We are taking a Disney Cruise then spending 3 nights at WDW. I already have reservations at ASMovies as we are traveling with a 5 year old. I have been doing ALOT of reading and am now looking at changing my reservations to POR or POFQ as we can take the boat to DTD and be in a more relaxing resort. POR looks beautiful and looks about my style. Any info would be great! I guess I want to keep that "Disney feeling" going by staying at a nicer resort.

we have stayed at the all-stars in the past and they were fine....it kinda depends on what's important to your family and how much time do you plan on spending at the resort or will you be in the parks most of the time? we have stayed at POFQ as well and amenities wise, there's not really much more to offer(other than the boats to DTD) at POFQ than at the all-stars...we did like POFQ alot though...it's a very compact resort with nothing really more than about 5 minutes away from your room, which was really nice...the serpant pool would probably be a big hit with a 5yr old! we have never stayed at POR, so I can't help with that one...

These resorts are very different. First, Riverside is much more spread out and if you don't do your research, you may end up quite a distance from the food court and check-in area. The parking surrounds the buildings so that is not a problem.

The landscaping at Riverside is beautiful and the river really adds a lot to the resort. The mansion area is elegant and the bayou more rustic.

French Quarter is, well, like the French Quarter with the railings, porches, masks, jazz, etc....and involves much less walking.

Both resorts have their fans but in my opinion, Riverside is one of the most beautiful resorts we've seen. Frankly, recent visits to Caribbean Beach have found the rooms there to be cleaner since it was recently rehabbed.

I would recommend POR. The rooms are great (larger than the ASM) and with a 5 year old you'll really apreciate the room. The landscaping and the mansion rooms are gorgeous. It is a very romantic resort, and you can always take a trip to DTD if you want to buy that special something. Hope this helps.::MickeyMo

Going under the assumption you will be spending most of your 3 days at the parks, I don't think the resorts make a huge difference. After spending time in a cruise ship room, any of the resort rooms will seem plenty large enough.

Our kids ( 2 1/2 and 5) loved the AS movie theme. We stayed in the Toy Story building. My wife and I (BK - before kids) stayed at POR, and liked the atmosphere, all the trees and the beautiful landscaping.

The pools areas are nicer at the POR and POFQ.

But if you plan on spending all your time in the parks, I'd suggest going with the cheaper alternative. The 5 yr old will probably like the AllStar Movies theming better.

DH & I have stayed at both POFQ & AsM, and I have to put in my vote for POFQ. We have stayed at several resorts, but it is still our favorite! We like the boat ride, the theming, and especially the fact that the resort is so much smaller and has a more intimate feel to it. It is a short walk to the food court from any room. And there are amenities there you don't have at the value resort. I also think the pool would be a hit with your 5 yr old. But, the icons at AsM would be a hit, too. The value resorts are a little more noisy and depending on which room you get, it may be a long walk to food court or bus stops.

That reminds me, another thing I like about the non-value resorts is the benches at the bus stops. If the busses happen to be running a long time between, I'd rather sit and wait than tire out my legs before I hit the parks! It may seem silly, but that's just how I feel. We are staying at Pop Century this time, and I dread the line withno benches while waiting for the bus.

I'm sure you will have a wonderful time no matter which resort you choose...after all, you are staying at Disney! Good Luck!

I have stayed in movies and POR. I found POR to be too spread out. I bought a mug but rarely refilled it as I did not want to walk all the way to the dining area after a full day at the parks. Pretty yes but not too impressive for a 5 year old(I have 3 and 6 year olds). The movies the kids loved and the food court was much closer but it was kinda cheesy. If you stay there bring your own soap unless you want to feel like you are doing dishes in the shower. I would try POFQ.

:wave2: My vote goes to POFQ. I love it because it's so intimate and you don't have to walk forever to get to the bus stop...or to your room after a long day from the parks with a sleeping child.

Thank you for all the input! I will call my TA today and find out prices for POFQ. I know it is closes right now but does anyone know exactly what they are doing to it? Are all the rooms being updated?

I think the rehab is pretty much done as it is set to reopen next month. :)
