ASMu to Chef Mickey's

Can someone please tell me how we get from our resort (ASMu) to Chef Mickey's (the Contemporary I think) Does the monorail run all over WDW property or only at certain areas? This is our first time to Disney, so I have no idea what to expect. Thanks! 8 days and counting! Can't wait to spend Christmas with Mickey! (Well, my DH, DD-8 and DS-4 can come too I guess) LOL LOL

Take the bus from All Stars music to the Magic Kingdom. Then you COULD walk to the comtemporary but your best bet would be to go to monorails and take the monorail to the contemporary. There are 2 monorails, one marked resorts and one marked ticket and transportation center (or something similar). I think your best bet would be to take the resorts monorail--the first stop is the contemporary.

I forgot to add--the monrail does not go to all Disney world property. One monorail runs from magic kingdom to contemporary to TTC to Polynesian to Grand Floridian, then back to magic kingdom. So that's a big bonus for the people staying in those hotels. THe other monorail I am not sure of-never took it.

Sadly, the monorails do not run all over the property. I'm assuming that you won't have a car, so you'll have to take a bus from ASMu. Depending on the MK hours, if the MK is still open the quickest route is probably the bus from ASMu to the MK. From the MK you can pick up the monorail which does go right into the lobby of the Contemporary (very cool, the kids will love it) . . . I think it's also a short walk from MK to the Cont.

Otherwise I think you have to take the Downtown Disney bus form ASMu and transfer at DD/Pleasure Island to a bus headed for the Contemporary (or, more complicated, DD to the ticket and transportation center to connect to the monorail).

Of course, depending on how tight your shedule is and how tired everyone is from a day of travel, you can always opt for a cab. They can call one for you at ASMu (and again on the way home from the Contemporary). We went to dinner at Boma on our first night (after spending the afternoon at Thyphoon Lagoon). Long story short, after waiting forever and ever and ever for the bus we were all very tired and cranky by the time we got to dinner. We opted for the short cab ride back to ASSp (well worth the $5-6) since using the bus system to go from resort to resort can be a nightmare.

Any way you do it, you'll have a fabulous time. Have a wonderful trip!!

p.s. If you do have a car that you haven't mentioned . . . drive! Resort to resort it's 100% worthwhile.

Thanks alot! Yes we will have our van, but (& I know this is probably a stupid question) is it "that" big that we would be better drive? From what family & friends have told us, a big perk to staying on site at a resort is that you park you car, and don't have to see it again until you get ready to leave. Like I said, this is our 1st trip, so I'm completely clueless. All help & suggestions are GREATLY appreciated.

I think that when traveling from ASMu to another resort--where no direct transportation is available--it's absolutely preferable to drive. You won't be battling crowds coming and going as you would driving to the parks at peak hours and parking should be easy. Driving could take 10 minutes, connecting via bus could take almost an hour if you have to wait around a lot.

It's been a LONG time since I've been at WDW with a car (usually fly and then get airport transport) so we've come to rely on the bus system. Many strongly prefer to use their own car all of the time, but I agree that if you're just traveling from ASMu to spend the day at a park that hopping on the bus can be easier than waiting with the crowds to park, taking the tram to the park gates from the parking lot, etc. But I think it's worth using the car if going to another resort, Downtown Disney/Pleasure Island, and the water parks
