Hello everyone! I've been looking for somewhere I can start a journal because I'm trying to lose weight.
I currently weigh 223lbs. I want to lose 100 of that.
My dog currently weighs 9.6lbs. He needs to lose 1.6 of that. I apologize if that seems silly, but almost two pounds on a little dog is a lot of extra weight.

I don't exercise much, which I know is a big problem. This month I'm shooting for 500 minutes. I know I can do it, I've done it before. It's really just a matter of motivation, and making sure I get enough sleep so that exercising is possible.

I have a problem of eating when I'm bored: and I'm always bored. I think giving myself more to do during the day when I'm not at work will help tremendously with that. When I work for a few straight days, I'll go most of the day without eating (until I nearly pass out from my sugar dropping). I need to find a balance between overeating and undereating.

So, I guess I'll see how I do.

You can definitely do this Ash! I really wish you the very best of luck!!! :goodvibes

OK...the first key is to find exercise that you actually enjoy. That is SOOO important. Because if you don't like it, you won't stick with it! What type of exercise plan do you have in mind? There are so many ways to burn calories and that is the key to a healthy lifestyle. Now that the weather is nice here in Jersey :sunny: we can start spending more time with outdoor activities which is always preferable!

You probably have a plan in mind. But I think it's a great idea to maybe look at all your options and see if you can figure out the one activity that is going to make you feel better and that you enjoy! What are you thinking of in terms of exercise? If you can incorporate a mix of cardio and strength training you will see results faster. Strength training does NOT have to be just weight lifting (as most people think)...yoga and pilates both count and are a wonderful way to attain those goals.

500 minutes of exercise is a GREAT start! :thumbsup2 I think it's an attainable goal and you'll feel so awesome when you see the month of June completed and your 500 minutes up there on your siggy!

Good luck!!!!

Yeah, the weather is awesome. It's raining now (I lovelovelove rain), but it's dark so I can't go for a walk. :(
Well, for exercise I was thinking mostly walking. I like walking. Back in high school (I didn't ever really show up for high school) I used to spend whole days walking to different places and stores and such. My doggie likes to walk as well.
Dunno about strength stuffs. I've got a bad back, I don't want to mess it up anymore than it is already.

Hi Ash...

The best thing you can do for a bad back is strengthen your abdominal muscles! You have to be careful of course, that you don't do anything twisting that will impact your back, but aside from that working on abdominal strength will only help your back :). Trust me on this! I came out of HS with a bad back and I've improved greatly over the years by building my core muscles (abs, obliques and back muscles). Just advice...but I really think that it will help you in the long run. Also...any type of light arm work will also be beneficial. Strength training is wonderful b/c your muscles continue to burn calories for hours after strength training :thumbsup2 . LOVE that ;).

Anyway...yes..it's pouring here in northern NJ. And I'm with ya! I love the rain! So no walks probably for a day or two. But walking is a great way to burn calories and get fresh air :). Keep track of your miles and see if you can go a little tiny bit further each day you are out there.

Good luck!!! :)

Hey cool, I didn't know that about the abs muscles helping back problems :)
Today I walked for 30mins. Then my dog called it quits and insisted we go home. haha.

I walked for 60mins this morning. I was bringing my dog to the vet.
I haven't been doing so hot with my eating, but I'm trying.
And, there was this customer at work, and his shirt said something about sword fighting, I told him his shirt was awesome, and that last time I tried sword fighting (when I was working faire) I got beat pretty badly. He said he teaches martial arts sword fighting, called Kendo. I go to my first class on Tuesday! :)
As always, I'm concerned about hurting my back, but martial arts is something I've always wanted to try, and I'd so love to learn to sword fight. I've wanted to learn for a long time, never found anywhere and now on random chance I find a teacher. So cool!

That is awesome. I hope you love your new class. Just keep with it, and the weight will drop off. I suggest that you break your larger goal into smaller ones to keep you motivated. I also wanted to lose around 100 pounds, and I have shed 11 so far with daily cardio and being mindful of everything that goes into my mouth. Your body needs so many calories a day just to survive. If we don't give that to our body, it will go into starvation mode, and it will be harder to lose the weight. I used to be bad about not eating all day, and then stuffing myself at dinner. I now try to eat three good meals and two snacks a day. Good luck.

I have broken it into smaller goals. :)
100 pounds is my eventual goal.
My first one is to lose 25 pounds. I picked 25lbs since it's not a huge number, but is definetly significant. Also, when I lose 25lbs I'm going to sorta reward myself by getting fitted for a new corset. I told my best friend that and she already called dibs on the corset I have now. hehe. Fun.
Yeah. I can't wait to start classes! I really think it will be so much fun, and the teacher is so nice. Even though he was out shopping and I was at work he answered a bunch of my silly questions, exchanged numbers and gave me his card. Really a cool guy.
Leslie: I'm sometimes bad with not eating all day, but lately I've been better and have been eating somewhat normally. My biggest weakness right now is icepops. I love icepops. They are so good! Yum!!! I got the sugar free ones now, so at least its only 10cals in an ice pop. ;)
But icepops are the bestest.... yummmyyy.
It's funny, whenever I'm in Disney I spend so much money just on icecream and icepops. They're so good, but kinda expensive in the parks.
