Attention Distance Runners! What are you listening to on your iPod on your runs?

I was thoroughly convinced that I listened to the absolute strangest combination of music while running......until this thread :)

I, too, am alternating between Disney tracks and old Nu metal bands that I barely want to admit to liking (Static-X) and also stuff I actually like (The Pogues.) It pretty much comes and go in phases in terms of whether it's an "it" song that I put on during a run. There are at least 7 I listen to every single day that I run (The aforementioned, Mumford and Sons several songs, the Star Wars theme music... :rotfl:) I'll be keeping an eye on this thread!
 
I have found that "Paint it Black" is an awesome song to run with...at a 9:30 pace. :hippie:
 
I find the no music thing also helps on races where headphones aren't allowed or you're DQed and there is no official result. :)

If they don't allow headphones in the ears, then maybe you could try these?

I know alot aren't into this kind of music but I've recently started adding some Skrillex to my running mix. I like the faster beats that keep me going when I'm getting a little tired.

My guess is that RDs aren't going to take the time to see that they're not ON your ears. They look close enough to headphones they're probably in the same category.

Not everyone absolutely HAS to be plugged into music all the time. Some of us like to soak in the atmosphere and community of a race rather than isolate ourselves from the whole experience - even if headphones are allowed. Personally I think it's nice to have the knowledge that I can do my runs without the crutch of music. If my iPod breaks I can keep up with mine rather than wait until I can get another one "because I can't run without music". Is it a nice thing from time to time? Sure, if it's what works for you. But should it be the only way someone can run? IMHO no.
