Ashamed of my ignorance...banking ?

Hi- 12 year member here with banking question. I know, I should be better at this but...I have Dec use year and just banked 90 points to 2012 (which begins Dec 2012 for me). I own 150 points which will get renewed Dec 2012. So my question is, if I take a last minute trip before Dec 2012 I know I can borrow my 2012 points but what about the 90 2011 points I just banked...I'm thinking they are unavailable now for any 2011 trip. Just trying to confirm...

So any trip before Dec 1 2012 I can use 150 points (borrowed from 2012 UY) Any trip after Dec 1 2012 I can use 240 from 2012 and borrow 150 more from 2013. Is that right? Thanks in advance for any insight.

You are correct. Those banked points can only be used for a trip that occurs between Dec 1, 2012 and Nov 30, 2013. You can borrow the 150 Dec 2012 points for a trip that occurs before Dec 1, 2012, and if doing a trip between Dec 1, 2012 and Nov 30, 2013, you can use the banked 2011 points, the 2012 points and borerow the Dec 2013 points.

I would call MS to confirm. I have the same Dec UY and I get confused too but last time I called I was told that the first to expire would automatically be used first

Once the Dec 2011 points are banked, there are no more points left in the Dec 2011 UY. So no points are available for current year points to book something before Dec 1, 2012. You can't unbank points. You can borrow the Dec 2012 points into the times before Dec 1, 2012. But if you cancel that trip, you cannot unborrow the points.

Very true, but only for points that are eligible for the period being booked. Points that have been banked to the next year cannot be "unbanked" and are therefore not eligible for a vacation in the current use year. So, even though they will potentially expire before the points from the next use year, they couldn't be used toward this specific reservation. The banked points would definitely be used first for any reservation the OP makes next year.
