Need help from someone in Asheville. We are meeting a couple of fellow Diser's in Asheville this weekend that we will be cruising with in a couple of weeks. Our teens have become BFF's on the boards and really want to meet each other before the cruise. Two families live in East TN so decided we would meet for lunch in Asheville then do something for the afternoon.

Now to my question- I need recommendations on where to eat and what to do for a couple of hours. It will be 3 families- 3 teens (2 girls/1boy), one boy that is 10, and of course the parents. None of use really know a lot about the area. Won't really have time for Biltmore (I've been there a couple of times and like to spend the whole day :))

Suggestions?????

Let's see.....

No Biltmore....how about the NC Arboreteum? Great exhibits, a fantastic bonsai garden, lots of hiking trails and gardens.

Rafting on the French Broad River.....the river is running really well for rafting, kayaking and tubing and there are lots of companies around town.

South of Asheville in Chimney Rock you can visit Chimney Rock Park...go to the top for amazing views and hike the trails.

The Blue Ridge Parkway runs through town. Head on over to the Folk Art Center and also the Destination Center for great exhibits and more hiking trails. There are pull of places all along the parkway to hike as well.

In Asheville there is the Health Adventure, Gem museum, Art museum and lots of great shopping.

Restaurants.....in town, one of our favorites is Doc Chey's Noodle House. Great food with reasonable prices. Tupelo Honey is also good, especially their Sweet Potato Pancakes. For Barbeque...head to North Asheville for Luella's or to the River District for 12 Bones.

I'll post more as I think of it.

I can't respond to activities, but I can recommend a good restaurant. It is the Apollo Flame Bistro, Exit 50, off I-40. The food is wonderful, and is served in huge portions; good service, and great prices! We eat there every year on the way to the beach, and on visits to Biltmore.

I'm looking at a to-go menu, and see that they are closed on Sundays.

On my to-do list is the Segway tour at the NC Arboretum. Don;t knwo what the age restrictions are for that, though.

I think it is 16, but it may be as low as 14. The Arboretum Segway tour is fantastic. An even better one though is the one offered at Biltmore. The one at Biltmore takes off the governor on the machine and you can go the full 12 mph. It is an AWESOME tour!!
