~ Aug 2013~ Sew what... We've gotta find a way back! Part I!!

I understand better about the machine. get it, it sounds like it will make your life much easier. That sound like it would be worth it alone. Less stress, happier people. :) I am not a sewer, so often I get lost in the lingo. I agree the "practically perfect" would have been even better than the pp. Your attention to detail amazes me. I love the pluto one.
Hopefully Josh is feeling much better each day.

OMG!!! I need the Jiminy bag!!!! He is my BFF's favorite character and it's soooo hard to find anything with him on it for a decent price!! I did find a stuffed one when she had her baby and of course got it for her. Thanks for the reminder on the auction starting! Need to go check that out again.

On another note the kids and I were in a car accident this morning. We were in a parking garage heading up to the higher levels and a guy coming down hit us in the driver's side front corner! I saw him coming so I stopped to make sure he had enough room to make the turn (it's very tight in there) and he must not have been paying attention and he ran into me. All three kids were of course locked into their seats and are perfectly fine!!! I'm also fine but after I finally calmed down and called the insurance company my left shoulder started hurting and has been hurting ever since. So not fair with us leaving for vacation on Monday!! Everyone I've talked to and who has seen the pictures all say it's his fault. He hit me when I was stopped. Here's the damage to my poor van. The fender right there is actually pretty bowed out. More than it looks in the picture. (Please ignore the green paint. That's from about 5 years ago when I was pulling into my garage and rubbed it on the frame!! I was still learning how to park it into our small 1 car garage.)

D if you want 5x7 let me know I have a 770, I just had serviced and need to test but am thinking of letting go. I seriously don't need 3 machines.

I won't be testing until after the baby though.

I understand wanting options and I know lots of people who do a combo of hand appliqué and machine.

Thanks for letting me know. :thumbsup2

poor guy i really hope he feels better...

ow i have something to watch!!! YAY

a great day!!!!!!!

He says he is feeling better - but he is still walking crooked...

I've been playing around with my Viking and I have to say that I am not very happy with the results I'm getting. Stitching has been "off" and I've been doing a lot of frog work - you know, rip it, rip it. LOL. My dh says I'm too much of a perfectionist, but I just want it to look good. I'm seriously considering getting the 770. I just cannot justify paying an extra $400 just for the disney designs.

I have heard nothing but good things about the 770. The Disney designs aren't worth it - in my opinion - especially where there are so many great digitizers out there, like Heather Sue, who are much better than the preloaded ones.

On another note, thank you all so much for the prayers for Kat. She did definitely have a stroke that was caused by the underlying medical problem and an undetected hole in her heart. She lost motor skills on her right side and her speech. The doctors have said that her motor skills are showing improvement and she has been able to communicate with them. She will be moved to Bethesda Medical Center sometime next week, with a stop over in Hawaii. This is a good thing, since Bethesda is close to home. And her grandparents will be able to see her when she is in Hawaii. Again, thanks for all your prayers and support. You guys have been absolutely wonderful! I'm so glad I found this group and this thread.

This is such a sad story. I pray she she is able to make a full recovery. Please keep us updated, and like Ruthie said - Bethesda is a great hospital. (((Hugs)))

Glad Josh made it through work yesterday, and hoping he is feeling better.

Enjoy your morning at Target, and hope the auction is a huge success.

THanks Kathy! This week has been so crazy... I still need to make it over to your TR... So sorry I fell off the wagon there.

LOVE Jiminy Get the machine it will be Soooo worth it it looks wonderful & what a time saver for you

Regards to Josh hope he is on the mend and give MM a big ole kiss on his little pink nose for me ;)

Thanks! Seriously considering it. :)

Josh says he is better, but he is still walking crooked - so we will see...

Whoo - I thought my life was busy - well, it is, but at least I get some tiny chance to sleep.

LOL - I do get to sleep, occasionally.

Seriously, hope all the bags come out the way you dreamed them (or better)

Thank you... This next one is coming together better than I'd hoped. :thumbsup2

As for the embroidery machine, I think you spelled out the ways that it would be a boon as well as a burden. Time Saver, flexibility, personalization vs $$. You might be able to speed up the paying for it by adding a personalization charge. Just a suggestion.

The auction bag is very striking and the "Wish" adds a zing.

Thanks Ruthie... I really love how that bag turned out.

Josh might want to look into a chiropractor for his back. After his ribs are healed enough. I cannot praise my chiropractor enough for fixing a chronic, life long issue in my side. All because of a little jar when I was a kid that made one of my bones grow funny and irritate the nerve.

I will talk to him about it, but his back problems are a result of nerve damage, so I am not sure if a chiropractor can do anything about nerves or not?

I actually have sewn a little in the past week. Finished up two doll dresses and tested a doll pattern. She's not finished (she nekkid at the moment) but I know what I need to do to make a playable doll.

Hang in there everybody.

Yay!!!! So glad you were able to get in your sewing room and have some fun!!! I can't wait to see them, did you post pics on the Disbou thread?

I hope so - LOL I would really enjoy "easier" - at least with some things. I think I could add fonts in places where I'd never thought to add them before... Thanks Dee!

OMG Sandra!!! I am so glad you and the kids are OK... And right before your trip... So sorry you have to deal with this right now, but glad you are alright. :grouphug:

**********************************************************

Yesterday I worked at Target... It was a short shift - YAY!

Then I rushed home and started stitching out my custom order applique... It's coming together much nicer than I'd hoped. There's a couple of details I really want to add to it, but I am not sure if they will work or not, and I can't do it until I am done stitching. :scratchin

We had a relaxing night last night.

Today, I am working in my sewing room all morning. I hope to finish this applique so I can start some of my pre-assembly work.

Then this afternoon, I am picking V up from school - we have to run to Kohls to look at new tennies for her (I have a 30% off coupon, whoot)... She hasn't had any since the beginning of school last year - and she needs a new pair before our trip, so she can have adequate time to break them in. She also needs a pair of shoes for her 8th grade formal tonight... It bothers me a lot that she has to spend so much on a pair of shoes for ONE night, but it's her $$. Hopefully she can find something she can wear again.

That's about all that's going on here - nothing real exciting.

Sending out prayers to all who need them. :grouphug:

:scared: Oh I hate parking garages ! When we lived in NY and would go to Atlantic City I dreaded getting to the casinos for only that reason I can drive anything (just short of an 18 wheeler) and anywhere (swinging bridges tunnels etc) nothing shakes me but parking garages they confuse me & I lose all perspective especially if you have to keep going round and round to other floors Horrible and for the fear of just what happened to you PLEASE if the shoulder keeps hurting have it checked out if you can until then HEAT works best contrary to ice as my therapists have taught me So glad it was minor (not pretty poor car) but glad kids ok and relatively minor

8th grade formal for V ahh how nice !

Josh walking crooked stay on him if he's crooked walking he's hurting and kidding himself he must go EASY

I am leaning more and more towards getting the 770. I was very frustrated with my machine last night. The designs I have are great - bought some from Heather Sue and some others on Etsy, its just the machine that is screwing up.

Brief update on Kat - again thanks for your prayers and concerns. She continues to make small improvements each day. So much so that the powers that be decided to wait until next week for the regularly scheduled flight to Hawaii, rather than a special flight for her. Her dad is beside himself with worry and is headed to Guam today. The latest word is that she will get to Bethesda probably by Memorial Day weekend. The good news is the continued improvements!

D~ sorry for the hijack :(

Edited to add: D~, I remember that you were looking for red tank tops. I found one at walmart - a true red, not the raspberry color that is out now. If you don't have a walmart close, you can order on line - Hanes tank tops - I love these - they are so comfortable. I bought 8 of them yesterday is a bunch of colors.

glad to hear about the improvements. Still thinking about her and pray she can have a full recovery

Phew....a couple minutes to DIS! :cool1: First of all....I love the new bag and I totally agree that the dark background really makes him pop!

On the new machine issue...if it's not exactly what you want (usb port) I would hold off. You know it would be neat to have a machine like that, but just a little different. I would hold out for just what you want to make your bags even more special. Not to mention save you precious time ::yes::

I can't believe I get to meet you in just 13 short days! I feel like I am meeting two of my favorite celebrities....should I bring an autograph book??

Okay, back to work now...yes I said work, they asked me to stay late because everyone was leaving early today :faint:

I haven't posted pictures yet: I keep meaning to but this movie at work has taken my time and energy. I work at a science center with an IMAX theater. Usually we just show educational films but every once in a while we show feature films. Which means my usual 8-5 shifts sometimes turn into 3-midnight...like tonight.

Chiropractors might be able to help with nerve damage: depends on how they were damaged. If there's a disc or vertebrae issue that's causing pressure on the nerve, the adjustments and decompression should help alleviate the pain.

It doesn't sound like your girls would be like my niece, who when she went shopping for her formal at school, when trying on the dress that she eventually settled on stated: "I look like a gosh dern fairy princess" except it wasn't exactly "Gosh Dern" that she said. She's a little different, and her mom would probably put that completely on my head. :cool2:

Blessings to all that need them, especially those in pain, shock, or otherwise stressed. Including me.

Yes, she looked beautiful! I have pictures to post below.

Oh I know... Most times he refuses to listen though. Somtimes I just have to let him do what he needs to do... His back goes out like this every few months, so we are kind of used to it now. :sad2:

I cannot wait to see it!!!

Nope - no problems at all... I am relieved too! :cool1:

I will have pictures posted below.

I am leaning more and more towards getting the 770. I was very frustrated with my machine last night. The designs I have are great - bought some from Heather Sue and some others on Etsy, its just the machine that is screwing up.

I am certain this is the machine I am going with, however - I think in my situation, I will be better off going with a used machine. I just can't choke down the full price of it, and I don't think I will put enough mileage on it to justify the cost of a new one either. :confused3 I hope you are able to figure out what you are going to do, but I have wanted the 770 for years, it just has the best reputation out there for what you get. :thumbsup2

D~ sorry for the hijack

I am so relieved to hear she is improving. However - I can't imagine how hard if must be for your family to have her so far away... I can understand her dad's need to be with her. I pray she continues to improve.

(and you can hijack any time)

Edited to add: D~, I remember that you were looking for red tank tops. I found one at walmart - a true red, not the raspberry color that is out now. Oooh - thanks for letting me know! I have not looked there, but I will. :woohoo:

Hi Suzi! So happy to see you! And thanks!

I agree... I am certain I will be starting off with a used one. I just don't think I would put that much mileage on one, and it would be most beneficial for me to go this route... That way - I get the machine I want and a price point I can swallow. If I use it a couple of years and decide that I would like a new machine, maybe I can justify it at that time? :thumbsup2

I can't believe I get to meet you in just 13 short days! I feel like I am meeting two of my favorite celebrities....should I bring an autograph book??

Super excited to meet you both too!!! Not excited to clean my house though. LOL I haven't been much in the mood since we are planning to do the remodel - however - we have not started it yet... :rolleyes1 So, I guess I better clean. LOL

Okay, back to work now...yes I said work, they asked me to stay late because everyone was leaving early today

Yikes - I hope you had a good day at work.

Cool! I didn't know that! I love the Science Museum and the IMAX theater... However - every time I go now, I get so sick... So, I don't go very often.

I will talk to Josh to see what he says. :thumbsup2

Yes, I agree!

D-thanks for the PM. I love seeing all the park photos of your bags!

You are certainly welcome! :) Did you get the other PM I sent you weeks ago?

**********************************************************

Well, I worked on my applique yesterday morning for a few hours...

It was early release yesterday, so I went to town to get V and take her shoe shopping. Thankfully we did find her a pair of "formal" shoes at Kohls - so we didn't have to go elsewhere.

(shoe photos for Mo) - It's really hard to find shoes for teen girls... I am sorry - but I will not have my girls wearing pumps (we call them something else that I won't type here, because it's not appropriate)... So, it's difficult to find heels that aren't too tall - and she didn't want flats. We compromised.

20130517_133603.jpg
20130517_133634.jpg

While shoe shopping, we were also looking for new tennies for V - she didn't get a new pair for back to school last fall, so she was still wearing her's from the previous year. I wanted her to get a new pair with pleanty of time for her to break them in before our trip. So, she got a cute pair of Asics. We also got a couple of other misc. items.

Then we came home... I went back to my sewing room for stitch out the applique for a few more hours.

At 4pm, V went to the neighbor's (the one who baked cupcakes for her birthday) and she did her hair and make up. Allison and I were starting to get worried - it was 6:30 and she wasn't back yet to get dressed... So Alli went down to get her. They both came rushing back - V didn't realize what time it was. She had to be at the the dance at 7pm - they lock the doors at 7:15.

So, she quick dressed... We quick took pictures... I took pictures on my phone - and Alli took pictures with her Nikon, but she does't have them on the computer yet... So you are stuck with my cell phone pictures for the time being... :rolleyes1 She looks beautiful... The neighbor added extensions to her hair, and she just looked so grown up... Sniff-sniff.

20130517_183517.jpg

I didn't realize that her dress needed ironing... Or I would have done it while she was having her hair and makeup done... It was too late to iron it by the time I noticed - so she had to wear it wrinkled. :headache:

So, Alli and I ran to town and dropped V off at school...

Then BFF and her dd met us at Target, and we went to Kohls again... I needed a different size in one of the items I'd purchased earlier in the day, and I'd forgotten something that Allison needed.

When we were done at Kohls, I treated all of us to icecream...

By then - it was time to go get V... So we all went with, and BFF got tons of pictures of V at the dance with her friends (but she hasn't sent them to me yet)...

And that was it. We came home and went straight to bed.

Today... I will be working in the sewing room all morning. I hope to finish up this applique, and start some pre-assembly work and hopefully start on the final assembly too.

The girls and I have a wedding to go to this evening... It's 2 hours away - I still haven't decided if we are going or not... :scratchin We need to... but It's such a far drive to only be there for an hour, we can't stay for the reception... And then drive 2 hours home. We will see... Most likely we will go.

I wanted to leave you with this picture... Josh was cleaning off our walk out patio the other day - and he noticed that he couldn't move these posts he had put there the week prior... It seems someone moved in...

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! And sending out good thoughts and prayers to all who need them.

D~ V has certainly grown up and is a stunning young lady. love her dress and shoes! Hope she had a wonderful time.

That Robins nest is amazing :)

Oh, D~ your daughter is absolutely beautiful. That natural beauty, seems in & out. Love her dress & her shoes.
Hope you enjoy the wedding, if you go.
I love to see nests with eggs. So nice Josh didn't move them.
Have a great weekend!

Lovely dress V got on for the dance. The shoes looks really nice as well.

I'm starting to catch up on your pre trip report. I have been in Sweeden for a few days and yesterday was Norway's National day so it was celebration all day. But now I'm back. No trips planned for a long time :(

I thought of you yesterday Lillian... V came home from school, and due to Norway's National Day, one of her teachers taught them to count to 10 in Norwegian. I thought that was kind of cool. :thumbsup2
