I was in the mall today, and the AT&T dealer had an advert out for the iPhone 3GS for just $49. I was in the market for a new phone anyway, so I took the plunge. :cool1: A nice, reliable replacement for the crappy Cricket phone I had before. So if anyone here is an AT&T customer, and your kids want an iPhone, this might be perfect.

Hummmm, Verizon is set to make a big announcement on Tuesday, speculation that they are releasing the IPhone. The timing of this is interesting.

Did you have to sign up for services or just purchase the phone w/o contract:confused3

When we signed up for our contract, my wife got a 4 and I got a 3GS to save money. Now, I REALLY wish I got the 4. It's so much better in every regard. Don't let all of the newstories about reception get to you--it's SO worth it to get the 4.

I agree! I went from the 3G to the 4 about a week ago... I love it! I loved my 3G as well but now that I have the 4 I can't imagine going back! And in the week that I've had the 4 Ive used it in quite a few areas and never once lost service.

Must depend where you live. 2 of my co-workers downgraded back to their 3Gs because the 4G phones were so bad.

Can you tell me what a basic plan costs (with the iphone?).

I agree. Fire sale to lock people in

Not sure on the monthly phone plans. I am sure you can get any one. However you have to have a minimum $15 a month data plan for an iphone. They also have a $25 one

WSJ confirmed that Verizon will announce on Tuesday. Launch is *probably* Feb 3, after superbowl advertising helps make a big push. Apple employees all have to be in the office Feb 3-6. It seems perhaps Verizon is actually expecting a big crush, unlike ATT who completely came unglued with the iphone 4 launch.

Friends and co-workers here complain about the 4 compared to the 3 also. I'm eligible for the upgrade but still on the fence because of all the reception problems they are having. What is it about the 4 that you like much better than the 3?

Our store still had all the iPhones at their regular prices. The data plans are $15 and $25. Dh pays $30 for his old unlimited which isn't available any more.

I just recently acquired a 3GS and my husband a 4. To me there's no difference. Neither of us have any issues with our phones at all. Reception or otherwise.

The data plan is 25 a month and honestly we use our phones a LOT for apps and streaming and neither of us is even close to using halfway the amount of data given each month. And our month is about to end. So keep that in consideration.

The issue with the Verizon deal is that anyone who currently HAS an iPhone and wants to drop ATT for Verizon is that with this new iPhone acquisition they are not allowing ATT customers to switch unless they buy a NEW phone. So THAT is the catch. You have to buy a phone through them, you can't just switch over. So Verizon may not have the results of crushing ATT as they thought.

I'm not real great with cell phone terminology but I believe the ATT phones are of the type of use the SIM chip and Verizon is the ~other~ type which is why you can't just move your ATT phone over to Verizon.

How's that for technical detail?

We have 2 iPhones on our ATT account, 3GS and the $30 unlimited data plans. I think our contracts expire mid-summer and I'll be willing to look around then because my reception at home isn't the hottest. I'd thinking of maybe moving to an Android phone too, although I hate to lose all my iPhone apps.

I would think that most iPhone apps worth their weight would be available as an Android app also.

My daughter is waiting very patiently to get the iphone when Verizon brings it out. We are current Verizon customers and she has a blackberry.
Bring it on....
