At the grocery store today I met an older gentleman

It always happens to me, in fact my dad used to call me "Mini-Marge" after my Grandma since she could litterally chat with anyone she met.

It seems to always happen at the Grocery and Target. Some people have been fascinating to talk to and others I have been tortured by.

I do very often, and only occassionally have regretted it (the person was not 'all there' and then proceeded to follow me around the store for an hour :scared1: ).

My sister has the best story to share, however. An older gentleman, probably in his 80's, talked to her one day at the grocery store. The conversation started b/c he was complimenting my niece. They talked for almost an hour, then he said he had something for her. She was a little skeptical, but he pulled out a $20 bill and told her to buy something nice for my niece. He then explained that his only child died without ever having kids, and he liked to do nice things like this every now and then. My sister was touched. And she ran into him again about 6 mos later, and he gave her $20 again.

All the time. It cracks DH and my friends up. My friend was visiting and she said you are so nice you talk to everyone. I don't start the conversations though. People just walk up to me and start chatting.

OP do you live in Florida? I think you might have met my FIL;)

Yep, I'll chat. The best little old people are found in the pet food aisle :goodvibes

Few talk to me, if any do at all. But my younger sister, she attracts chatters like crazy. I can't do any outing with her without at least one person striking up a conversation with her. Really, it makes me jealous! Why don't people talk to me??? She is a cutie and a sweetheart and people just sense her kindness.

When her 12 year old twins complain, she replies "Did you see me start the conversation? No. I'm just being polite and replying."

I am a cashier at a grocery store so I get a ton of chatterers in my lines. There is one nice old couple who always give me a Werther's Original.

Its pretty sad though to think that I may be the only person they talk to all day. My grocery store usually has perpetual long lines, sometimes I wish I could talk to them more but all the people in the line behind are glaring.

Unless I'm really in a hurry I don't mind when old people ramble on about things. I know they may be lonely and if it makes them feel happier having someone to talk to for 10 minutes I'm glad to help.

It's a family joke that I have the "talk to me face"! LOL! Everyone talks to me in the stores!

I tend to have people come chat with me often. My daughter is wont to say, "oh there goes my mom talking to a new friend." It never bothers me to talk to people, and I have a special place in my heart for the elderly.

I adore older folks. When I was in Jr high/High School, I worked (back in the day, many moons ago) as a nurses aide/activities director for geriatrics in Long Term Care. I did it for 6 years. I *loved* it. Earned the Nickname, "Little Lady" *chuckle.
To this day, I will say "Dandy Dandy" when asked about my day (not name! shesh) :D as a resident use to say this to me... "Just dandy, dandy!"
