Ashley & Mike's SOG Wedding -06/25/09 - We're moving! And Randy pics are up!

:goodvibesYa know, someone probably bought that dress for a wedding and only wore it once before they sold it to the thrift store. I bet it is practically brand new, so I say do it, it looks really pretty and if your little sister is happy then all is good! I love the pic of the dress, what a great find your mom had! Also, how old is your sister?? The reason I ask is becuase the longer length might work well if she is still a teen ya know? It may make her look a little more "covered up" lol (I teach teens dance and I am constantly shocked at what they wear... my folks would never have let me out of the house in some of the super short mini skirts they wear now!! (LOL, sorry off topic)
My MOH's tried on the dress you picked for the BM's at Davids as well. It looked great on the girl that was a size 2, but my other MOH who is not a size 2 was very self-consious and didn't really like it, so keep that in mind too if your sister is not comfortable in the Davids dress.
So I vote Thrift Store Dress, it's sooo pretty Ashley! A+ to your mom!:goodvibes

Umm yeah, I totally agree with you about kids wearing stuff they should not be wearing. My mom would have let me have it if I came out wearing some of the stuff that I see out there. My sister isn't that much younger (22) but she is tall and shaped differently than the other BM's. But I think you really can't go wrong with a $10 dress and she looks nice in it. I think I am just stressing out for no reason.

My mom is the queen of the Thrift Store. She came home a couple of months ago with a pair of UGG boots that she paid $5 for! I don't know how she does it but she has an eye for good stuff! She Rocks! :cool1:

I know right! The stuff I see kids wearing is ridiculous!!! I was out with my mom the other day and made a comment about what a 16 year old was wearing and she just looked at me and said "Wow, your old now!" :rotfl2: I just about died laughing!

The dress is awesome, your mom rocks for finding such great deals! Uggs for $5! I paid $60 for mine on Ebay and thought that was a steal! If your mom ever wants to take me shopping I will gladly make the trip:lmao:!

wow uggs for $5!! thats like £3 in english pounds! I want to go shopping with your mum!!

I like that dress, i would buy it, i would wear it. Most importantly, if she likes it and YOU like it, then you dont need to worry hun!

Its just great that you can find buys like that dress that really helps keep down the overall price of wedding- especially when some bm's dresses can cost $$$'s!

I personally love the dress. I would definitely use that MOH dress for sure!

Thanks. I think it's cute too. I just wasn't sure but I'm going to use it.

I am starting to feel old too! :rotfl2: I say things from time to time and it makes me think that I'm becoming my mother. :goodvibes But with her shopping talents that may not necessarily be a bad thing.

My mom has definitely got some shopping skill. I call her the Thrift Store Queen. I think it's really cute and your right about keeping costs down. This economy is so crazy that you never know what is going to happen.

Thanks ladies for the advice!

Yay! I have made some decisions and I bought a couple of things! Two more things checked off of the list! :thumbsup2

My garter

I got it at Davids Bridal. It's one of the few surprises that I still have for DF as I am really bad with keeping secrets.

My shoes!

So I found my shoes from DisBride Toni and I absolutely love them! I was looking at her Wedding TR and I fell in love. It's soo crazy trying to find the perfect shoes and they are litterally sitting right in front of you... on the disboards! :rotfl: Thanks again Toni!

Hi Ashley, it looks like everything's falling into place for you!! Have you decided how/if you are going to decorate the Gazebo yet?

Hi ashley....I just found your TR and it sounds great. Do you live in Baltimore? You were talking about the Harbor and McCormick and Schmits and It sounded awefuly Baltimore-ish to me. I live in Baltimore.

Your wedding sounds great! I can not wait to hear more about it!

Hey Ashley

Congrats on getting a PJ started!! I feel like such a slack for having taken so long to get over here. Here are my thoughts - in one big lump!!!! :rotfl:

Our Engagement...

It was my birthday weekend last November. I turned 23. Didn't really think anything special of it. But boy was I in for a surprise. So it started off at the Marine Corps Ball on Friday November 7th. It was so much fun! I made a big deal about getting all dressed up and I work at a spa so I got my hair and makeup done there! So we went to the ball and had a great dinner I met some of DF's fellow marines and spent the night in Quantico, VA. (That's where he is currently based.)

n1016493163_202169_5363.jpg

So after the ball, DF told me that we were going out to dinner for my birthday and that I should pick a restaurant. So it was picked and then of course the day of the weather was cold and we were going to the harbor so I did what any girl would do... I complained. I told him that I didn't want to go and that it was cold and we could go another time. Well he wasn't having it and we went. :rotfl: So we got there and we ate a McCormick and Schmick's. The food was really great but the service was terrible. And apparently when DF made the reservation he told them that he was going to propose afterwards and it was my birthday and the service was still terrible. Shame on them. :sad2: So DF told me that we had to go to the water to open my gifts. I told him we could open them in the car but he insisted. I again complained because it was FREEZING and I was wearing my little black dress and opened toed shoes and it was FREEZING! So again he said we were going to the harbor and we went. At this point I was a little frustrated because it was cold but I went. We walked down to the place where we had our like 3rd or 4th date. I completely forgot about it until we got there and I thought it looked familiar.

Down at the harbor he had 3 boxes. Each box was labeled past, present, and future. So when I saw this I got excited but last time I got excited about a ring I get a necklace instead. So I tried to be calm.

So the first card said in this box are hearts with our past memories on them. So I opened the box and there were these:

Photo183.jpg

There was a memory of our past two and half years together on each heart. There were 23 of them because of my 23rd birthday. A couple of the things were the scene from the movie during our first kiss, our first date when we went white water rafting, and our first trip to disney when everything was not very magical. :rotfl2:

The second card said present and the note said something like, “In this box is your actual birthday present happy birthday!” There were some candies and a couple books. It was very cute. One of the books was mad-libs of love. Which was really cute because I hadn't done those since I was little. At this point I look up at him and he had a tear roll down his cheek and I was like “hey man you o.k.?” And he just nodded and said that he was really happy. So I went on to the next box.

The third box. The card was labeled future. At this point I peeked in the box just to see if there was a ring but there was nothing. And the card said, “In this box you will find blank hearts that we can create our future memories on.” So I opened the box to find blank hearts. So at this point I got up to thing DF for the best birthday ever and he was done on one knee. And then I just about lost it. He asked me to marry him and I just hugged him and was screaming a little and freakin out. And then he asked me if that meant yes. And I said yes. It was really really really sweet and romantic and AMAZING. At that point I was crying a little and I realized that I was cold so we went back to the car and began to call all of our friends and family!

So that's all for now. Thanks for sticking around for our long engagement story. It is definitely one of my favorite stories. More to come later tonight!

First off - what a good looking couple!! Secondly - your engagement story is so sweet. Sigh... I am a sucker for a sweet story :lovestruc Love it!!!

Our colors are navy blue and pink with silver accents.

Our rings:

My ring is an aquamarine. I have always wanted this stone. I love how it's a pale blue and how the color really pops against the diamonds on my wedding band. DF's is Tungsten with a diamond in the middle and the funky design on the sides.

I am also wearing the veil that is in the picture. Excuse my hair for being a hot mess! I wasn't planning on finding my dress that day! and my tiara believe or not I got it from walmart. I don't have a pic of it but I have a pic of my wearing it as I was pretending to be princess of my home. But apparently in Ashley's home princesses still have to do dishes.

BRIDESMAIDS DRESSES
We are having 1 MOH and 2 bridesmaid. Also we are having 2 Best Men and 2 groomsmen. I haven't found my sisters (MOH) dress.

THE BM's dresses are both going to be navy blue. Here is a pic:

HOPE TO ADD MORE TOMORROW!

I LOVE THE DRESS!! I think the hot mess goes for any of us - don't feel bad. The tiara rocks as well! And we have the same princess problem in my house - Princess Meg also has to do the dishes.

CAKE - BAKE ME A CAKE pastry shop and bakery. I found them on the knot and the guy there was so nice to me. Again without being able to go down for a tasting made it a little difficult but can you really go wrong with raspberry and chocolate gnache. We were having a really hard time finding a bi-racial cake topper and DF didn't want to go with Mickey and Minnie so we put a little something different.

These cakes were a little bit of inspiration:

0844_2058.jpg

I love the ribbons on the first one, the swirlies on the top of the second cake for our cake topper and the mickey swirls will be incorporated on the cake. Oh and there will be polka dots incorporated somehow. Polka dot is our safe word so if an argument gets to be to much or if we're goofing around and it gets to serious we say polka dot and that's what makes it stops. I know it sound really weird but that is just our word.

I told the bakery shop to have fun with it and make it look great. They told me that if something starts to not look right they will call and we can figure it out there. I think that I am the most excited about that! I love to eat!:lmao:

Polka dot!!! BRILLIANT!!

So basically, I love everything - I have nothing really of substance to add, because I think you're doing well on your own. I agree with Sam on the MOH dress. It was probably worn once and sent right off to the thrift store. It looks beautiful.

I'll be down at SOG in May - if you need any more pictures let me know and I'll get a few and send them off to you!!:goodvibes

Hi Ashley, it looks like everything's falling into place for you!! Have you decided how/if you are going to decorate the Gazebo yet?

Thanks Kel! I am so happy that things are finally starting to come together. Disney floral is going to decorate it with tulle and I am going to hang my Mickey Pomanders. I was originally going to do it all but I figured it would be one less thing to do and also if it rains and we get moved inside than i figure they can decorate inside as well. Also we are going to put rose petals on the ground and we are doing a sand ceremony so a table will be set-up too!

Hey Lisa! I actually talked to you before through e-mail! I finally started my PJ and it feels so good to get all of the ideas into written form! I live in Columbia which is about 20 minutes south of Baltimore. I work in a spa that has a location there so I like to go up all the time! Thanks for reading.

And Meg thanks for your big lump of comments! I am also a sucker for any type of sweet love story! :lovestruck Thanks for the offer to take some extra pics. I am bummed that I won't be able to go down before the wedding but I know it will be great! BTW! I hope you have a great time at Kelly's wedding and have a good birthday trip!

hey ashley -- you are too cute!! Love your PJ so far!!!
love the dress, the rings, the tiara, and everything in between -- you two will have an amazing wedding!

Ooh-rahh to you and your Marine!! Where will you guys end up being stationed afterwards? I have cousins in VA Beach and Camp Le Jeune in NC.

Thanks for your sweet comments!

We aren't to sure where we are going to be stationed. He is currently stationed in Quantico, VA which is like an hour south of Washington D.C., but he has been there for two years so it is very likely that he will get transfered soon! He wants to go to Okinawa, Japan.... I wouldn't mine Camp Le Jeune, NC because it's a little closer to home. :rotfl2:

Hey Ashley and Lisa,

I live in Baltimore too!

That is soooo great! And your having an SOG wedding like me! Yay!!! I don't get up there quite enough buy I think I am heading up there next weekend with DF! And during Baseball season I love to get up there for a friday night college night or a red sox game!

JUST WANTED TO LET YA KNOW......

MY DRESS IS A LITTLE... JUST A LITTLE TO BIG!!!!

I am sooooo excited! I am going to post picture probably later tomorrow because I couldn't get my camera to work last night! :cheer2: Yay!!!!!:cheer2: In the pics before that dress was a size bigger and it fit like a glove. :thumbsup2 And I was very excited but then when I got to David's Bridal to pick it up it was ordered in a size too small. :scared1:

So instead of making a big fuss I just decided that I was going to fit into it! And now it's just maybe a little too big! I am soooo excited!!!!! YaY!!!!

But I'm going to keep working out because I still have to buy a bathing suit for the HM...:scared1:.

I have lots of drama to tell you about but right now I am on cloud 9 :cloud9:, so I will just let y'all know later on today. YaY!! Go ME!
It's time to do the banana dance!
:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

So I have a couple things going on that are stressing me out and really any advice would be great.

So I was going to have a friend of mine who I work with fly down with me and do my hair and makeup because she does a great job, but she has stood me up the past two weeks and I know that I can't take that chance. I feel really bad because she has had a rough couple of months and I figured that if I paid her the same I was going to pay someone else she could use that toward a vacation. But I just can't really take that risk. I just feel bad bringing it up with her.

So on to the next thing which really is bothering me but not as much as it was. A couple of weeks ago my engagement ring went MISSING. :sad1: I have been really down and upset and it's been getting to me but I have been trying to stay upbeat because I didn't want DF to see me upset. He put it on his living room table with some other things of mine and when I went to pick it up it wasn't there. I am so relieved to have insurance but still it won't be the same. :sad2: But I am working with the insurance company this week to get everything taken care of so yeah that's that.

And last but definetly not least DF just found out that his best friend who was supposed to be one of his best men can't get off of work to come down. He works for the French embassy and his coworker took off our wedding week while he was on his mini-vacation. I think she planned it that way but that's just me. So I feel really bad because DF has done everything for me to have my wedding @ WDW and now his best friend can't make it. I was going to try to move the date but at this point it is a little to late. I just feel so horrible. I've talked to DF and he said that it's about us and he loves me. I just feel really lucky to have a DF that is soo understanding.

Sorry for such a depressing post. I guess things just happen sometimes. I'm not too down because after my dress was a little to big I got soo excited and it helped me get through all of the crappy stuff! Thanks for reading and any advice would be great.

Eeek! Tough situations! I don't have any advice, but I hope everything turns around for you!! I really hope you find your ring!!

Eeek! Tough situations! I don't have any advice, but I hope everything turns around for you!! I really hope you find your ring!!

Thanks, me too! I mean I know they will replace it but its just the sentimental value. I'm hoping for the best!

Hi there, I saw your post about wedding troubles and I wanted to lend my moral support! Turns out I actually have more to say than just that.

I think with your friend you just need to bring it up with her that you're worried about her and about her ability to keep up with everything she has commited to, and that you need to know what's going on and that you can trust her. It sucks, but this is not something to have hanging over your head.

With the engagement ring? Mine disappeared under "mysterious circumstances" just a little while after our first anniversary. It was horrible, but after getting it replaced, we are mostly okay with it, since it's this new ring that will hopefully become the family heirloom type thing. So yeah. I feel your pain and I am so sorry you are going through this!
