today!

Love all the new bags and your last SSP!

Now, if any of these projects that you are "scapping" need a home that they will be used (even though you don't think they are perfect, I am sure others would!;)...hint..hint..Lynn...I would be happy to give them a good home! :thumbsup2

So cute! I would love to set that up somewhere! I can't collect anything else though, I've been collecting the Jim shore figures for a few years now, and I'm running out of places to put them

So... I really wasn't all the happy with it anyways... Or that's how I've decided to console myself.

There were so many ugly spots.

Before I wrecked it, I had actually determined that I will never, ever try to fix this pattern - it is impossible. Nor will I ever try to make it again. Not with a zipper - not ever. I dunno how in the world they mass produce them out of China, but I tell you one thing - if you have a zippered wallet, you better enjoy it, because some poor person somewhere had to make it, and there were probably many, many swear words coming out of their mouth.

At the point I wrecked this wallet, I was just doing the final ironing - so it was finished - totally finished. All I had left to do was lint roll it.

I've worked on this for 2 days - being extra careful to be extra perfect, because it is so difficult.

Tears were streaming down my face when I realized that I totally wrecked it, with no way to salvage it. :sad2: The way it is constructed - there is absolutely no way I can rip it apart to fix this - it would be easier to start all over. :worried:

Oh man, I don't blame you for being so upset! If it were me, I would just cut the plastic off as close as you can and use it anyway. You can still use the pocket underneath it can't you? Maybe you can put an applique on felt and iron it on that spot!? Or, iron on another pocket (that's not plastic)???

THanks Stephanie...

Well, I could cut it off, it can kind of be used... it's actually vinyl, and I just wasn't paying attention to where my iron was when I was ironing the rest of it... :( I don't think there is anything I can do to save it... I could rip it apart, but it would really take me hours to do.

D~

D~

So sorry that happened (((hug)))

Ironing can be tricky and it's always worse when whatever I've done could have been completelly avoided, but I'm always hardest on myself.

I know the zipper is what makes this particular item most "professional," but could you try it with just a snap flap for closure?

I'm sorry this one was ruined. :(

Awww that's such a shame. I've shed my share of tears in my sewing room! I agree that if you trim the vinyl close, it would still be quite usable and the rest of it is great...even with the lint!;)

I once made a suit for my (ex) hubby. When it came to the pants, it took me about 1/2 a day to sew the fly, getting the top stitching just right, placement just right...turned out it was wrong side out!:scared1: I asked him if he could just reach inside when he needed the zipper down...:rolleyes1:rotfl:

:yay::yay::yay: for a DIS meet. :)

I'm sorry your organizer didn't work out.

I have part of the Village and want to get the rest this year. :goodvibes

Oh D...so sorry about your organizer! For what its worth...I still love it! I cant imagine putting that much time into something and have it not perfect. Hope you can still get some use out of it. It would look great with my balloon bag (hint hint hint) ;-)

So heartbreaking!!!! :worried: I cannot imagine the frustration and disappointment... Everything absolutely fabulous comes from MANY prototypes, though. Glad you just keep trying...we all benefit from it when we become proud owners of your custom bags.

I completely agree about the Disney store! It's so small and so crowded as well. DH and I did buy a couple of shirts though. I wish they'd have a bigger vanylmation collection and household items. Oh well.

On the travel wallet...so sorry this happenned! I know how frustrating this must be! An idea...trim the vinyl as best as possible. cut a new peice to fit the area...trim the new piece with a satin stitch and then hand sew it to the wallet. Does this make sense? The hand sewing will be a little tight, but it might work. It may not be a perfect solution, but I am sure there are some folks out there that would love it anyway!:rolleyes1
