It's not something I do, or have ever done at home as we share the milk/juice -- not too grossed out by the germ aspect as we share bottles/drinks when we are out, but I much prefer to drink from a glass.

I say unsanitary b/c unlike when you share drinks out they're finished and thrown away. I agree, no different than kissing someone. But drinking out of a large container that could sit there for days can cultivate some gross stuff. PSA...you can kiss whoever you want, just don't shake their hands! ;)

Yes, I think it's gross!

It's unsanitary as germs will be deposited on/in the drink every time someone's mouth comes in contact with the container(s)!

Well, duh! Saliva is teeming with various bacteria which readily multiplies in milk & juice. Whoever gets to the milk jug first gets the non-contaminated milk. Everybody else gets the bacterial sludge.

Yes I do because I'm the only one drinking from it!

Other.

I don't "think" it is unsanitary, I know it is. The enzymes from your salvia contaminate the drink inside the container, it begins to break it down. It may spoil faster esp. if you do not drink it quickly.

Also the bacteria from your mouth will be introduced into the food product.

So yes unsanitary, but probably won't make you sick. It is just gross to think about it.

We don't do it in our house, but I have no problem with families doing it... unless I come over and drink out of it - that would be nasty!!!! But among family members - get over it, its just fine!!

I don't like it, but I don't get too worked up over it if someone in the house just takes a swig on occasion. I'd probably put my foot down if any of them made a habit of it.

I drink out of my milk container and my roommate knows it. He told me the second week I moved in that I am welcome to anything he has in the house, but warned me he drinks out of his juice bottles. I warned him I do the same with my milk. Yet, he still borrows my milk from time to time. I don't know if he forgets or what, but I'm never around when he does it (I just realize the next time I go to get it that the volume is lower than the last time I put it away) and I'm NOT going to stop drinking out of MY milk jug just because he borrows it after I already told him I do it. I think I'll put a post-it note on it next week telling him I drank out of it. It's not that I mind sharing, especially since he shares as well. BUT it's something that I've always done and I don't think I should have to change it.

I answered "somewhat". Yes, it's unsanitary, but I don't think it's killed anybody, either.

I never do it though, I always get a glass. DH doesn't either, his mother would punish him if he tried it as a kid and the habit stuck with him. Same with toilet seats being down, I'm happy to say! :)

On a rare occasion I will take a swig from a 2 liter bottle of soda, but never milk or juice. It makes me feel a little naughty and then I snicker with delight. :teeth:

I hate milk. However but my husband loves it so if you come to my house you may not want to drink my milk, I'll offer you some tea.

If it's just DH and myself then I don't really care, but if company wants a drink of juice or milk then what do I do? Not say anything? Or tell them we drink out of the carton? I think that might be kind of awkward.

We don't drink out of cartons though, and I don't even think the kids did it when they were at home.

Everyone in my house agrees that it is replusive so no issue with drinking after anyone.;)

Growing up we always used a glass too. Never occured to us to drink from a carton or jug.

This is one of my biggest pet peeves. When my hubby and I first got married, I would throw away the juice or milk if I caught him doing it. I think it is one of the grossest things ever.....next to people who blow their nose at the dinner table (whether at home or out in public). The thought of snot sitting in a tissue on the table makes me want to vomit.
