AT&T to buy T-Mobile's U.S. Operations!

Bicker is 100% correct - AT&T was basically purchased by SBC. Most of the "mergers" were really acquisitions by SBC (i.e. Pacific Bell, Nevada Bell, SNET, Ameritech, AT&T and to an extent BellSouth). It is SBC's old headquarters which is the headquarters of AT&T in Texas. I currently work for AT&T and started out with SBC back in 2000 so I have been around many of these "mergers".

Ah. Your just a PDB then (post divestiture baby). I was with T for a long time, back when SBC was just a backwater RBOC. I saw it all...the good, the bad, and the ugly. Sometimes very ugly. I wonder how many T people are here?

I used to have AT&T before I got married, but changed to T-Mobile when I married since that was what my husband had. I didn't notice much difference in coverage between the companies although AT&T cost more. But my husband will be happy since he will be able to get the iPhone.

I generally have ill will towards att and love my tmobile service. But with 12-18 months before approval and another 8-12 months before the merger is complete i don't have to witty just yet. I priced out verizon. It seems ok. My $25 flat rate to call brazil will be toast. I may renew my contract right before the bitter end just to keep that rate for 2 more years.
Tmobile employs about 250 people here in charleston at a call center. They are leftovers from suncom. Hope they get to keep their jobs.

LOL - it's weird working "for" AT&T when my grandfather worked for them originally especially after the divestiture when no one thought they would get back together. Ma' Bell sure did (and still does) have alot of retirees and employees so I am surprised I haven't seen more folks come out of the wood works to say they have or do work for AT&T or one of the "little" bells...:)

If anyone wants a good laugh on the AT&T "history" this is quite funny: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsCp-1hgfxI (Steve Colberts take on the merger's/acquisitions)

....or do work for AT&T or one of the "little" bells...:)

Actually among the pre-1984 Baby Bells, only 3 existing companies still have historical ties to the former Ma Bell (pre-1984 AT&T):

Today's AT&T (former Southwestern Bell/SNET/Ameritech/Pacific Bell/Bell South)

Verizon (former Bell Atlantic/NYNEX)

Qwest (former U.S. West -- the Qwest name is soon to disappear via their upcoming merger with Century Link).

Crap.

I switched to T-Mobile specifically to get away from AT&T. Looks like I'll be making another jump over to Verizon once they start making offers to switch.
