Attempted Scam!!

Ok so here goes. I was in a room today called "Trading Stitch Hat" so of course I went there to see if maybe the owner would accept my offer. So I stood in line and when it was finally my turn, I put up the items. My offer totalled over 15 items so I knew we would have to trade 2 times but I didn't mind. A little while later the owner said that he liked my offer and would accept. Now of course I was totally freaking and all I could see in my mind was me proudly strolling the streets of vmk smuggly wearing my new Stitch Hat, (come on, wouldn't all of you?) But there was also this little sliver of doubt becuase I read these boards daily and I've heard about all the scams fellow Dis members have experienced.
Then the owner says, "Do you mind if we use <name removed> for a CL trade?" (He meant the guy standing beside him in his room.) At once I was thinking uh.. NO WAY!!
1. This player was not a CL
2. I didn't know this guy and therefore did not trust him.
So I politlely said no, and explained to him about my not wanting to lose my items and how we could trade twice on his terms concerning the items. He said OK and exited out of the trade.
Now, I thought he was talking to his friend about what I had said, and a few seconds later I heard that dreadful Wooshing noise and found out that I was BOOTED from his room!
I actually found this a bit funny at how his scam failed dreadfully. But I also felt angry at how many other people that guy was going to try and scam and how many would fall for his tricks. I hate scammers, truly hate them. But I'm glad that I didn't fall for it. Hopefully vmk will put an end to scams sometime in the near future. But all we can do is hope, .

You know now that you mention it, "<name removed>" probably was his other account. Even if it was a CL though, I still would have rather have done 2 trades. There's always that chance that the CL doesn't trade you the items, (it could happen) or one of you gets dc or your computer crashes and you never get your end of the bargain. Good for you for not trading... My son was in a room with a friend today and someone was trying to trade for a sparrow for many items, too many for one trade window.. The guy with the sparrow would not use a CL and wanted to use his friend and so since my son was just scammed he kept telling his friend "no way", "don't do it" & "if he won't use a CL then he is going to scam you". Thank goodness the friend listened and didnt' do the trade!

I was in a "Offer for Flip" Room. Everyone had to get in a line and the owner would look at everyone's offers. When it was my turn I showed her my offer, and she said she liked it, and told me to accept the offer and she'd give me the hat afterwards because she had it on and I asked her to take the hat off and if we could do a leader trade, she said yes and said she had to go and she didn't have time to wait for a leader to come so if her friend could subsitute a leader insted, I said no and left the room.

Yeah, that seems to be happening a lot lately. I'm glad that you also did not fall for that person's trickery and get scammed Hopefully someday VMK will establish a better way to deal with scammers. One can only hope!

If only it were that easy. VMK does not have an adequate way to punish scammers so "making sure they have it" is easier said than done. But I agree with you 100%, something SHOULD be done! Thank you all for your opinions and support!
