Hi,

I am going to be in Atlanta for a business conference mid October. I am looking for a nice brunch on Sunday and places that are fun/nice for dinner.

My meetings are at the Georgia World Congress center..

Thanks

Unfortunatley down town Atlanta is kind of well ucky in parts.
I don't live in Atlanta -but I live a few hours away. I am sure you will get some more advice from Atlantans

There is a Ruths Chris steak house (pricey) within walking distance of the World Congress center
There is also if I remember a hard rock cafe down there as well. There is a nice restaurant on top of I think the Westin downtown as well
I don't know about brunch. The Ritz in Buckhead is supposed to have a nice one.-You would have to drive to it
:)

I just looked it up - the restaurant on top of the westin is called the sun dial -amazing view. I have never been -but it is supposed to be great!

Clarabelle mentioned the first one that came to my mind -- the rotating restaurant at the top of the Westin Peachtree (the big cylindrical hotel in downtown).

Will you have a car? If so, there are plenty of nice places in Buckhead.

Find a Waffle house, they are everywhere! I am moving there at some point, but am back and forth till I finally do. I have grown to love the Waffle house. You can basically throw a stone from one to the other that is how many of them there are there.

thanks on the rotating restuarant idea.. I won't have a car, is buckhead far? I can take a cab if it is not $$$$$.

It's hard to get around Atlanta without a car. I used to live in Atlanta, I think MARTA (metro system) stopped near the Westin (Peachtree Center?). Four Seasons is right at the Arts Center stop, and that's a pretty nice area, you'll have the Museum and the Symphony right there.

Buckhead has nice restaurants, it might be worth it to venture out.

I think the most unique restaurant that I remember while I was down there was called "Dante's Down the Hatch". It was a fondue restaurant centered around a pirate ship, and different areas of the restaurant were themed around the ship. You could dine on the ship, but you could also down in the town area, or the port area, whatever. Interestingly themed. I believe there's a live jazz band playing on the ship, and there are real crocodiles swimming in the water. It's supposed to be some sort of conservation center as well. SOunds crazy, but it was fun.

A few suggestions.

The Ritz Carlton downtown probably has an excellent brunch.

For a good dinner downtown try Rays in the City on Peachtree or Park Avenue. (Get someone to tell you where that one is, I can walk there from my office, but....)

Be sure to see Centenial Park. The fountains are lit up at night so it's nice.

For less expensive fare there is a Ninfa's Mexican that's not bad. (One block off Peachtree behind the Hard Rock)

There is the Hard Rock and Hooters.

If you have time, take Marta to Lenox and shop (VERY nice mall)

As for the Westin, food is overpriced and not good. Just pay for an expensive drink and go to the bar! I was not impressed.

I am actually attending a conference at the Congress Center this weekend. If I see something I will post it.

thanks for the help... I will check out the ideas too especially the Rays in the City .. I live in Chicago so we have a Hard Rock and Hooters here- so i was looking for something that is unique to Atlanta..

I don't have a lot of time due to the conference but I am setting up the booth on saturday, have Sat night free and part of Sunday since the conference doesn't start until 4 Pm on sunday.. ..

Thanks Mimi Q the menu looks great.. i will definitely try it...

I'm not really familiar with the area near the World Congress Center, but I will echo what others have said about how hard it is to get around Atlanta without a car. The public transit isn't very good (it doesn't go anywhere that anyone really needs to get to!), and cabs can be a bit scary.

The Tea Room is cool, but I think you'd have to take a bus or cab to get there.
