This is a new one for me. I’ve seen ATM that might have options to receive 20s, 50s, or even 100s in US dollars. However, this was the first where I found I could select any combination up to the withdrawal amount. I pulled out $100. Before dispensing, it asked if I wanted a single $100. Then when I indicated no, it showed +/- buttons to select the number of $1/$5/$20 bills, plus another button to pad out the bills for the withdrawal amount.

This was a first for me. I knew these machines always had the capability to dispense different bills. I’ve even seen a few that could dense sheets of postage stamps. It was really weird once when I saw a mom in front of me who allowed her son to withdraw money for her freaked out because he handed her several sheets of stamps.

The banks did that a very long time ago. It is nice to hear that option is there so many places cant break big dollar bills especially in early morning hours.

Our bank, just within maybe the last 6 months, has updated their ATM computer system, and you're now allowed to choose 10s/20s/50s, etc. Not 5s and 1s, but I have appreciated being able to break it down at least by 10s.

My bank (Chase) began to offer that option as well. However, customers can choose singles, fives or any denomination above that (two-dollar bills aren't an option, however ;-)).

I love the multi denomination atms. It’s nice to be able to get some ones and fives for a withdrawal.

Interesting. I’ve never come across those. With rare exceptions, I always use the ATM at my own bank and it only gives 20s. Guess they’re behind the times. :confused3

It's been a while, I guess, since I've been to an ATM. I didn't know they did that.

I can get 5s, 20s and 100s from chase atms around me. I like being able to get 5s and not having to break a 20 for something that is $2.

I've seen some that have 20s and 50s, and they'll figure out what to dispense based on the withdrawal amount. However, none I've used ever had a menu to select a random selection. And this is the first time I'd heard of 1s from an ATM. I was under the impression that 20s were the standard to make things a lot easier, including limiting the number of bill hoppers that needed to be loaded. I'd seen the machines being loaded before, and one machine I recall had just two bill hoppers. I don't believe the armored car service could actually access the hopper and it had to be inserted into the machine to unlock it for use.

Still - it's not like the technology for multiple bill types isn't there. I've used self-serve checkout and vending machines that spit out bills as change.

The Wells Fargo ATMs in grocery stores here usually give you a choice. For a while though if you got $100 or more, you automatically got a $100 bill. I had that issue when I went to grab cash for food at our minor league baseball game. The nearest branch was still open so I just turned in the $100 for 5 $20s. I just can't see paying for a $4 hot dog with a $100 bill.
Now the ATMs at the bank branch don't give you a choice, the largest bill they dispense is $20.

I hadn’t been to an ATM in a couple of years so was surprised to see this option a couple months ago. The only problem was I couldn’t figure out how to make it work. No directions I was just presented with a screen. Touchscreen didn’t do anything and neither did the buttons.

The PNC ATM closest to me dispenses $1 dollar and up. It's great for me when I have to take out a weird amount like say $113. I have also tested it just for fun to see if it *would* dispense a single dollar, and it did. This ATM also gives you a bill choice.

Now if the ATMs only gave you a 2% discount for withdrawing cash like credit cards do when you use them.

Our chase branch had that set up for a while, I had to remember to ask for $80, otherwise I got stuck with a $100. It was so annoying.

Bank of America has apparently had ATM machines with Teller Assist since 2013. I have yet to see one but those apparently allow you to get the cash dispensed in $100, $20, $10, $5, and $1 denominations.

BofA also lets you use your cell phone at the ATM instead of your ATM card to make the withdrawal. The ATMs I typically use have the NFC reader but I have yet to try that feature.

Wells Fargo has that too. I don't use it.

Wish my Bank of America would do that. I withdraw a certain amount every 2 weeks for my budget and I need singles in addition of 5's 10's and 20's to put in my weekly budget envelopes. I have to go to the teller to get this done.
