DD and a group of friends (age 12-13) begged me to take them to this concert at a really small venue near our house. I was surprised to get pretty good tickets just 6 hours before the concert. I guess the lip-synching was scaring people off.
Although the concert was incredibly LOUD, I was pleasantly surprised by her voice--she was actually best when she wasn't trying to scream to be heard over the ear-shattering music. She sat and did an acoustical set that was very good. She also covered some 80s songs--and should leave those to the originals.
She had 2 opening bands, one a really cute boy band all dressed in suits, and the other was Pepper's Ghost. They were a bit scary--the singer kept grabbing and cupping his crotch, and humping the stage--surprising, given the audience (almost 95% female, and young--except for the moms like me).
I was also suprised by how long they dragged it out. The concert started at 7, but Ashlee didn't take the stage until after 9, and only sang for about an hour. There were several periods when the stage was completely dark and empty--really kind of sapped the energy, although it rebounded when she took the stage.
I guess you could say I was pleasantly surprised, although I still have a loud ringing in my ears (I'd forgotten about that side affect, since my last concert attendance had been awhile).
