Aspergers and Hotels

Does anyone else have a LO with Aspergers who is absolutely obsessed with hotels and hotel lobbies? Mines just loves staying at hotels. It is a joy to her to walk around the hallways and hang out in the lobby especially if there is a computer or tv involved to mess with. Is it just my Nyssabear or is it your Aspie kiddo too?

Mine loves large open hotel lobbies also (multistory) I think it is a visual complexity thing. And yes if there is a TV of course he will be drawn to it, for some reason being in a big open visually complex space he is much more comfortable being close to other people (children). The rest of interior of the hotels not so much, except for places like WL or AKL, which are visually rich. It does not rise to the level of a “special area of interest” but is definitely noticeable.

Sounds like she might be an architectural school candidate.

Yes, yes, yes! My DS Aspie loves chain hotels. He draws maps and either draws or cuts out the hotel logos to put on his maps. He loves picking up the booklets at gas stations, etc that have coupons in them for hotels. He likes to just spend time looking through the ads. He also loves getting hotel brochures that list all the hotel locations. These are harder to come by.

He always wants to travel and stay in a hotel. He loves maps, highways, street signs and hotels.

My DS was disappointed when we fly to WDW and stayed onsite since it was not a hotel chain that he knew.

My DD10 Has to collect the room keys, adds them to her collection!

That goes along with checking the tv and channels, keepi8nhg the napkins too!

Mine really comes alive when he gets to explore new places and loves to read all of the signs (Everything Pop!!) LOL

We just came back from a trip to New Orleans and our hotel room had a spiral staircase in it....need I say more???

I am so glad you posted this! My son LOVES hotels, and if we go back to one a year of two later, he will tell you everything that has changed. We stayed at an ok Best Western this past spring for a swim meet and it was "the best hotel ever!" It was hilarious considering some of the places we have stayed...like Disney! LOL Got to love seeing the world through their eyes.

Add us to the Hotel fan club. Mine can remember house layouts and hotel plans from years ago. He loves Disney hotels. It's just so fascinating for him. He wants to go the Nickelodeon Hotel to see how that stacks up compared to Disney. Anyone been?
